There was a few things that drew me towards buying an ACG. Originally I just fancied something different than my usual (Warwicks) and ended up getting one second hand which I absolutely loved. It just seemed to fit me perfectly sonically and visually. There was however an issue with the bass that the seller (who I wont name publicly) and Alan contacted me and spent the best part of 2-3 days helping me with the issue and getting my money back. He wasn't obliged to do this by any means which is something I found rather exceptional. So customer service was already second to none (and I wasn't even technically a customer at this point!).
I'm just basing this on my ACG. Sound wise I haven't ever played a bass this versatile. The filter preamps do have a bit of a learning curve but if you put in the time and learn how to use it you will be able to get just about whatever sound you need.
All of the ACG's I've played seem to balance perfectly and seem very comfortable to play as far as the body shape goes. Generally I prefer smaller bodies basses (hence why I've had so many Warwicks in the past).
The body shapes aren't always to peoples tastes which is fair enough but that's an individual thing for each person.
and finally...
...they're gorgeous to look at.

, bought it cause of Jon Stockman, Karnivool's bassist who has the greatest bass sound ever for this genre. he plays a thumb though.

He also plays a Corvette.
I use Elixirs on my ACG but can't get them to fit on my other bass as they don't make them long enough. I like really fresh sounding strings (easy to take away noise than it is to add it in if required in my books.). Elixirs will last me the best part of 9+ months before I even really think about replacing them. Any other strings I've used however get to that stage within a few weeks/days depending on the brand. Rotosounds and Ernie Ball strings are too dull almost out of the packet for my liking.
I use one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/FastTrack-SOLO-Audio-Interface-Avid/dp/B00CBU7EII
Does the job and comes with a basic version of pro tools (although I use Reaper now).
If I was to buy a cheap interface just now though I'd go with one of the Focusrite Scarlett solos. They seem to get great reviews.
Just recently been informed that another band has pulled out last minute which means we get an hour long set but we can't really remember an hour of our music so come watch as I try and remember 15 minutes of the set!
An old old old basic recording of our first song (we're better now, honest) - https://soundcloud.com/goon-and-the-kings/dark-side
The guitarguitar in Glasgow has a huge selection of acoustics, some of them are bound be rather nice.
I would assume all the guitarguitar stores have similar selections.
I've never used one but if it's second hand and at a reasonable price then I say buy it. Try it. If it doesn't work out for you then shift it onto someone else
So my singist appears to have booked us in for a gig on the 17th of this month in a pub in Glasgow called Malones (Sauchiehall Street).
All money made from the gig goes to Great Ormond St hospital and it's cheap as chips to get in.
Figured it can't hurt to post it on here. Our first gig in a good while and we've barely rehearsed so come see how rusty we all are

it does make me wonder what his creative intentions might be in a band situation.

I'm fairly sure he is in a band. Think they're called "a word alive" or something like that.
Elliots vocals seem to be a bit marmite for some. Personally I think they're excellent for the music. Also looking forward to seeing them with Periphery/Veil of Maya
