I keep the EQ more or less flat on mine, and use the VLE/VPF filters to shape the sound. Before i had outboard effects and stuff I used to turn the VPF up past halfway to scoop out a lot of the sometimes unpleasant honky mids, and then turn the VLE up to about 9 o clock so that the attack and high end arent overly aggressive.

Mine's 4mm between the fret and the string Maybe I play with more force than I thought! It seems on the low side to me... EDIT: Thats on my 4... On my 5 string the B string is about 6mm and on my 6 string my low A is about 8mm ...Maybe I should give em a bit of a setup

Cheers Stevie! I do pretty much pack stuff with whatever I can find... If I'm lucky there'll be some bubble wrap, but it's usually boxes from Lush with that nice girly soapy smell and multicoloured polystyrene 'wotsits', and wrapped in Christmas paper with a bunch of sellotape! I'm a friendly guy most of the time but not THAT friendly

The cabs are definitely more 'middy' than any others I've tried. With some basses it can have an unpleasant effect but in the mix it always works nicely. Still, I prefer to use a little VPF filter to smooth out the offending frequencies and I always like the sound before adding pedals to the mix. BTW the piezo tweeters in the combos are different to the HF drivers in the standard series cabs. Many say they're fizzy and unmusical! I still turn mine to just above halfway anyways and it sounds great to me! I must say the sound of MB heads through Ampeg, Ashdown, or other more organic sounding cabinets is much nicer (when soloed). But in a band mix that lush sound nearly always vanishes

I like the sound of the string hitting the frets when I pluck hard. it's part of my sound, so I like a lower action so that I don't have to play every note with maximum strength! I don't have it THAT low though because otherwise I'd get choking and rubbish sustain... It's probably about 4mm

I usually turn up before the guitarists and I'm always the first to set up, so it's first dibs for me! I always stand to the right hand side of the drummer (far right of stage). No particular reason other than personal preference!

I actually use 50 - 110 on my 4 string and have never encountered any pain. I do however on my 5 string with lighter gauge strings because i haven't set it up properly! Most of the time you get more pain due to the action being too high, than using too heavy a gauge... Remember, on a properly setup bass you can achieve a much lower action with heavy gauge strings!

You should kick all their arses (or asses ) by makin an all maple bass with a maple fretboard
