Metal generally requires fast, tight playing, and an aggressive sound. Noodly fret masturbation is optional!
-
I bet that was a pretty cool looking Squier once upon a time

Awaiting a response from the Stageclix technical team at the moment... In the meantime I tried using it at rehearsal. Still hissed but while using the noise gate on my B3 it wasn't as noticeable... Going to see what happens on a pub gig this Saturday!
One problem I do have is that I also set up the PA, lights, and baby sit the others, especially the g*****t.
I must be the only bassist ever who manages to get out of doing that crap
Sorry chrismuzz, you can't enter yourself unless you're famous (or I'd have my name here too ) & I hope you've got a beer mat under your pint! I should have called it "Your least fave bassist", but me being me...
I'm on YouTube, of course I'm famous And erm... nope, no beer mat
Yes, I can relate to a lot of this ... I have my VLE filters totally anti clockwise. The boomyness is at high volumes. Perhaps I need to roll a little tone off my Jazz and the Tech21 graphic is very sensitive although I have it pretty midish. I think I need to get my gear to a rehearsal studio and go back to basics a little bit.
I found the Sansamp gives a Low + High boost even with a flat EQ. Either way, you might benefit from simply turning the lows on your sa450 down a tiny bit when you turn your amp up loud. I do that with my F1!
-
maybe try playing with the filters? the filers are basically a low pass filter and the other is a mid scoop with bass and high boost! after getting an lm tube i remember how much i love then in use together actually sounds amazing!
Yep don't know what i'd do without them! I always have the VLE at about 8:00 - 9:00 and the VPF on about 10:00 - 11:00
-
The Sansamp compresses your sound slightly anyway, as will using any kind of overdrive/distortion. When you say you're running the filters flat, are they turned all the way anticlockwise, or are they in the middle? With those, anticlockwise is actually turning the filters completely off. The thing about losing the tightness of your sound at (I'm assuming) higher volumes is quite common with a lot of rigs. When I have my amp quiet at home it sounds thin, nasal, very brittle. And when I turn it up to gigging volumes it really pukes out the low end like nobody's business. Maybe try turning the Lows down a smidgen and see if it makes a difference
Ah, g'wan! You will, you will.
Can I nominate myself then? I at least have a clip It only takes me 18 seconds into a set to make bass players everywhere cringe EDIT: How many of you are writhing in anger at the pint sat on top of my nice expensive rig???

I dunno a lot of these so-called terrible players are pretty damn good really, regardless of the simplicity of some of their lines. The guy from Korn may have a ridiculously scooped tone, but it suits the band and he can really groove! Mike Dirnt is a great player, really dig his tone too! I don't really like A7X but I cover a lot of their stuff live and the bass lines are really fun to play! Rob Trujillio is a great player, he's toned it down a lot for Metallica! I can't think of anyone I actually hate.... there are a lot of metal bassists who I find pretty boring but I wouldn't say they were terrible. I personally know some atrocious players but it's not really very nice to post about them on a public forum is it I'm pretty sh*t though

I totally do that face too

Any difference between two 4x10's vs. 8x10?
chrismuzz replied to ashevans09's topic in Amps and Cabs
dnt fancy a 610 then chris do yah? ;-) andy
I've actually borrowed an Ampeg 6x10 before. While it's an awesome cab, it just didnt hit the spot like my Markbass 4x10. Sorry dude! -

Two 4x10s will usually have a few extra inches of height too! When I finally have my dream 2x10 + 4x10 rig it will be a bit taller than most 8x10s (partly due to the front porting) -
Thanks man! It was just bugging me really I wondered why I wasn't just getting 250w from using 1 cab and thought it was either an estimation, or measured by the total output or some crap like that. With my setup I think two heads would be complete overkill unless I was running 1 clean and 1 effected... But why do that when practically all of my effects have a clean blend?
-
Just thinking to myself this morning and it made me wonder..... I have a 500w head with a minimum load of 4 ohms. If I run it through a single 8 ohm cab I am getting 300w.... So... Even though if I was to use one 4 ohm head I would have 500w..... Does this mean running two 8 ohm cabs would be THE EQUIVALENT of a 600w rig? (told you it was a stupid one )

This reminds me of a review someone wrote for a Malacite show where they said something like "... With new bassist [chrismuzz] right in the pocket throughout." Does that mean my solos were tight as a nun's chuff, or boring as f***? ...
If I get compliments at all it'll be for "solid" bass playing, and of course there's a voice in the back of my head going "They mean DULL, you moron". Even so, I usually manage "thank you, glad you enjoyed it, it helps to have a great audience" etc. Then I go home and beat myself with birch twigs.
-
It always makes me smile, and i generally follow it up by saying thanks, and thanks for coming I try to resist the urge to follow it up with something like"'oh and thanks for not mentioning me screwing up about 6 times during the set!" If its a fellow musician/bassist I might start talking about my gear or sound etc, and cross my fingers that they'll let me without getting too bored

Never played a Wal, Dingwall, Rickenbacker or a Bongo. There are loads of other specific ones that I could spend all night naming but I've pretty much played most 'standard' types or brands that you can buy in a shop. Never played a custom/luthier built jobby either.
-
The boss ones are l, as above, industry standard and I've heard a massive amount of guitarists and bassists using them live with great results! Zoom B3 is definitely worth a look too, I use mine live! Distortions arent all great but you can get better sounds out of it than the boss ones. Everything else is definitely usable (except that f***ing Bomber effect )

Jus strung my 5er up with Warwick Reds to see what they were like... Actually really like em! They seem to have more depth than Elites. Obviously I can't speak for how long they last yet but at that price I can't grumble
Would that not be cleaned up by changing channels? (if it has them I've never used one)
Actually this thing has 12 channels! I never knew that until I bought it. But alas,no luck I'm currently exchanging emails with Andres on their support team, sent him a sample of the noise etc so hopefully we can get to the bottom of it.
I've even been a proper lazy arse and thrown the transmitter behind the control plate on the Peev and put a 3.5 jack in for recharge. I'm starting to enjoy "that bloke's miming!"
Haha brilliant
