1. First ding is painful but inevitable. After that first one I'm more relaxed. Ultimately they are tools that get used and will suffer wear and tear.
2.
Attenuation earplugs. I have must google them. Will I find tartan paint and left handed hammers in the same search?
No - because some ear plugs are treble reducing muddy sound inducing, and some have a flat attenuation that pretty much keeps the sound you want to hear, but at a lower volume. There's a world of difference between the yellow roll up ear protection things, and a proper set of ear plugs that are custom made for your ears. You can get them fitted in many branches of Boots.
3. Exchange rates I bet. I doubt very much DG have raised their price so soon after release.
4. I solved it with my old one by not caring whether they turned on or not. Seemed to be the easiest and cheapest approach!
5. Doug thought the internet was the work of Satan and thought it would never last. Blockbuster were already in the sh*t by then. The world changed.
6. Just seem on the fretboard forum that Dan Coggins, the original designer of Lovetone pedals has teamed up with ThorpyFX Apparently they are going to be releasing analogue modulations, octave fuzz, ring mods etc etc I am a fan of Thorpy pedals, but this has me extra excited - I'd love an updated Meatball!
7. I'd love to try that. I love my Consat Custom
8. I had a wood neck 6 string about 10 years ago. It was a very fine bass.
9. I just did my first rehearsal with EBMM Cobalt Flats. Sounded brilliant this morning- loads of fundamental with a lively bite at the top. Very happy!
10. the Bass Gallery are listed on the Dingwall site as being dealers but I've never seen one in there. BD claims to be the biggest holder of stock in Europe so I don't think you'll find a better selection elsewhere.
11. SRMachine Sight reading practice for lots of instruments.
12. I've been using them for a couple of weeks and I'm impressed. They feel great after being played in a bit and the stickiness has gone. The low B is nice and clear. All I need now is for them to last a few years and they'll be perfect!
13. I learn every note by memory even if it is a reading gig. If I can't play it all from memory, solo, then I'm not ready. I'll still perform it of course but I won't be happy that I'm under prepared.
14.
I really am sorry for my ignorance guys, butting having read the thread mentioned above on wiring the two pups in series, won't that just sound like both pick ups on full volume.... Be gentle with me....
No. Because that's in parallel and not series.
15. On the Bass Direct channel on YT. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPD1mEDgnpo
16.
Dave, I love improvisation. I think it's a dying art. Against my better judgement I recently went to an open mic. When I was called up me and the drummer started a groove improvising in G major 7th. We were waiting for the young guitarist to come in. He didn't come in. He walked over to me and to and says; 'I only know songs" ? Blue
Sounds like an awful lot of highly skilled classical musicians to me. I play in a local educational orchestra (and smaller ensembles) and the drummer / percussionist and me have a lot of pub gig experience. We piss about with the tunes as we feel like it (or up to the point we get told off!) The vast majority of the classical guys get upset when we are doing that, let alone when they are told they can improv! They seem to freeze, or play what is written with the odd added octave or rest! One of my mates is a cellist. Could sight read Grade 8 exam pieces in a dark room wearing sunglasses. She can't improvise worth a damn.Funnily enough the players of the "jazz" instruments (trumpet, clarinets etc) seem to be far better. I suppose there is more of a cross-over for those instruments. But the bassoons and cellos etc - not a chance.
17. To do justice to some tunes they are needed. You're not going to get a choir in or a string section for 2 songs in the list.
18. This has more heft than anyone needs http://www.extron.com/product/product.aspx?id=xpa4002&s=5 It's a permanent installation power amp but I know some who are using it in their rigs. - guitar and bass. They are about £1200 and sold to certified installers. There are ways though, of course!
19. My Helix sends an IR signal to the PA and a non IR signal to a power amp and cab. Complete control.
20. You might want to point out how much the LED and pickup / EQ upgrades are. As they cost a fortune! Lovely bass!
21. The bands I've played in have either had the Boss pedal tuner or the TC. I like the TC one. It's bright and works well on a low B. I wouldn't want it in the amp. In a dedicated preamp like my Helix is ok, but not in a regular head.
