1. I second the comment about how well these compare to the Canadian models. I prefer my NG-2 to an AB1 I previously had. Looks great in the yellow too.
2.
In 35 years of gigging I have never once been asked by either the band or the audience where my Fender bass was.
I did once. I'm pretty sure I was playing a Warwick Thumb LTD 2006 at the time. The person may have been taking the Piss though. Hard to tell.
3.
Had a fair few high quality basses in my time. Filter preamps have their own thing going. I think you could get a reasonable facsimile of Wal pickups from, say, Armstrong? And afaik some people on this very forum have gone for wal-like ACGs
I've got one if the "Wal-like ACGs". The Multi-coils pickups on them are excellent. Mega responsive and can get a pretty damn close "Wal tone". Saying that it's not a one trick pony which I think people seem to think of Wals. Can't think of a musical setting where the ACG would be out of place.
4. Clayton does what suits the tunes which is what matters really. Just so happens I think the songs are garbage but it's irrelevant when talking about this.
5. Looks like the kind of thing that'd be pretty great in the right hands... ...the right hands being few and far between.
6. Out of those two I'd go for the J-type. Only real reason is I don't particularly like the Gallus shape.
7.
That was my only issue with the ones I tried. The tone just wasn't up my street. Everything else - playability, build - was exceptional.
I found this with the Canadian models I played (AN1 and Z3) but find the NG-2 is great tone-wise.
8. Not normally my style of bass but that's really nice. great job!
9.
The whole notation/tab thing has been done to death in other threads, but it's the attitude of wanting everything on a plate, this instant, that grates on me.
I get that and it is annoying. Half the time there is already a tab in the description I've noticed! You do get some people who are really rude about demanding a tab.
10. The thing I find annoying about it is that they are watching someone play it (generally with full view of the fretboard). YouTube now gives you the option of slowing down videos. As far as the final part of your rant. Some people don't have the time or desire to learn things by ear/read sheet music. Which is perfectly fine in my books. I personally don't use tabs but have nothing against people who do.
11. Change all my strings at the same time and only change when I really think I'll benefit from fresh strings. I use (on any non-Dingwall) Elixirs so don't really have to change that often.
12. I love playing most of my bands songs. As far as other bands music. Sir Duke by Steven Wonderful, Teras by Sylosis and any song by Maximum the Hormone.
13. The Warwick straplocks protrude quite a bit. certainly more than Schallers. Can't say about the dunlops though
14. Very nice. Part of me is wishing I got the black NG-2. The bright yellow clashes with the living room...
15. Having only played one Wal bass, I enjoyed it. The neck was a bit 'baseball bat' for my liking but sounded and felt nice otherwise.
16.
If it's a group I've never played with, or a jam I've not been to, I usually go with the safe/boring (delete as appropriate) option and take one of my Precision-style basses. I find it's good to get to know the lay of the land before turning up with the Thunderbird...or the 8-string!
Not an option I really have...one bright yellow bass and another coffee table one. One advantage of sticking with one band I suppose!
17. I had the same issue here. Ended up putting an add up saying I was looking for something a bit different and not just rehashing other people's music. Ended up getting quite lucky. Saying that. I did get a lot of "my mate and I are doing a blues rock cover band".
18. Upon further playing of these strings I have one negative to say about them. The Low B string is dead. I know the string isn't going to stay fresh forever but it currently sounds like a flatwound. The rest of the strings are still going strong however. Rather disappointed with the B string.
19.
If both fit well, and don`t sound drastically different to each other, use one for rehearsals/home use, and save the other for gigs. That way the strings on the gigger will last longer.
Both do sound drastically different but both work very well. Should have said that originally. The strings on the Dingwall will always die quicker sadly since Elixirs won't fit! Good idea though Lozz
20. I agree with you in the filter preamp comments. There's so much you can do with them once you figure out how the hell they work! Good buy
21. ...to take to gigs or rehearsals? Basically I have two great basses, both of which suit my bands music very well and both feel great to play. But I struggle deciding which one to take to rehearsals.
22. Also never realised it was out. Shall give a listen over the weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed the first one.
23.
I'm actually looking forward to playing just for the fun of it without anything else expected.
This is how it should always start as far as I'm concerned. Have a good'un!

25.
Don't get hung up about mistakes - they are fleeting moments in time - don't let them derail you. Be well rehearsed. Above all, enjoy yourself.
This. I can only think of one gig where I didn't make a "horrendous mistake" but nobody notices them but me. The last two words of the quoted post are the main two though.
