1.
Here's my current rig. The only thing I dislike about it is the sheer weight of that QSC power amp. The rack box weighs more than the cab and the bass combined!
Delicious! is the ENGL pre originally intended for guitar?
2.
My ampeg also bumps the low mids, or atleast i feel it does? So maybe look at a peg cab aswell?
Ampeg is ALL about the low mids!
3. I think pretty much anything is reasonably light compared to a Peavey cab Ashdown aren't light but they're not as bulky as Peavey, and still have a pretty nice warm sound. i like em anyways! They are pretty well priced too on the used market
4. Blimey do you really have your VLE up that high?
5.
It's not quite that simple. It all depends on how you connect the cabs to the head. If the cabs are connected in parallel - ie each cabs is plugged into each separate output of your Ashdown amp, then the ohm rating is halved - ie two 8 ohm cabs will result in a resistance of four ohms which is your ultimate goal to get the best out of your amp. However, if you connect in serial - ie the second cab plugged into the first cab which is plugged into the head - then you double the resistance, meaning two 8 ohm cabs will combine to make a 16 ohm load.
Never heard this before! Is that just with this particular head or what?
6. Bloody hell congratulations mate Don't forget to upload a picture of your new rig when it arrives so we have something to drool over!
7.
Ooh, and don't listen to what anyone says about putting pedals in a certain order. Experiment and you'll find out what works and what doesn't with the pedals you actually have, not what some other guy on the internet has!
Good advice! I occasionally get told I should put my compressor last in the chain but I prefer when it's the first pedal I go through. Trying other peoples suggestions can be a good idea to begin with though. Generally synths and octaves are closer to he bass end of the chain so that they can track a clearer signal and work better. And you usually put drive effects before stuff like phasers, delays, choruses etc etc, but again, there aren't really any rules!
8. IMO and IME, the only reason i can see myself wanting a big rig is because they look cool, and the cabs tend to be cheaper
9. If its obvious to a noob like me you're wasting your time
10. Actually, I've just remembered my 6 string Peavey with the passive Seymour Duncans.... That's got the most aggressive/middy attack, and the 3rd most trebley behind the Streamer and the Ray... Glad I'm not the only one who finds passives more aggressive
11. I have experienced this a lot of basses, but I think it's more down to the voicing of the preamp. I tried a MM Stingray 5, and an active Warwick Streamer 5 and the treble attack was actually way too much for me. The three passive basses I now own all have a nice punchy attack (more than all the actives I previously actually owned) but its more of a midrange attack than a trebley one. I found that MOSTLY active bases that I've tried have a bit of a mid scoop, whereas the passives have a slight treble cut... ...YMMV
12. I have a bass that I drop down from Eb to C# (don't have a hipshot though!) What I did is set it up for the drop C# tuning so that it's nice and low without rattling, and jus deal with it bein marginally less than perfect when in Eb. Doesn't make as much of a difference to the neck as I expected though!
13. My old Laney combo was pretty good but it's real strong point was that it came with celestion speakers in it, they really had it sounding mint! If these cabinets are anything close to that quality £200 is a bloody bargain aswell
14. My uncle used to use a hipshot on his B string on a Fender P Deluxe and loved it! I think it was through a Markbass CMD 102P. As far as in aware he played rock, pop, and jazz.
15.
are they? is that as much to do with the chinese monopoly on neyodinium (or whatever it's called) as anything else?
I dunno, Markbass stuff seems to have gone down in price a little since I bought mine, so I don't think it has a lot to do with it... but I remember all the anti fridge protests recently and now a lot of people seem to want all valve monstrosities again. Maybe they've all realised that sometimes the sound and relatively lower price are worth it!
16. This time last year big and heavy amps/cabs seemed very uncool but they're making a massive comeback!
17. Although one 4 ohm 4x10 will be louder than one 8 ohm 4x10... Not by as much as you think!
18.
If it has to be a combo (and I'm not sure it does), then you can't go far wrong with Trace Elliot. They get a hard time on here for reasons that I don't fully comprehend - but they are a lot of amp for the money.
As a member of the Trace Elliot hate club I can still admit they're mostly great amps... I just hate the tone I get from em
19. For anyone who's umm-Ing and ahh-Ing about this bass... Shines are criminally underrated pieces of equipment. They play comfortably, sound great, and this one most definitely looks the part! Looks like build quality has massively improved since I bought my Shine about 7 years ago! I expect this will be something of a massive bargain
20. Markbass super booster? It's got the VLE/VPF filters
21. Sansamps sound great clean, nice and warm and biiiig if you don't want the mid scoop try the VT Bass?
22. Lava cables are a bit cheaper most places I've seen, and they look like they save a few extra millimetres of space too!
23. Damn, I wish I hadnt sold my spare 6 stringer las year... Could have done with actually trying out a T-40!
24. I use a Sansamp followed by a Marshall Jackhammer. Jackhammer does not have a blend but amazingly it still sounds good from low gain (which I currently use) all the way up to heavily dirtorted trebley nastiness! The 2 and EQ and adjustable mid contour/scoop thingy are very useful and versatile too. Plus they're well priced used... I got mine free off a guitarist who thought it sucked (it kind of does on guitar!)
