1. Ace pedals these,. Just the VLE and VPF filters are more than worth the price tag!
2. I'm thinking of dropping the strings on my 4 string in Eb down from "50 70 90 110" to "45 65 85 105"... I just can't bend those thin strings without it hurting my fingertips! The only thing that's stopping me is that I drop the Eb down to C# a lot and don't want to be playing a rubber band half the time
3.
Bb – C – G – C – F – Bb
Wow that's a crazy tuning! So it's Drop C right? Is the bottom string an octave + 1 semitone below a standard B string?
4.
I bought a Jackhammer for use with guitar 7 or 8 years ago. Didn't really like it. After hearing it recommended as a bass pedal, I tried running my bass through it. Still couldn't get a sound I liked out of it. It may be that I've just got a duff one, but I start to get some really nasty (not in a good way) sounds out of any amp I put it through. I'd be interested to know what kinda settings other people are using.
I didn't like it on guitar either. Takes a fair bit of tweaking to get the right sound but there are lots of sounds in there. IMO it sounds best when used in conjunction with a Sansamp. At the moment I have it on the OD setting, gain at 10 o clock, with the EQ flat, contour at 12 o clock and freq at 1 o clock. Adds a great edge to my sound and helps the actual drive to cut through the mix In an older band I used it on the OD setting, but with the gain and treble cranked and a bit of a low mid cut. Sounded amazing! Pure face-rip! Wouldn't dare use those settings in a band with TWO guiarists though
5.
I'm not going to defend what some might consider poor technique. But there is some mileage in the belief that human idiosyncracies are what make musicians unique. Geddy's index finger trilling (listen to Animate, Caravan, or Time and Motion) and you will hear these kinds of idiosyncracies where sometimes a note will be more forcefully played. That's a consequence of how he plays, i don't know whether he works on fixing that and evening out his tone, but it doesn't bother me at all. it's part of the sound. Steve Harris' clanking is much the same.
Interesting and very good point! Listened to a lot of isolated bass tracks from Cliff Burton era Metallca and at first listen the bass sounds really sloppy and even the tone is not one many would use themselves. But in the mix the whole package sounds amazing!
6.
one thing that i don't understand about the VPF is that the scoop frequency is centred at 380Hz, which is more or less the frequency of the "Low Mid" control (360Hz). markbass owners: does cranking the VPF knob produce a dramatically different result than cutting the Low Mid and boosting the bass and high controls? i can't help but think that a parametric EQ would be much more useful like in the EQ42S Momark module.
With the filters, the more you turn them up the wider the range of effected frequencies will be. I think the VPF boosts bass and treble a bit too but don't quote me on that
7. Insanely heavy but worth it! Even the cabs on their own go for this price so this is a super bargain!
8.
wait 'til you start using three fingers (on the bass.. ) now that is a bitch to master.
Yep
9. I dunno, i haven't got there yet, I'm jus assuming its a practice thing, or a case of finding out a way around it and practicing that til it becomes second nature! And yeah with faster rock passages it isn't much fun playing with one finger! I actually have settings on my pedalboard to roll the upper frequencies off and make it sound smoother l!
10.
Think I'm gonna try a B3. Anyone thinking about selling?
Good luck dude, if I see one up for sale I'll point em in your direction! One thing to note, if you use it with other pedals on the same power supply, unless the output is isolated you'll probably get a lot of hiss.
11. I've got the same thing! Probably because I'm used to playing with the harsher style in my metal bands. If I'm ever playing 'proper' basslines I just use the index finger My way might not help you but it allows me to play softly to a reasonable standard without cramming in extra practice!
12.
i think that's a bit unfair. it assumes that everyone has a free choice as to where they live (which they don't) and also if a pub decides it wants to put on live music when they haven't before it leaves the local residents with a source of noise they may not have bargained for.
See your point buddy, but most of the time people who haven't been given the free choice will just be content with what they've got. And I can't speak for everyone, but I'd prefer the distant muffled sound of live music over generic pub noises any day (you know, loud voices all trying to talk over each other, and the 'pub laugh'). So if a nearby pub did decide to start booking bands it would be a welcome change
13. Man I really wish I had the funds for this, totally surprised its still here!
14.
hmmm, well kissing the sky ain't so easy!! (unless he really did sing 'kiss this guy', in which case; easier but by far less pleasant!!)
Heard a live version while he quite clearly sings "scuse me while I kiss that guy", so he might've!
15. I'm only 25, and not had any proper health issues really, but this year I started going back to the gym, eating a little more regularly and healthily, and making sure that I play. Music, or do stuff for myself a bit more often. There are more than just physical benefits to it as my mood is generally lots better, along with my self esteem.. and I even noticed a difference in my skin and hair, which is a pleasant surprise! Doesn't take more than a week or two to start noticing the positive effects either! All for something as simple as going to the gym or a run a couple of times a week, and being a teeny bit more selfish
16. I find for standard tuning, .050 - .110 is a bit too heavy, unless you like a very low action and don't want to bend your strings at all
17. The real issue is the idiots who choose to live near a pub or venue that has live bands, and then complain about it
18.
Jackhammers look really good! I found a thread where a bloke runs some pink noise through different pedals into a frequency analyser to get an idea of their EQ response with them set flat. Here's a Tech 21 BDDI: And here's a Jackhammer: Not half bad!
The curve of the Jackhammer explains a lot! It doesnt even need a clean blend to sound great and sit in the mix well. I use it with a Sansamp for ultimate anger
19. These amps are super cool, I wish they worked for me! Congrats!
20. If it only happens when fretting anywhere near the middle of the neck, ther might be too much relief (or curve). Try tightening the truss rod by a quarter turn at the most to straighten it a bit
21.
Holy s#%t! I didn't even know you could get a string that thick!
Warwick do a Dark Lord set designed for F# tuning with one of these bastards on!
22. I thought this was actually a thread about Geddy Lee's nose
