1. Thanks for the heads up casapete!
2.
I've tried a few Markbass but my worry is that the sound of them at low volume is lost at higher volumes.
Actually I've found that my Markbass rig sounds a lot different at higher volumes. You really get the full benefit of those earth shaking lows when you crank it, but you don't lose any of that clarity! The settings I normally have tend to sound a bit thin at low levels..
3. Hey Zoe! A fellow Northamptionian here! I really miss the place... I'm doing a Jubilee gig on Monday as well, in Newcastle under Lyme though... Somehow metal doesn't seem wholly appropriate, but hey a gig's a gig
4. I can't add anything to this that silddx hasn't already totally nailed. And even though I enjoy a bit of a 6 string fap-fest, I know when it is and isn't appropriate. However the guy should have told you he was going to re-record the parts first in my opinion. Other than that I don't see what he's done wrong if it's his music. If you want to play more technical and interesting parts why not try getting a prog band on the go... people are always looking for bassists who do more than root notes, you've just gotta find em!
5. When i first got my Markbass F1 I was in a death metal band, I used this with no pedals and it was never lacking. It's super super clean and quick with a tiny high mid bump. Sounds more aggressive than most dirty amps I've tried! dood was selling one for £300 earlier, don't know if its still available but I highly recommend it! EDIT: Just remembered being at rehearsal last night with the amp on about 10 o clock, and I had to turn the Bass knob down because i had SO much beef my feet were vibrating and I couldnt stand up properly
6.
I think the main kind of.. identity battle in this whole argument for is this:
Great post! There's also the bit about bass being less of a glory/attention seeking instrument I quite like only being in the spotlight when I want to be, and just basically hanging back and contributing to AND ENJOYING the music the rest of the time. (Sometimes I do think that we actually listen to the music a lot more than other band members!) Effects? If you want certain sounds they are pretty much essential, but you can most certainly get away with not using them for 99% of applications. Before I ventured into the realm of pedally goodness I had been in bands ranging from grunge, rock and roll, metal, prog, funk and pop with nothing but my hands, a cheap bass and a decent amp. It was only when I started chasing tones I'd heard other players using and gained inspiration that I decided to explore further... Actually, thinking about it... That's how I first came across BassChat! I was looking for in depth information about overdrive sounds... the Sansamp in particular! Woah, total nostalgia moment there
7. To be fair i HATE hearing people tuning up on a gig, it reeks of unprofessionalism
8.
I've got loads of pedals to get my sound & sometimes I wonder... Do I really need a bass?
Good point, and actually, no!
9. Don't be silly Shep, you could OBVIOUSLY do your band without effects
10. These are really well made and great sounding basses especially for the price! The battery thing shouldn't be too difficult to fix either Out of interest, do they sell "B-stock" stuff down at Peavey HQ in Corby? It's not far from where my family live but I've never actually taken the time to visit!
11. Ridiculously heavy/bulky. You won't get the 4x10 through doors easily... Amazing sound though!
12. It depends what sound you're trying to create. I got along fine for years without them but I don't think I could stop now!
13. Gah! You're making me wish I had money for a second one now ridiculous deal!
14. Amazing! But then again I bet you have more fans
15.
Don't like us we are trying to keep it under 50 for tax purposes. http://www.facebook.com/thegreatestbandintheworld
Did you ACTUALLY support the cheeky girls?
16. Have the strings been on for a while? They tend to lose their stiffness after a while. My 6 string has 18 month old strings on it and it buzzes all over the place
17. I hope these are sold, the temptation is too great!
18. Photography is not my strong point, but...
19. I've never taken a spare bass and thankfully it's not bitten me on the arse yet! On cover band gigs I take two basses though...A 5 in standard tuning and a 4 in Eb... I guess if it came to it I could just keep retuning instead of swapping basses!
20. Welcome to the site! Great to see another Peavey lover I totally read this thread as "As a finishing touch... God created the... B-String"
21. Another vote for sticking to 10's. If you don't want a 2x10 then get two 4x10s and blast away If also agree with EssentialTension about not bothering to change the pickups or pre before trying them with the rest of the rig. It sound like you're gonna have an amazing tone anyways! Don't forget to chuck some pictures in Gear Porn when you get it all!
22. Black scratch plate?
23. Oh man, such a shame... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300715853460?redirect=mobile
24. How many bumps until its considered playing with yourself???
25.
As my Signature
I can only imagine how awesome that rig must sound
