1. Basschav club?! I play a Fender P in a mostly covers band, and i wear Primark T shirts! Do i qualify? Liam
2. What a lovely collection. Might i recommend the Stagg GDC-6/GDC-8 stands. I've got a rebranded (Spider/Flight Case Warehoues) GDC-6 for all of my intsruments and it's surprisingly solid. Liam
3. Bolt on has it's benefits, and neck through has it's benefits. Each one suits a different player, different instruments, different manufacturers and their processes.. Bolt-on necks seem to more prevalent for mass production, as i'd guess they're easier and cheaper to do, whereas many people opting for a custom build go for a neck through option. It's all down to what you want IMO. I will say that although my main bass is a Fender, i do sometimes find them a little bit boring, which is why i want a metalflake pink P bass with matching headstock and fretboard LED's, but at the base of it all, it's still just a P bass. Liam
4. All my basses & guitar are in a 6 way stand in my bedroom. My amp head is shoved in a cuboard somewhere in the house and i did have a 25w practice amp, but it's still at the drummers house. Liam
5. I have 3 basses at the moment. Never a difficult decision on which one to take as it's unless i need a B string, take the precision. I do want to add a Stingray, a nicer 5 (G&L maybe?) and a fretless jazz in there too though. Liam
6. The more i look at this, the more i realise that it's perfect for my pedalboard, but at that price, i may think again. Liam
7. I get all mine as physical CD's, mostly from Amazon. I have debated buying off google before now but i never have. Liam
8.
You need to move on by the sound of it!
I have honestly debated on it, but i love the stuff too much. Playing p*ss easy music means i look like a really good bass player and have a blast whilst i'm on stage. Liam
9. I've been told i'm too good for my band a few times, but nothing else really. Liam
10. I use Guitar Pro tabs of Ultimate-Guitar.com personally. Liam
11.
Thats Phil Simmonds he went to Tech Music School however i would say that he's the exception rather than the rule for us that study bass at uni from what i understand phil got that gig by being a phenomenal player and networking relentlessly the whole time he was at uni one thing i would say is that studying bass at somewhere like ICMP is not tantamount to a career in music, you will encounter many people who are there for entirely the wrong reasons and in some situations saying that you have studied at these places will actually hinder you getting gigs On the other hand studying bass is an incredible experience you will learn so much and become a much better player for it i'm in my final year of a music degree (not at ICMP but a competing school) and i don't regret a second of it of course i'm not trying to put you off just sharing some of my experience as a student in london if you'd like to chat sometime about it liam your more than welcome to PM me
I understand all of this from looking at it these past few months. Phil is an exceptional player, he has to be to land a gig that good. Hard work is essential to really make what is a fairly specific course worth it and get what everyone hopes to achieve out of it. Even if a career in music is impossible for me, the experience and the gains to my musical abilities will be more than worth it, and will be put to good use either way. Thanks for the PM offer, I'll probably make use of that, and likewise, if there's anything else you think I should know, I'm more than happy to listen to someone with experience of what I want to do. Liam
12.
I'll let you know how it works when I try it. Although, noob question I know, not sure if I should take the batteries out or not when I use it.
I do with all of mine. Make sure you keep the battery in your gig bag though, just in case you ever need it. There's about 5 floating around my various cases and bags. Liam
13. Just the ticket. I've been after a relatively cheap fretless (should my plans to acquire the one at work fail) so this is very appealing. Liam
14. Unfortunately I don't think there's anywhere in Manchester that stocks those in store. PMT may do but I haven't been over that way for a good while. Liam
15. I'm planning on heading to ICMP to study bass next year, with a friend who's doing songwriting. Whether it will lead to anything, who knows, but if it doesn't, I'm fairly well qualified in IT for my age so I have other less interesting avenues. I know there's a guy on here who went to uni doing bass and plays for Jessie J at the moment. Liam
16. I'm happy to pay the 20 quid even though what I'm planning to sell is under 50 quid. I reckon most users of BC pay less than that for a set of strings. Liam
17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TcLuHBgtwQ It's an awesome song too. It's a guy over on TB's band that he posted a few years back. Either that, or November Rain. Liam
18. Most stuff can be adapted to be done by a 3 piece with not that much effort. Some guys i know managed to do Walk by Foo Fighters (3 guitar parts at least) with a single guitar. It's easy to fill out that empty space where they rhythm guitar would normally be with a tonal tweak or two as well, but i'm guessing you'll already know that one. Liam
19. The current look of my new PT Nano. The TU-2 is going to be replaced with a Polytune Mini, the JH-1 replaced with a VT bass, and i'll stick a Line6 G50 on there as per my previous posts, though it's pretty good like this until funds allow me to make those changes. Liam
20. Maple/Maple (Birdseye preferably) and 22 Frets with a Zero fret too.
21. Usually Bruno Mars - Runaway Baby for me. Just such a good riff. I always find my left hand doing the fretboard movements as well, which a can be a bit annoying. Liam
22. I'll also vote 5, just because it's a nice number of strings to have. Liam
23.
I wanna do a crazy musical 3 guitar jazz fusion/heavy Rock experimental thing. But can't find a drummer in the leigh/wigan, gtr manchester area!
There's never any good musicians around Wigan/Leigh/Bolton that aren't already in bands and don't want to be in another one, which is why i'm only doing acoustic stuff at the moment. Liam
24. Looking good there. I'm doing the same, but going as small as possible, down to a Pedaltrain Nano, which should be fun. Liam
