1.
I'm fairly sure Shine are built in the same factory as Ibanez if that helps
I didn't know that!
2. Cheers Chris! The build is very good - it's comfortable to play, hangs nicely too
3. Hi all The time has come (the Walrus said) to sell my Shine Bass. I bought it 4 years ago for the princely sum of £300 (new), played with a band, band broke up, life got in the way etc etc. The ONLY marks on the guitar are some light scratches on the big black plate on the back - most likely caused by my jeans' button. These aren't all that visible and don't detract from the overall excellent condition that the guitar is in. If you were really that concerned, you could replace the plate. To be honest, I only notice the marks in a certain light at a certain angle. And unless you've got the lead guitarist writhing on the floor staring up at your crotch while you crank out some decent prog (because, after all, that's what you should be playing. Right?), no one else is even going to see them. The fretwork and chromework are in excellent condition. The neck is straight as a die and all of the wood is, I would say, in original condition. IE no marks, dents, scratches, scrapes or anything else. The switches and faders all work as they should. This item is pick up only and will be supplied with shoulder strap and in a guitar bag for ease of carrying. The bag's not wonderful, but it zips, has handles etc. It's a shame to be selling, but as I really don't play it anymore through lack of time, I'd rather someone else made use of it. Price. Ah, the golden question. Given the pretty much as new quality, I would like to get something in the order of £150 for it. via So, over to you! I can be reached by DM or email - [email protected]. Test playing is welcomed, of course!
4. Hi all Before I head over to Ebay, I thought that I'd see if any of you lot would like to purchase my Boss SYB3 Synth pedal? Checked it out today (after not using it for a while) - working perfectly. I simply don't use it any more... Comes with the box and instructions (helpful to avoid sounding like you're sitting on a duck). I would really like to get £50 for it - including delivery to your door... Can't say fairer than that... What do you reckon? Roll up, roll up and all that - don't see a huge number of these for sale... Cheers Neil
5. How do? I could well be interested in the Synth... Which bit of Sussex are you in out of interest? I live in Worthing / work in Shoreham... Cheers CFA
6.
Hi CFA I have a DVD of Michael Manring where he uses one and explains how it works and how he uses it. I'll bring it in for you to have a look.
Cracking - thanks!
7. An ebow with a bass or are the strings just too damn chunky?
8. My subscription renewal's come through, but I can't decide if I want to take it... Not sure if the mag is as 'packed' as under the previous editor, although I like the direction the new ed has taken it...
9. Out of interest, why are there so few synth pedals on the market (compared to others)? Is it because everyone hates them and only a few poor sods bought them, everyone loves them and refuses to part with them or they break? A, B or C? Make your choices now!
10.
The band I am in are looking to get some proper photos done for promotion purposes. We want to pay for a proper job, not just some mate who is going to stick us in a field under a tree. We want a professional job. Anyone recommend anyone or used someone good? We are based in and around Surrey, Berkshire, London but don't mind travelling a bit. Thanks for any help.
Guy I used to work with is a great photographer and working professionally for all sorts of people. His name's Dave Flindall - google him and he pops up a lot! www.delarge.co.uk or www.juxprose.co.uk
11. I'm up for a string change on the Shine and Aston (Electro-Acoustic) now. The Shine has got some random nylon wound black things currently (great sound but never want to play them again) and the Ashton has standard bronze acoustics on. I've normally run Rotosound as I quite like them, in the heaviest gauges that I can get. But I'm up for a change (although don't like Ernie Balls) so thought I'd see what you lot thought. Not sure where the band situation is going at the moment, but it could be anywhere between Sigur Ros style and full on rock. I'm seriously considering a bass synth pedal too, as well as a bit of distortion and, although self taught, am getting worryingly into chord type structures... So that's where I am/am going. What makes do you guys like and why? What would you recommend?
12. After a few months of joyful ownership, I'm selling the Zoom on the bay... It's in good nick, works perfectly. I bought it to assess what effects I wanted and now I know, I haven't got any need for the others (plus I want some high quality separate pedals). So, if you'd like a look (and hopefully a bid,) - Clicky click I'm fairly sure that bythesea can also vouch for its marvellousness!
13.
the strings are anchored at the bridge, the bridge is attached to the soundboard (upper face). The vibration of the strings is therefore transferred through the bridge to the soundboard which is where most of the sound comes from. The soundhole is so the vibrating air inside the body can help transfer energy to the outside. When you're using a pickup, the amplified sound gets into the bass via the soundhole and causes the soundboard to vibrate and this is picked up by the pickup and subsequently fed back round the amplification loop. A soundhole cover cuts down on the sound getting back into the bass. It also makes the bass acoustically quieter, but your using the pickup anyway.
Cool! That's an explanation that makes my brain happy!
14.
Sax is fine, ta .. Not had a gig to play yet but it's fine at home Round hole plugs are relatively easy to get http://www.gjsguitars.com/index.jsp?searchStr=AA0616+
So, without sounding truly dense... How does the vibration from the strings get into the body then?
