Basses that have come and gone this year.
LiamPodmore replied to Highfox's topic in General Discussion
Only my 1985 MIJ Fender P come in for me this year. Nothing out either. Liam -
Harley Benton Powerplant Junior from Thomann. I've used that with 5 pedals (Marshall JH-1, Boss TU-2, MT-2, Behringer BDI-21 and a Joyo JF-12) without any issues. Liam

Best sound i've ever experienced at gigs were Shinedown at Apollo and Blink 182 at the MEN/Manchester Arena as it's now called. Perfectly balanced mixes for both, and mighty bass tones. I wasn't anywhere near the desk (About 10ft infront of the left hand side subs at Shinedown and 2nd tier at Blink 182) either so must've been some damn fine mixing work. Worst was possibly at a 30 Seconds to Mars at Manchester Central/GMEX, but only for the opening act which makes me think it was just a bit of sly mixing from the engineer, or the bands engineer was cr*p and couldn't get a passable mix for that room. Everyone else that night sounded immense. Liam

Nope, same as BassPimp66 for me, just lots of viagra, holidays to Ireland and casinos for me, oh and emails from Epiphone for some reason. Liam
I have the Landmark 300 and it is one hell of an amp. You can get some really nice sounds out of it (including SVT ofcourse), and they can be picked up fairly cheap secondhand. I just wish they still made the 600.
From what i've heard they are monstrous amps. I would love a VT1000 but i think it'll be cheaper just to run a VT Deluxe into a power amp. Get 6 channels that way too. Liam

I have Dunlops on my P, and i'm glad. They feel incredibly sturdy, especially compared the Fender branded ones on my Squier 5 string. I'm swapping them to Dunlops as i don't trust them at all. They allow the strap a lot of movement around the button too which is good for me as i'm pretty active and don't like my strap to only be in one place, so the angles at each button are always changing slightly .
I recently saw some small guitar amps by tech 21 using their sansamp technology they were lovely looking units be Wesome if they had done a bass one
Meet the VT Bass 1000 and VT Bass 1969 (VT Bass with a power amp) as well as the Landmark 300 (Bass Driver DI with a power amp). Not exactly small amps, but they're Tech 21's Sansamp Amps, which makes no sense whatsoever but who cares. Liam

I'm definately in that younger age range and i wont play, or go to a gig without my earplugs. I'm the only one of my band who uses them at gigs, though the vocalist and drummer use them at rehearsals (even though our rehearsals are a hell of a lot quieter?!). There's been occasions when i haven't worn them, for various reasons, and it's been hell afterwards. I do need to go for a hearing test soon myself, just to check all is in order. Liak

What brand are the Emperors new clothes ?
LiamPodmore replied to Black Coffee's topic in Bass Guitars
Does anything else need to be said other than that picture? Liam -
One of the best 5 strings i've ever played was a Yamaha TRB 5'er. Just get something used and spend a few months with it, see what you like about it, what you don't, then if you decide you like 5 strings, go and hunt down the perfect one. You may do what i did and discover that a 4 string is where you should be sticking, though i do still have the 5 and use it often, as well as wanting another one. Liam

It's WaterWench or GuitarWench when working with Jess' acoustic stuff, or it was Pod and/or BassMonkey when i was with ALBO. I also want to join some sort of Vampire themed band so i could call myself Count Podula. Liam

What I'd really like for Christmas
LiamPodmore replied to Ancient Mariner's topic in Other Instruments
What i would like for Christmas myself: Taylor 814ce (Anyone offering?!?!) What i am more likely to get: Ibanez EW20xxx Not that i have any complaints at all about the Ibanez EW series, gorgeous guitars for the price, but that Taylor 814ce is just wonderful... Also, AM that black Washburn isn't something i'd normally like, but daaammmmmnnn that thing looks good. Liam -
Just to be clear we are talking about a special situation "multi-band events" and you need to employ special tactics.
Does photobombing every picture you can with one of your bands business cards count as a 'special tactic'? I'm sure there's a good few people gone home and looked at a photo of their mates with an A Little Bit Outlaw business card inbetween their heads Liam

How has your day been as a bassist?
LiamPodmore replied to charliethornton's topic in General Discussion
I haven't properly sat down and played bass for well over a month now. I have 3 out in my bedroom to just grab and play when i feel like it, i just haven't felt like it recently. I think i need to pull out my Bass For Dummies book again. Liam -
Specific songs that people played on are what did it for me. Cliff Burton on Master of Puppets, Flea on Zephyr Song, and Mike Kroeger on some of Nickelbacks heavier stuff. Liam
-
I use a bog standard Fender 2" leather one that's atleast 5 or 6 years old, i'll see if there's any specifics on it when i get home. I find it really comfy with pretty much all of my basses, and it DEFINATELY doesn't stick to clothes (This confirmed by throwing a p bass around my neck in true rockstar fashion when bored one evening) Liam

The best gig we ever did, we went on first out of 5 bands. Managed to get every member of the audience having a blast within 3 songs, despite the fact that the only people there who had ever heard of us were the 7 people we sold tickets to. Tapping into 4 bands audiences is quite useful, especially when 2 of them are a very similar genre. We never leave before the last band has played though. All equipment goes backstage/sidestage/wherever until the crowd have gone. Liam

Bog standard JD Tortex .88mm (Green) at the moment, though i'm moving down to the 0.73mm ones after spending a few gigs using my PikCard as i had none on me (The green skull one if anyone wants to know) and i find they fit me better. Liam

Stage left or tage right. Who cares ?
LiamPodmore replied to BILL POSTERS's topic in General Discussion
Who says you have to be on the stage? I don't mind either, though i tend to end up with the drummer on my left at big gigs (With stages and lights and things) and on my right at pub gigs. No idea why, that just seems to be what happens. I don't mind either. Liam -
Do you tell your work colleagues that you play bass?
LiamPodmore replied to mentalextra's topic in General Discussion
The 2 people i work with both play guitar, and one of them does a lot of work with AV stuff and live streaming as well, so they both know i play bass and i have had good musical discussions with both. Liam -
I'm so glad I've kept a record of every gig I've ever played (851, so far) complete with details of date, band, venue, bass and any accompanying documentation (photos, poster etc.) I've been accused of OCD, but it's great to look back on.
I've done the same, not to the extent of the bass, photos, etc... but a document of every one, including supports/other bands and how the gig went IMO. My total from my records is 35, including performances in school shows and things, 30 if you don't, and half a song a few weeks ago. Liam

One day i was cr*p, so i never played slap. Tried again about a year later out of boredom, and then i suddenly could. That's how i learnt. Liam

Welcome Paul, from another guy in lovely sunny Bolton. There's an almost endless supply of information on here so you've picked the right place to come at the start of your bass journey. Liam

Vocals - Brent Smith of Shinedown (The only thing i need to say about this man is 'Her Name is Alice') Guitar - Paul Crook from The Neverland Express, AKA Meatloaf's backing band (Incredible versatility and immense talent) Bass - Me Keys - Vadim Pruzhanov from Dragonforce (The man is a wizard when it comes to keys/synths) Drums - Edd Langmead of Boomin (Partly because of his phenomenal vocals, and he's really easy to lock in with) That would be one amazing band to be in IMO.
