There's something special about having a bass built exactly the way you wanted. It's one of the many things I love about my ACG. The fact I know it's one of a kind.
The wait is the hardest bit however!

I'd go for this from the custom shop...

as much as that disgusts me...I kind of want one.
I caught the local (to me) CC trying to shift a LTD 5 string for £180 but it had a previously snapped off headstock which was very very close to snapping off again.
They weren't impressed when I offered them £20 for it.
They paid £95 for it if I remember rightly.
Can't say for ABZ but it's not as thin as the AB1 neck although it's still a relatively thin neck. Very comfortable and doesn't feel like you're holding onto a big plank.
If you're anywhere near Glasgow/Lanarkshire at any point you're welcome to try mine.
When I get offered a bass in a trade for way less than I'm asking I just say no thanks. When I see an ad elsewhere that's above New price or just wildly unrealistic I sometimes send a polite message. More often than not they just didn't bother researching it.
I would go for it. As much as I love Warwick basses, the MEC preamps arent great (IMO). The East pre would only improve it. I can't see if really taking away any of the core tone either. Although I could be wrong. only one way to find out!

I haven't read the comments here as I can't find the arsedness but I'll respond to the original post.
I have what I would consider to be rather high end equipment (everything except a cab) and I don't think for a second that anybody but me cares what I'm using -despite being asked at almost every gig I play-. My reason for having them is just that I want to basically. I get more enjoyment from playing my ACG or Dingwall than I get from other basses but nobody really cares about that!
I have a lot of the gear and will be the first one to admit that I have no idea! I'm not a particularly great player in any aspect but I like it
Sir Dukes always a good option. Has groove and the unison part is fairly flashy. Although as far as 'impressing non-musicians' goes. Even the most basic of slap stuff seems to impress so many people.
