It's a good idea to have the terms and conditions come up, I've just had a re-read of them. The only suggestion would be a button you can click on to say you've read it, which will stop it coming up again for that particular forum.

Coloured ball ends are D'Addario strings They do a 5 string set of 50 - 135, and if you want bigger, you'll be pleased to know they do single string gauges from .018 up to .145! The best place I've found for them is [url="http://www.stringbusters.com"]http://www.stringbusters.com[/url] Don't forget to have a look at the 'Single Strings' section down the left hand side!

I use exactly the same tuning in my cover band! I've had pretty good results using 45 65 85 105, but with stainless steel hexagonal cored strings so they feel stiffer. Brands that I know of that use hex cores are D'Addario, Elites, and Elixirs. EDIT: Oh, and I just remembered Newtone Strings! They use hex cores too, and you can ask them to custom make you a set if you do want to go heavier than a .110

I should be allowed to join for using nice, expensive and clean Markbass amps... but running cheap Peaveys and multiple dirt pedals through them

I think they sound a bit cold and sterile. You can't beat the tone of a nice bit of wood.

I'm actually inclined to agree with the luthier. We all know about Fender's less than perfect QC.. And I have a neck on my first ever Peavey with a knot that looks very similar to this one around the 17th fret... Which is exactly where the frets begin to buzz! It was my uncle who pointed it out to me, who happens to have been playing bass for the last 40 odd years, AND is an extremely talented carpenter, so knows his way around a plank of wood! The issue could well be sorted with a fret dress and nothing more though! And with a bit of luck there will be no more drying out / moving by the wood,

Some of it is the tone. To get a bass tone to cut through you often have to put in a lot of high mids, which makemost players sound sloppy. I remember recording some bass for a melodic death metal band I was in. I thought I did a really great job til I heard the track back! Sounded dead good in the mix though! I don't see these isolated tracks as a bad thing, as long as you're not blindly assuming "this is sh*t". It makes me feel better about my own playing though!

If you only want 2 or 3 effects and a tuner, I would recommend single pedals. Much simpler, and as good as multis are these days, you are likely to find seperate pedals that do what you want to a bit better.

Hooray! A bassist who doesn't want that "all treble and nothing else on a jazz bridge pickup" slap tone. I HATE that so much! All good stuff here! I'm sure you've tried this already, but it hasn't been mentioned in the thread.. But when I mess around with slap bass, my thumb hits the strings somewhere between the fretboard and the neck pickup. Believe it or not, I've seen people slap right over the bridge pickup before!
