I was having a dig around. Your usual strings are 45-105. Fender do the same string in a lighter gauge at 40-100 but if that isn't light enough then you'll have to change brand. The D'addario's I posted are very low tension. But the problem is that many other makers don't publish their tension figures. So you might find that someone else's 35-95 set are lighter than the D'Addarios. That being said - the D'addario 35-95 are not far off the Status-Graphite 30-90. They are much closer than the different gauges suggest. Not many makers do a 30-90 set BUT you could get the highest 4 strings from a 6 string set That would probably be the lightest of all, but that means tuning down a huge amount from the intended tuning - Truss Rod adjustments and probably nut changes are likely. Personally - I'd suggest giving the Status or the D'addarios a try. They are both good strings and really light.

Fabulous body design. Very clever. But even if I was in the market, that headstock makes my teeth itch! (Sorry! I know it's very difficult to find something usable and unique these days)

I'm doing the lessons. Fair to say that the first few etudes are really quite easy. But also that the last ones (In the Beginner / Intermediate pack) are quite difficult. For me anyway. Comparing to my daughter's clarinet studies I would say the early ones easier than Grade 1 Trinity, at Lesson 24 (the last lesson in this pack) are about a Grade 5 level. The first pack really is aimed at learning to read music - every exercise is in C. Pack 2 introduces the sharps and flats and Pack 3 is Scales. Pack 4 is Chord Tones. It's quite odd with everything being in C, but my experience of reading is from Sax and so with that just about nothing is in C! I'm going to try and do 10 or 15 minutes per day just reading as recommended by my daughter's amazing clarinet teacher.

Maybe D'addario - they do a piccolo bass set. Perhaps they will sell them individually. Good strings too - I had them on my Hyperbass.

I wanted a set of flats for my P-Ray. But as the Thomastik JF345 set seems to have gone up in price stupidly I've decided to try the La Bella low tension set. Doesn't seem to be much chat on here about them, so I'll just have to wait and see for when they arrive. fingers crossed that I like them!

I bought the first one. Will get stuck in tomorrow

Anyone tried any of these? When he was still at the Players School I was tempted to go on one of his 1 week intensive tuition courses, but I didn't sort it out in time. The online system seems to be his new approach. I'm quite tempted to give one of the packs a try https://www.jeffberlinmusicgroup.com/bass-lessons/

Nice.

If they release the black one with the maple neck, I'm having one! Although the white one in the instagram pic is very lovely too.

His signature bass is a nice take on the stingray -
I said exclusively 5 as that is what leaves the house with me. But I do own a couple of 4s. House use only.

The Aggie db 751 model on the update is superb.

I like him. So nerrrrrrrrrr -
I've wanted a 751 for years, but the weight of it means I couldn't cope. I remember trying one with one of the tall aggie 4x12s. It was amazing. Can't wait to do the update now!

It can be a bit disappointing but it’s not worth getting upset about. There are also many basses in sale in the classifieds that are not modified or badly treated and yet been on sale for months. I can think of 2 that have been popping up for years. Clearly they are also overpriced for the current market. But the owners have clearly decided on the money they want and refuse to accept less. Up to them, it is their property. still on the plus side their repeated payment of subs to the site can only be a good thing!

He's not my bag either. I recognise that his fame caused the bass to become more popular, and that in turn leads to more players and better gear etc but I view him as someone who may well have started something new but was quickly left behind by those who came after him. It's like JJ Cale tapping before EVH made it famous. The idea was the same, but the technique needed a composition before it made more people appreciate it - and that's what Eruption was. Venom really started the thrash thing, but they were quickly surpassed. So I'm glad Jaco did his thing and I'm glad it caused a bit of a revolution. But I won't be buying any CDs of his any time soon.

Just saw that. Loads more Marshall’s and the Aggie DB751 some fun pedals too including a routing block to collapse stereo paths. That will be ace.
