1.
Time to resurrect this thread I guess! To all you wireless users, which do you think is better? Line 6 G50 or Stageclix Jack? Things I like about the Stageclix are that you can use the receiver as a battery charger which is super handy, and I'm thinking a jack would be easier than a pack... I cba with the cables and trying to attach it to my strap. The one thing putting me off is that my mate who has tried out both said that the stageclix was pretty plasticy, didnt feel that solid. Doesnt sound right seeing as the G50 is cheaper and made of metal right? cheers
The stageclix is made out of a super strong plastic, you won't break it. They made videos on YouTube with them running the transmitter and receiver over in a truck and then showed it still working! The jack is very handy especially if swapping basses over! And once you unplug it it sort of mutes itself so you don't have any unpleasant noises. I think the Line 6 offerings are bloody good and great value for money, but the added convenience and reliability of the Stageclix is what prompted me to wait til I could afford that instead
2.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned these Washburn/board B-20 monstrosities with their hideous triangular necks. Very horrible indeed!
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Buffalo Bill is modelling it
3.
Yeah man it's good to finally settle on something! Bonus that it's reasonably light weight too! To be honest, there's not much difference between the CL's and the HF's besides the style and the fact the HF's have an adjustable tweeter whereas the CL's are only adjustable in the sense you can turn the tweeter on an off... If your ever down my way (Essex) come give the rig a try! Russ.
Only just seen this reply when I came back to drool I'm still curious.. I do like the look of these cabs! How do they handle super low notes compared to the ported ones? And do they have that sealed cabinet sound to them? Or do they still do that cutting through with aggressive mids Markbass thing? oh... and are they anywhere near as efficient as the HFs??? I might need to make an excuse to travel to Essex some day
4. IME changing the pickups doesn't change the inherent sound of the bass that much, it just emphasises different elements of its sound. When i swapped to passive Basslines in my Peavey Grind, It sounded very similar but basically added more treble and the sound didnt feel quite so.... compressed
5.
the new Source Audio Hot Hand 3 can control any Expression enabled pedals :-P
Thanks, just when I'd convinced myself I was out of GAS...
6. I really like the chorus sounds on the B3, kick the pants off anything I've tried by EHX! I dont use synth much but they track pretty well, as does the octaver Drive models can sound good, but noticeably inferior to the pedals they're based on For the price you pay, just the above is more than enough for your money! I also use the gate on it which is easily good enough. And the tuner has replaced my Korg pitchblack
7.
Our keyboard player uses a Jackhammer for a Jon Lord-style, overdriven Hammond sound. It sounds amazing. Otherwise I would pinch it off him for myself.
Never heard one on keys but I bet it does just the trick! The pedals go pretty cheaply used, I got mine free! But you should expect to pay £20 - £30 for one normally
8.
I would do a couple of things.... with newish strings play the bass unplugged, how does it sound. stick your ear on the upper horn and play (careful, it will be loud) how does it sound.
This is good advice that often gets overlooked
9. As Dood mentioned breifly above, the Markbass F1 is very very loud! I dread to think how loud his GK is if it's even louder 500w should be more than enough. With the EQ flat and filter off it's very transparent. Cold and sterile if you like but it gives your sound a great starting point and it IS capable of a big round warm vintage tone (albiet a very clean one )
10. Yeah they've clearly tried ripping you off, it's not new. I would demand a partial refund, and/or or a replacement at their expense. And yes I would notify Hartke too, this sort of behaviour could give them a bad name and will surely piss them off!
11. Welcome Dacre! Looks like Gust0o has given you all the information you need there Good luck with the sale! And enjoy basschatting
12. Many different pickups will sound different to one another, its up to you to decide whether it's better or not as tone is subjective. Personally I think SD Basslines are very good value though they tend to have a bit of a mid scoop. Nordstrands are bloody great, nice and clear or aggressive if you go for their Big Singles... I almost got some last year... To be honest though I think you could get better value for your money. Wizards get a good rep...
13. Maple with black blocks gives me a happy feeling in my pants
14. The TTE doesn't have the VPF,and the EQ is only 3 band. The 'Colour' knob is like the VLE except it has a valve in it. Not really noticed a difference with it though myself. One thing the TTE does have is that its easily the sexiest looking thing Markbass have ever come out with! I prefer the Little Mark heads due to the versatility, and more convenient size.. But I can't stop gassing....
15.
Because he's popular.
This. His playing is groovy and fits the songs superbly. I think because he's popular people expect more flashiness or something? No idea... Then there's just the people who hate slap
16. I can rarely manage this, but as you've mentioned I also get issues if the melody is syncopated! As above I think practice is key... Also do you play with a pick or fingers? Playing with a pick can make this easier as you're not moving as many different body bits! Something to think about?
17. Without even looking at the obvious in the photo I found myself asking "Why sell a single, well used but in perfect order machinehead?"
18.
Here's an idea of some of the nice dirt I can get from my rig: https://www.box.com/...b0fc45215020362 (raw recording straight from the U5) https://www.box.com/...31be7b43d5b492f (with some compression and limiting added after the recording) I was going to record some clean fingerstyle and all sorts of other lovely things but I ran out of time so it's just metal for now \m/
Sounds really cool actually! I can see what you mean about it sounding a little 'fizzy', but that really works if done right! Have you tried cutting out the mids from the clean track and boosting them on the distorted one?
19. Sounds like you're onto a good thing there dude! Happy for ya By the way that B string sounds bloody immense!
20. That's really cool! Bet it feels nice too
21.
+1 for the Guys at PMT manchester-great service and they are always open for giving a bit of discount-always a pleasurable experience -even when I'm not buying.
Good to know there is a PMT store with good customer srervice Been to the Birmingham one for a look around, some great stuff! But didn't speak to any staff, anyone know what they're like?
22. I use a Gigman and they are proper solid, I can jump up and down on it and it won't even break a sweat! (Yes, I have actually tried this)
23.
barefacedbass.com/bgm-columns.htm
Cheers for that, theres some really interesting stuff on here!
24. I have a Peavey Grind down to A and it's great! I have a .152 gauge bottom string on it so that it has a more natural feeling to it, but you probably won't need it that big if you're not tuning down permanently... I know another guy who has his low A string at .135 gauge and he's happy with it!
25.
A couple of years before this happened, I was asked to join a band by a school friend - I turned him down (twice). This band went on to be hugely successful and influential and so far have recorded fifteen albums over 35 years. They influenced Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Primus, Faith No More, Foo Fighters and Napalm Death, among many others. They tour regularly, and have made a huge fortune. Dave Grohl occasionally sits in on drums with them.
I think I know which band you're on about y'know Bad times man! Thankfully I've never been in a band which hasn't fallen through
