Can you recommend a drum machine to practise with?
chrismuzz replied to stefBclef's topic in Theory and Technique
I practice with the simple drum beats on the Zoom B3, there's quite a few on there, and you can either plug it into your amp or headphones I haven't looked into it loads yet so I don't know if there are any odd time signature beats on there like 7/8 for example but still! -
Man,it would be rude NOT to give it a go myself now... Thanks for the advice
It'll be smaller, lighter and more reliable than your HH cab!
That's the first time I've ever heard those two words used to describe SWR gear

Dood is selling a Markbass F1 which he painted black for a measly £300 Very similar to the LM series but half the size, and you get a tad more aggressive midrange. Easy as pie to make it sound like the LM's aswell!

So who's playing a Jubilee gig? :)
chrismuzz replied to Zoe_BillySheehan's topic in General Discussion
Where`s the gig Zoe? I`m playing a gig on Sat, if that counts, but as I`ve damaged my wrist/arm, the singer is taking bass duties, and I`m there purely for my backing vocal talent We didn`t want to blow the gig out, as it`s a fund-raiser for Cancer Research, so, with our new drummer, who`s had 2 rehearsals and 1.5 gigs, we`re now swapping things about with said singer holding the low-end for this one.
That's cool man, and pretty rock n f***ing roll hope it goes well! -
My problem with this debate is: I like effects, my favourite bass players use effects quite a bit(Tim C, Takeshi Ueda) and while at hoem and playing I can write a fairly decent set of lines with effects doing a lot of work, with out having to chanmge my usual playing style. However as soon as more guys turn up (usually guitarists) I feel they are totally unecerssary(being open minded it maybe just the kind of music it is) Example there is one song where In my head using some chorus of phase effects in the chorus will add a lot of ambience and sound mint! and adding fuzz or drive to the massive ending will really give a massive layered sound and make everything huge. While at home it sounds good, the same lines sound just as good with no effects(is compressor really an effect??????????) so I'm turn at what to go for. While in the band setting the effected sound just doesn't quite sound right, again this could be the music we are playing, which is fairly straight forward.
This is mostly bang on. I use my phaser effect on one song, and it's in the verses where it's just bass, drums and vocals. Wouldn't work anywhere else but just there it sounds +++AWESOME+++

Depending on what order you want your effects in, you may actually be cool with the compressors on the B3! They beat the (quite limited if i'm honest) array of units I've tried, except for the Aguilar! The sansamp model is OK but in an A/B test it's clearly not as good as the real thing or even the BDI21! BDI + Jackhammer work well together, and would be loads cheaper than a VT Deluxe so I would be tempted to try that first Someone on BC was selling a jackhammer last time i looked actually!
Ordered a B3 last week. But cancelled it when it became clear that delivery date shifted from 30th of May to 20th of june. Sold my looper and big muff in the meantime...
Where did you order it from? www.effectpowersupplies.com say they're in stock and offer free delivery

Just an aside, in my old band the guitarist referred to my bass tracks as 'the worst piece of sh*t he's ever heard in his life'. So it could be worse EDIT: Wow I just found one of the tracks on Myspace! Check out the worst (and probably quietest) bass playing in the world right here! Almost half an hour long but this is a really great review of the Markbass Combo 121 Lite, by it's endorsee Alain Caron himself! He's clearly really passionate about it! i'm not even interested in buying it but it's a pleasure to watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=manVAVxPIbc
I have got that exact same peavey 5 string bass lol. Nice one.
They're well nice to play aren't they! Shame I destroyed the truss rod nut on mine

I've never been lacking in volume using Markbass stuff on any gig, and that's without an extension cabinet! Personally I think youll be fine
-
Kind of OT, but this is what they've done for their DV Mark guitar line, and it looks ace
Yes, hilarious and very well done. Especially the dodgy cable connection stuff. This however, is going much too far - totally unbelievable!
Please tell me that's not real
Well, I took that one hook, line and sinker (I blame the blue nun!).
To be fair it's probably the best 'shreds' video i've ever seen. It's only cause i'm familiar with his work that it had me rolling across the floor
My point exactly... I like the sound at low volume but found it too brittle and too different at high violumes with a hint of it struggling. Whereas the amp that I have doesn't behave like that at all. Not saying Markbass are bad..I think the amps are made well...but I don't expect such a difference at higher volume. It means you have to EQ for every gig and that low level EQ experimention is pretty worthless, IME. Not the worse thing ever about amps, admittedly.. but not something my fave amp does or indeed my old SWR does so much.
I thought that was just the norm with amps Every other one I've used either lost all the low end, or had to be turned down to get more headroom... or just turned into a muddy mess! Then again other than Markbass I've only used Laney, Trace Elliot, Marshall, Ashdown, Ampeg, and Behringer! What are you using now?
Quick, read this.
Why did I just read all that? And why did was there a diagram showing a bear stealing a hat???

Does anyone else think the 'demo version' of this head looked loads sexier??
What a prick, he isn't fit to lick Jaco's arse.
That's actually an overdub, it's someone taking the piss

I
There are a few tut vids on yt which show the basics.
I pretty much look everything up on Youtube these days, but the thought never occurred to me Thanks!

OK, so I haven't played the 6 string properly in quite a while... Picked it up the other day and it just didn't feel as 'right' as my 4 and 5 strings with the stock Peavey pickups in! I'm considering putting the stock ones back in to see if I prefer them, however last time I took it to a tech it cost me £30. A fair price, but if I decide I don't like them I'm gonna have to shell out again. I'm considering just getting a soldering iron and trying it myself this time. I've never soldered anything in my life though, so I'm just wondering what the likelihood of me destroying my bass is

It's worth mentioning that they also sell Line 6 wireless kits among lots of other cool stuff
