1.
Have you got the Pure Octave already and if so how do you find it ? I pretty much ruled it out for my tiny board, because of the warbley demos I heard (plus more reports of same).
I haven't yet, but i plan on getting one to give it a go. Though i'm not entirely sure whether it's even worth getting an octave at all yet. Liam
2. Mini poll/vote thingy 1: Line6 Relay G50 - TC E Polytune Mini - Tech 21 VT Bass - Mooer Pure Octave, all on a Pedaltrain Nano OR 2: Line6 Relay G50 - TC E Polytune Mini - Tech 21 VT Bass with a Mooer Pure Octave in the effects loop, all on a Pedaltrain Mini It's mainly a debate of do i need 6 presets or not, and where else could i use that extra £100+ that i'd save by not getting the deluxe. Liam
3.
As others have said, a good set up can change an OK bass into a good bass - both playability and sound. No point in fighting your bass, you might as well make learning etc as easy as possible. Heres a link for instructions on how to do a set up..... http://www.jerzydroz...bass-setup.html Theres no marketing gumph associated with this download so you dont recieve lots of mails afterwards. I've always done my own set-ups for years and I found the book well worth every penny it didnt cost If you're ever near Aberdeen I might be able to help.
I use this as well. It's been a massive help to me. Haven't purchased the book but i use an online PDF version (Which i've just remembered is saved in the bookmarks on my old PC that's now died, best dig it out). Liam
4. Our singer had a massive list of band names that he'd thought of at random occasions over the previous few years. We sent that out to our fans, asked them to pick their favourite 3, compiled the results, and from that day forth we were A Little Bit Outlaw. Liam
5. When A Little Bit Outlaw come back together again in summer, i'll have that as well as being the lead guitarist for my friends acoustic stuff (Who's actually supported my main band) and on bass when she finally gets a full band together for it. In my eyes, the more gigging i can do, the better, as i'm always feeling best when i'm onstage. Liam
6.
I like that number, but Never Get His Turn is my favourite
It bored the hell out of me until i added that section. Never Get His Turn is one of our favourites as well, especially after we completely re-wrote it and added some uhh... interesting features (A big dubstep style breakdown which allows me to use excessive amounts of fuzz combined with an envelope filter and a wah). Always goes down a treat live. Liam
7. My favourite bassline in any of my bands originals, is a song called Lying Through My Teeth. There is a recording but it's the worst recording ever and you can't hear the bass on it (Though i'll add it to this anyway when i get home). Just a pretty simple thing involving a few octaves and some hammer ons for good measure. Liam
8. The gigs i've done where it's gear share, i've always cleared it with the other bands first, and if they say no (Which i've never actually encountered) i'm more than happy to go DI as it's always at somewhere like Academy with a monster PA. I don't have my own cab (Due to cash/storage/transport arrangements) so whenever anyone's willing to lend one is always helpful. I intend to get my pedalboard set up so that i can go DI without any issues whatsoever as soon as i can afford everything i need. Liam
9. To me, a good bassist is someone who plays the right notes (Be that the note, the amount of notes, or where those notes are) to fit the song. Whether that's 2 handed tapping (A Wilhelm Scream - The Horse), or just simple root notes with the odd fill thrown in (Dougie from McFly), or even just mirroring the guitar riff note for note (RATM - Killing In The Name). Whether that person is the most technically proficient player on the planet has no bearing IMO. You could do 2 handed tapping in a McFly song but it would likely sound horrible. I find it more impressive to know a person can play like that, but chooses not to as it wouldn't fit the song/band that they're in, than someone who constantly shows off all of their technical skills. Liam Note: Everything said is just my opinion, you may hate the bassists/songs mentioned and think they're absolutely sh*te but you're more than welcome to.
10. Looks like i'll be on a mass liking spree tonight. Not sure where i got up to last time so i'll just start from the top again. Liam
11. The prices have been higher since the export of neodymium out of China was restricted, as that's pretty much where all the worlds supply comes from at the moment. There was something on the Barefaced website about it as they had to charge extra per driver because of the sudden price increase. Liam
12. Pretty much always use my P bass, unless i need the 5 string, though in the year i've had my P, i think the 5 string has left the house 3 or 4 times. Liam
13.
True. What we need is to have a couple of really successful bands/artists who do everything themselves - writing, performing, recording, producing, distributing, promotion etc... who have an exciting take on popular music to really move things along. Tall order. The Internet and DAW technology should make all of the above possible, but it's not necessarily guaranteed to be successful...
Enter Shikari fit this until the past couple of years, and i know The Blackout did as well (Even to the point where they had pledges and a donation fund to manage to record an album). Not sure i'd really call either Innovators, though i suppose the way Enter Shikari have fused electronic music into rock/metal could be seen as innovative. Liam
14. Most active circuits are just passive pickups running into an active EQ, so you shouldn't have a problem there as far as i can see. Liam
15.
With my Ibanez SR Prestige hard-case (obviously specific to the SR bass itself) it won't shut with a strap on. And strap locks would mean that taking it on and off is a doddle, but the standard Schaller strap lock screws don't fit into the Ibanez holes...
Matchsticks! (Pop one or two in the whole, cut of the excess and screw the schaller in) A lot of people add some glue too but i've never needed to. Either that or get some Dunlops instead. Liam
16. The Cavern in Liverpool, Dry Bar in Manchester (Contact Alex McCann at Designer Magazine), or if you want to go absolutely tiny, The Alma Inn in Bolton. Liam
17. The '95 Squier i got from the youth club where my dad used to work (For free though). Wish i still had it as i reckon it could've been a good bass. Not forgetting the Squier in the music department where i work (They've got a mid 80's MIJ Fretless Jazz that i want though) and the bass what i used at school, which i have no idea what it was. Liam
18. I'd assume that the speakers are pretty similar to the ones in the ABM combos, so providing they are. I know a guy who's been gigging an ABM 1x15 combo for years now without any issues or ever wanting more, and that's including some biiig stages (RockFM Events, Supporting N-Dubz, etc...) Liam
19. I see there's also a VT Bass Rack coming out. Halfway to what i want (MIDI controllable VT Bass Deluxe in a 1U Format) Liam
20.
So what you really need is a thick-walled, non-plastic cab voiced for bass... now where would I get one of those...
http://www.thomann.d...ger_410_mbp.htm The only one in the MBP range i could find. They did do a 2x12 and 1x15 as well, but they may require more searching. Liam
21. Belt and balls when stood up. I don't find things any more difficult when i've learnt them sat down and played them stood up, but i do both on a regular basis. Liam
22. Bass, Strap (Not attached) spare tuner, spare strings for guitarists, spare batteries and some small tools. All cables, effects, etc.. are kept in either a laptop bag, or my pedalboard case which never gets used as a pedalboard. Oh and in case anyone wants to know, it's just the original hard case from my '86 P. One of the ones that will barely fit anything other than a P bass. Liam
23. My modified Ibanez GSR200 and my Squier Jazz Deluxe 5 hardly ever get played, despite the fact that they're right next to my Fender and my Acoustic on stands, ready to be played. Liam
24.
Is a broken cymbal a symbol to drummers?
Yeah, it tells them that they need to stop hitting said cymbals so hard, as does the fact that he/she is almost deaf. I never remember any of my dreams, except the one where i won the euromillions and subsequently spent a lot of money on building a race track in the garden of my new rather large house, before deciding that you were only allowed to race Ice Cream Vans and Bendy Buses on said track.
