1. I really like my Darkglass. I have previously loved the Empress, and one day I will have another. At the cheap end I also really like the Marshall ED-1. Great value for money.
2.
Well... that's saved me some money
I think it gets very clean! Low gain, no drives. It's great.
3. That post could be the very definition of false equivalence.
4. See if Bass Direct have one and ask them to price match?
5. Funnily enough, I really like the foam cheap ones for when I'm singing. I find the extreme EQ change to be very useful. Rubbish for use listening to a loud gig of course.
6. Piano I think. But I really love the cello too even though I have never played one.
7. Standard gig punter response. "Can I have a go on your bass?" "Only if I can have a go on your woman." Seems to do the trick.
8. I'm not answering. Mainly because by 10am I will have changed my mind.
9.
Definitely not in the right price range. I don't even think they're made as well as they used to be. I wouldn't buy one of the newer shapes, they look kinda ugly in the pursuit of individuality. Just a personal preference, I'm sure they still tick a lot of boxes for a lot of people
There are rumours that Fender were "involved" in the new shape being introduced. Fender haven't tried it on with Sadowsky or Lull, presumably because the price points are so different. So if it is true, it must be because Sandberg were perceived to be taking market share.
10.
Sandbergs are lovely but are no longer in the right price range. £1900 is insane.
As said - £1350 ish without the relic paint effect.
11.
Disgustingly overpriced!
The hardcore aged ones have always been about that. Bass Direct have one at only £50 cheaper, and an un-aged at £1350 The aged process is expensive.
12. Stickiness is already going after a few hours noodling in front of the telly. Tension is a little higher than the rounds of the same gauge but I wanted a little more tension so that is great. Very much enjoying them. Will rehearse with them on Saturday and see how it goes then.
13. I don't think 5 string P bass players are "fiercely loyal" to Fender. It's just there is very little choice in the 5 string P bass market under about £1500 Above that and there is quite a bit of choice. Lull, Sadowsky, Sandberg etc
14. EMG's come with a standard Tone control. EQ systems are optional extras. My ray5 has EMGs in it. 2 vol, 1 Tone. Lovely
15. Oi! It was and still is a stunning instrument. The middle pickup that was in it was installed professionally, and the split outputs into 2 rigs was amazing.
16. Mine finally arrived from the US. 5 string set for my Ray. Only had 15 mins with them on but they feel pretty good so far. Bit sticky as said but I'll play it loads and see what happens.
17. Rehearsal finished. Very pleased with it.
18. Rehearsal starts in an hour! Could be fun!
19. Right chaps.... Anyone know of a good bag that will fit it properly?
20. I'm not fussed about sub £500 instrument reviews. I don't want my mundane life reflected in a magazine. I want porn. I want really nice kit to drool over. I don't buy car mags with VW Polos in them either. I buy ones with cars I want but could never afford.
21. I used to sub, then stopped. I still buy it if I happen to find a rare newsagent with a copy. If there are new owners I might give it another try. I do like a printed mag, and unlike my iPad it doesn't matter too much if I drop it in the bath!
22. Some fuzzes can cause problems in the loop. There was a thread on thefretboard by some amp builders as to why. Something about causing output transformer modulation and instability. I'll see if I can find it.
