The only strings I've seen that LOOK exactly like those are Ernie Ball's. However they're primarily nickel, and if they're still bright after 2 months use I could very well be mistaken

I would say it's New until it's been played at least once. Most guitars being sold as new in shops have probably been tried at least once. Therefore I would not see them as new... If it's been played but has absolutely no signs of use, IE bright strings, no scratches or dings etc then it should be sold AS NEW, not NEW.

There's no real 'right answer' it seems! A fascinating topic though

So on most 'real' gigs, the bass player's sound will be coming through the FOH, with the cabinet purely being there for monitoring purposes. The only solution to this would be for the bass player to turn down, and not hear themselves as well, resulting in a lesser performance. This is why I'm now much happier to have a 4x10 behind me. It means I can be as loud as I like without pissing off my bandmates! (Also,the audience's experience is marginally important I guess )

I'm an expert on the subject of bass playing... By that I mean I KNOW just about everything I need to know about bass playing... Actually playing the thing is a different story

On a similar note, my peavey fiver has a knackered but as well... My stupid fault that was! Are truss rod nuts fairly universal in size? I'd hope to be able to replace it fairly easily... I'm using it at the moment on gigs but it is uncomfortable to play! I'll try KiOgon's tricks when it comes to actually getting the knackered one out!

If he sold it to you like that he's stitched you up mate, you'd be within your rights to return it despite him telling you he doesn't take returns (I wonder why he says that!). If you want the bass I guess you could send him a bill for the repairs. How did you pay for it? If its Paypal or similar, it's so easy to get a refund
