Welcome to BC. You're one step closer to being completely brainwashed by low notes and then you will never be able to put your bass down again. But as others have said, there's plenty of banter too, not always bass related. I think MB1's post sums up BC AND Manchester in 3 words... Liam

Got to be maple every time for me. It just looks better. There's something that doesn't look right about Rosewood on a lot of basses. If there's a maple option, i'll usually go for that every time. Liam

As Truckstop said, the king of cheap OD pedals (in my opinion) is the Marshall Jackhammer. I picked mine up for £20 posted on ebay. I recommend having a look at the Behringer BDI-21 as well (as others have already said too). I don't use it as a permanent preamp, more of a backup or a different tone for softer songs, but i've found it pretty reliable. Joyo stuff is rock solid kit. I've got the Fuzz/Octave they do and although i can't get a good bass sound out of it myself, it's built like a tank. Liam

I check it once or twice a year usually. I sometimes change it depending on how i'm feeling. I actually tend to raise it a little before a big gig, because i know i'm gonna be running round and not concetrating on my technique so it limits the chance of fret buzz a bit. Liam

ditched my effects and got my dream sound

My Behringer preamp used to be always on, with a warm valvey tone when i used my Squier. I carried on using it when i got my P Bass, until one day it decided to stop working. I don't think i've ever used it as a permanent preamp since. P Bass - Amp is good for me, though i do have to have various amounts of Drive in there too, so i never go completely direct. Liam -
Bass player by choice, or relegated guitarist?
LiamPodmore replied to Tuono's topic in General Discussion
A blend of both for me. I asked my dad for a guitar and 2 months later he brought me a 'guitar' that he'd got from a clearout where he worked, which happened to be a beaten to sh*t '94 Squier Jazz. I stuck on some new strings and got lessons. So i wanted to play guitar but ended up on bass instead, which 5 years on, is a decision i'm very glad of. Liam -
Strings Direct stock Picato aswell, though i got mine for free on here. Liam

Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkies on my Fender, Power Slinky 5's on my Squier. I find that they're the strings that sound the best to me and they feel nicest. I use Picato flats on my Ibanez 'cause thats what i had around and i was skint. Liam

I can't stand them, something about them just doesn't feel right to me, and i think they look horrible . Liam

Ernie Ball basses - an interesting video
one thought.... bongos look odd.... but a fan fret bongo could look amazing
Bongos don't look good unless they're HH models and 6 string, or altleast 5. The best looking Bongo IMO is a 6HH Stealth, but that's just me. Liam -
My essentials board will be Line6 Wireless, Polytune Mini, SansAmp VT Bass Deluxe, and a Mooer Octave. So for me, it would be Wireless, Tuner, Preamp (with Overdrive and DI) and an Octaver. Maybe add some compression and chorus as well, but not essentials. Liam

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIaEoqz5qCs 80's Japanese P with EMG's. Not sure exactly which model, as it was fitted in the 90's, but it's definately active (There's a god-awful battery route on the back). They're pretty hot, especially compared to my Squier J. I have found they're pretty neutral tonally (as mentioned above) which helps as i do play a pretty wide variety of stuff. I also apologize for my shoddy playing, random HDR effects, and the fact that my bass is too quiet. Liam

Here's the first (And only as we've pretty much broken up) video A Little Bit Outlaw ever did. Shot and Directed by Joe Horrocks, with 2 cheapo cameras. Locations were Daisy Hill Cricket Club's store shed, as well as our guitarist and drummers houses. Not bad for a days work. It was actually handed in by our guitarist (who did the edits) as his A Level Media Studies coursework and is now used as a prime example for all other Media students at Runshaw College. There's a behind the scenes on that channel too, which is quite entertaining. Liam http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpCJuBC7DLk

Thanks for the replies guys. Due to being skint (Apprentice wage is cr*p) i think i'll take a look at Jack's in Manchester. On an unrelated note, Dan, your Orange rig is one of the nicest sounding rigs i've heard around these parts, seen you guys 3 or 4 times and you never fail to impress me, especially on the tone front.
Do you often play with the volume control off then?
I have done once or twice. I do change basses frequently at home, and some gigs, so that's when it's off. I've been debating just swapping both for switches to be honest. Liam
OK then, here we go, one more song from the same gig, this song is called "Fail To Be"
Your vocalist definately has a lot of stage prescence, as do the band as a whole. Very good playing and everything fits together nicely too. Liam

Is this quite a new feature?! (Sandberg Configurator)
LiamPodmore replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm rather liking the look of that. Basic Ken Taylor 5 in Violetburst. Liam -
Heres a wee update for mine. Its simply this set up behringer dc9 -> boss ls2 -> bass synth wah -> joyo octo fuzz -> hartke bass attack. with with dry loop going straight from the compressor to the hartke. Just need my Tu-2 back from my mate and its complete! All sitting in a gator tote pedal board and case! Still doesnt look as tidy as I'd like though!
I couldn't get that Joyo fuzz sounding good AT ALL myself. Lovely on guitar, i could just never get it to hit the spot on bass. I may go back to my olden days and get a Boss MT-2 for my fuzz needs, always sounded good. Liam

Mines either on or off, never inbetween, same with the volume control. Liam

Is this quite a new feature?! (Sandberg Configurator)
LiamPodmore replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
No configurator pics, but i REALLY want that Sunburst TT4 Fretless on Thomann. I'd love a white fretless TT4 with an ebony board but i don't have the £1400 Sandberg's price list says it would cost. Liam -
Your local to me! The best guy near-ish to us is Jack Ellis, the mans a magician as well as his new employee Kieron (he just set up my Fender P). He has just moved workshops to Cheetham Hill, not too far from Victoria Station. Highly recommended
Thanks, i'd seen Jacks site before but everytime i looked it said he wasn't taking on any new work for the forseeable future, but he's changed that back now, so i may be heading off that way. Liam

I didn't use it myself but it sounds like a valuable resource. Thoughts are also with Steve's family, it's always sad to loose someone who puts a lot of effort into what they love and uses it to help other people. Liam

Try it, and if it's not loud enough, try adding another compact,. Liam
