1. I've never noticed fan noise on mine at home. I have to go out now but I'll check again later and post the result. I think the fact I haven't noticed it before gives you the feeling that it's quiet enough though. Frank.
2.
Either series or parallel is gonna be fine. 2 16 ohm in parallel would be fine too, as that would be 32 ohm, but not many people want to do that.
Just in case someone reads this in isolation and not to be a clever dick... but 2 16 ohm in parallel would be 8 ohm - not 32 ohm as stated. 2 16 ohm in series would be 32 ohm. Probably just a typo though. Frank.
3. No one notices the bass player until you stop playing. They then realise what the bass brings to music. What about the fountain pens then? Frank.
4. I had the same problem recently with my Streamer LX. I managed to download a pdf schematic drawing for the system but not for the PCB. If it's any help I can take a pic of my PCB in the hope that your encapsulated one is the same. Let me know if you want a pic and diagram. Frank.
5. That's a great idea. I'll have a good look later. Thanks. Frank.
6. Just a decent preamp will do your job.. Doesn't John East make something suitable? I have an active bass with active pickups but I'm not convinced that the extra complication and cost is worth it for the pickups. Frank.
7.
Your thoughts on the two set up's would be appreciated. I'm running a Genz Benz Streamliner 900 and mainly play clean, modern tones. Other's have suggested that the GB is very bassey, I was always under the impression that it was more clean n middy.
I've had a G1 Compact and a pair of G2 Midgets, all at the same time. Also had a GB Streamliner 900 then too. My first choice would be the Compact/Midget pairing. I liked the bottom end better. The pair of Midgets is less full sounding but still VERY loud, if you need high volumes. So yes, a pair of Midgets is excellent if you want a tiny rig but at a loss of tone for my taste. You might not agree with my preferences though. The Streamliner is a great amp and I do think it has a massive low end. I usually had the bass knob at 10.00 o'clock, maybe even 9 o'clock in some rooms, with the Compact. I rarely needed anything more than the Compact for most gigs. The pairing was just a luxury, but one I enjoyed. Frank.
8. I have a Korean Warwick LX4. It dates from 2012. These were built in Korea using German hardware and electrical parts. Does anyone know how much these sold for new? (I've owned a German LX4 and this one is on a par with that one, with the possible exception of the cost/value of the woods used.) Thanks for any help. Frank.
9. I don't know for sure but I imagine the TE cab will reach its limit before the Midget and you could be worse off for volume. Also, check that the impedence of the TE is suitable for your amp. Frank.
10.
Agree with all of the above re Ricks. Couldn't bond with my Hohner B2A headless due to the location of the neck strap button making it always seem a long stretch to the lower frets. The Steinberger brackety thing would probably have solved this but couldn't find one at the time. Shame as I quite liked the bass otherwise-played and sounded great etc.
I solved this on my Steinberger Sprit by making an extension arm from carbon fibre. It even folds away for putting the bass into its tiny case. Frank.
11.
The AG500 is a lovely head. I'm can't help thinking part of its charm is that it has a transformer in it. :-)
Over the years I would agree with this but the new SMPS units are catching up. I think you'd notice the difference. They now seem to be delivering the required power at high volume and with more bass-heavy tones. Mind you, I keeping my Thunderfunk as well as the Reidmar 750 for now. Frank.
12. I have one of these: https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Fender-Vintage-Hot-Rod-70s-Jazz-Bass-Candy-Apple-Red/18MU and I've gigged it 100% of the time since I got it. A good PJ is a very versatile bass. My American Standard Jaguar is also a PJ but with the option of switching on an active preamp. Both great instruments and I feel priveleged to own them. Frank.
13. I bought a Warwick preamp from Si. It was a perfect deal in every way- a fair price, very pleasant communications, quick, (and well packaged) delivery. And he comes across as a very nice chap too. Thanks Si. Frank.
14. Is that price from Mesa themselves? If it is, you could read the specs of the side of the transformer and try to buy a replacement from Farnell, RS or the like. (Input V, VA, output(s) V, VA etc. It's a toroidal transformer I think? I think it might be cheaper but certainly worth a try. Frank.
15.
EBS Reidmar for me, all day long!
I really like mine too. (Reidmar 750) These are strangely overlooked amps that rarely get a mention here, yet the performance and features are excellent. The price is also competitive, so why aren't these more popular? Frank.
16.
Quote from one of Alex's earlier posts on this thread: "We low pass filter one driver on the Two10 (and continue that with its bigger siblings)..." I take that to mean the 2 x 12" cab's.
It's only the 10" range. None of the 12" range have side-by-side drivers anyway. Frank.
17. I've been resisting buying a second one10 due to having three Barefaced cabs already. This isn't helping at all... Frank.
18. Very nice. And I think you'll find it louder and deeper than expected. Frank.
19.
I took the cover off and found the transformer was still hot three hours after I had turned it off ... and that the transformer seems to be leaking stuff
It does sound like the transformer then. If you could disconnect it and check the output voltage that would be better. (But only if you know how to do that safely.) You also need to find out what caused the problem in case you fry the new transformer. I hope you get it sorted. They are superb amps. Frank.
20. Just out of interest, how did you test it to come to the conclusion that the transformer is fooked? Frank.
21. That's beautiful. It won't be here too long. Frank.

I just bought a set of block fretboard markers from Mark. He's a top bloke. I think he might even have posted them before payment, so quick was the delivery. Thanks again Mark. Frank.
23. A Barefaced one10 and GK MB200 makes a fine, lightweight, small and giggable combo. (That's not ACTUALLY a combo. ) Frank.
24.
I have a jazz p j bass https://reverb.com/i...ed-rosewood-187
I have that bass too. I really like it. The P pickup is 20mm closer to the nut than an actual P bass and I wonder what difference it makes to the sound? The position issue plus the fact that it has a jazz-style blend circuit rather than switching, as on my USA Jaguar. I don't hear much, if any difference on a gig. Frank.
25.
Hi Frank , I have in the past fitted Glockenklang , Delano , Nordstrand etc pre amps , but always into Basses that are passive . Why not send EMG an email , stating what you have , and what you need . I have always found manufacturers very helpfull in these situations . All the best Pete
That's a great idea Pete. Your advice is much appreciated. Frank.
