1.
Though in the UK Peavey aren't that popular at the moment, I'll admit.
Except of course the T-40!
 2.
It was your Sig / waxing lyrical about Peavey Grind s that put me onto them in the first place
Awesome! Hope it's been a help
 3. These rock, mines's been on my pedalboard for well over a year now since I upgraded from the standard Sansamp. The only thing that's been on nearly as long as that is my Aguilar compressor! Well worth the money IMO : Sadowsky pre's are awesome too, i wouldn't own a jazz bass without one!
 4. Ashdown aren't light, but if I was in the market for something around your price range that's what I'd go for!
 5. Peavey Grinds are very good! The stock pickups sound fairly good recorded direct into a desk too, but the upgrade options are almost limitless with them being EMG shaped. Only thing to note is the necks are VERY thin, so while they're fast/easy to play they take some getting used to! I also would recommend a Shine. My first 6er was an active one of these and it was super comfortable to play. Again the pickups are EMG sized or jazz sized depending on what you go for so if you really feel the need to upgrade its easily done
 6.
some people don't live on the internet.
What?
 7.
Also, I suppose, if you include all the basses that are rip offs of the Fender design, that counts for about 90% of the market.
No it doesn't. It's a lot more
 8.
Spend £100 or so on a Sansamp and you'll be good to go for ages, they tend to make rough amps sound better and give a DI that will do you well into professional levels.
Couldn't agree more with this
 9. Welcome to the forum Joel! I'm sure your presence here will be greatly appreciated
 10. That's gonna be fun to play with!! Not so much fun to put together though
 11. Pink Floyd - Money you could probably improvise the other noises
 12. The Beatles - Come Together EDIT: dammit paul!
 13. man these heads are beautiful! If I had the money I'd buy it just to look cool onstage
 14. I tried a TC Classic head and a couple of RS210s and actually got a lot of clank, but it wasn't at a frequency that was pleasant sounding to my ears
 15. The two Peaveys, and the one Shine bass that I have owned over time (all pretty cheap IMO), have had great B strings! The only bass I ever owned which didn't was a German made "H&S" 6 string bass from eBay a few years ago. But to be fair the entire thing was so shoddily made it was near unplayable! Played them all with .130 gauge B's as well. The 35" scale Peavey Grind even sounded good dropped down to A, until I got a beefier string on there! Never liked those flimsy .125 gauges though...
IME good construction always trumps just adding another inch or two to the scale length.
Oh, and this! MM Bongos 'only' have a 34" scale... Says it all really!
 16.
Another attempt to say that it is us that are at fault, and not the amp? Maybe we're not clever enough to figure out how to use them? These Mark Bass likers must be more intelligent than me.
Not at all, it's definitely been easier for me to get a tone I liked much easier with a lot of cheaper amps that I've tried. Where Markbass stuff really shines is at gigging volumes, in a band mix though! ...If you know how to use it (Not taking the piss, honest! But the following is something that so so many players have not realised at first.. Including myself!)
There have been many, many posts (mainly on TB) over the years where people haven't figured out the two filters are off when turned all the way to the left. They sit down in the shop, put everything at 12 o'clock thinking that flat and wonder why it sounds strange.
I'm very surprised to hear you didn't get a tone you liked with your awesome USA Fenders! If you already used the filters correctly then Markbass amps really must not be your thing!
 17.
Anyway, Ibanez is a brand name, not a manufacturer. If you examine the brand and how Hoshino Gakki has operated since the 80s, the ideas for certain designs/models are conceived in-house but the majority are bought in (AFR/Affirma for example). The "by Ibanez" legend appears to have been adopted simply to assist customers recognising Hoshino products.
That's interesting, I always thought they were a manufacturing company like Fender for example. Something new every day!
 18.
Lots of guys come through with MarkBass and the DI out is fine however it's down to the individuals sound. I always find a compressor helps bass fit in the mix irrespective of how 'good' a DI out is..
I always have between one and four types of compression in my signal chain before it even gets to the amp
 19. If my amp sounded like ass I would definitely not have kept it for 3 years! I do love the sounds of Ampeg, Ashdown, Orange, and other weighty offerings... But when I've got an easier option which gives me more flexibility, reliability, and ease of transportation, to me, thats worth the extra dosh, and the accusation of being a bit of a sissy. Plus my main bass weighs 19lbs, which is more than double what most people would be willing to have on their shoulders for 2-3 hour sets!
 20. The DI's on them are brilliant. Sound engineers love them! I must admit, Markbass amps aren't the easiest to dial a good tone in with SOME basses. But they're the easiest to get a nice sound in the mix, and be able to cut through nicely with. If you're not opposed to a bit of twiddling you'll be in love!
 21.
You need to take lessons in squeezing things in .... huge gaps there. Check this for tightness.
Like a nun's anus
 22. yeah it's MOSTLY only their guitars that actually have a big Ibanez logo on for some reason
 23. I keep the EQ more or less flat on mine, and use the VLE/VPF filters to shape the sound. Before i had outboard effects and stuff I used to turn the VPF up past halfway to scoop out a lot of the sometimes unpleasant honky mids, and then turn the VLE up to about 9 o clock so that the attack and high end arent overly aggressive.
 24.
Thats exactly what the hearing specialist said it was.
Being in a band with two guitarists has been known to cause this too!
