1. I have a 4 string groove bass wine Red finish. Wooden neck reinforced with graphite. Don't use it much these days but not sure I could part with it as it's becoming a bit of a rarity!
2. Got mine last week. Haven't had chance to use it at its full potential yet but I can honestly say from what I've got out of it so far it's a belter!
3. Has anyone had a go at one of these minimax 500 heads yet? I really want to get one but can't find any user reviews
4. That's just what I was hoping to hear. Thanks Bonzodog
5. I am thinking of getting a Hartke LH500 head to run through 2 Ashdown RM cabs. The head is 500w at 4 ohms so my question is...can I run it through the 2 cabs each rated at 250w/8 ohms? I think this will match up nicely but just wanted to make sure. Thanks in advance
6. That's a good enough endorsement for me, thanks. Yeah I know that GK have a good reputation so I'm gonna go for it deffo. I too am a little turned off by the silver grille but I can live with that I guess, although it will look wierd underneath the red cloth of my ashdown 220 dual tube combo but who cares so long as it does what I want
7. Well been and tried the ashdown mag 210 cab with my amp and it sounds ace, only downside is the weight which at 27kg is heavier than my amp which is 26kg and already breaks my back!!! So, I am gonna go for the Gallien Krueger 210mbx cab which is a nice weight at only 18kg. Gonna have to risk buying one online..ie..not being able to try it as I dont know anywhere in Manchester that stocks them.
8. Don't know why I've been harping on about 2x12! I meant 2x10!!!
9. Thanks for the input guys, yeah the 212 cab is an 8 ohm cab same as the combo so impedance wise it will be fine. Good point about having to re-EQ if only using the combo at practice, I hadn't thought of that, although I'll probably use both at practice/rehearsals anyway. Think I'll go down the local PMT and faff about with a few combinations first
10. I do like the sound of the 15 but the high notes seem to get a little lost as well as the volume problem so I was thinking if I added a 2x12 cab it might accent the highs a bit better. So all in all there should be no problem with running a 200w rated 212 cab with the 220w 115 combo then?
11. Hi all I have an Ashdown 220 115 touring combo which I am finding difficult to gig with due to the fact that I have to have the volume up full to be heard which almost distorts the sound of my bass. Therefore I am going to add an extension cab to give me more 'headroom' and hopefully make me a bit louder without having to pump up the volume but I am unsure as to what to add wattage wise. The amp gives out 180w into the built in 15" speaker at 8ohms but apparently this will push out 220w at 4 ohms when I add an ext cab. I am thinking of getting the Ashdown mag210 deep cab which is rated at 200w at 8 ohms. Will this be safe to add to my combo without damaging anything?? There is an ext cab that Ashdown do that is designed for these amps but it's a 112 and I'm not sure a 112 will pair up nicely with a 115 so I really wanted to go for a 212 ??? Any help and advice is greatly appreciated. Cheers Si
12.
Power Windows was the one where nobody had any bass. All mids and treble for the bass sound, electronic drums and Alex's guitar tones are practically supersonic. I believe that instead of amps he used large tin cans with baby wasps in... Bi-amped of course.
Power Windows is the weakest sounding of all the Rush albums in my opinion. Still love it though!!
13. I basically picked up the bass because of Mark King and the slap style he did on the early L42 records which I was totally addicted to. I think it helps if you do have a bit of a slap addiction as it's what you will automatically do when you pick up your bass. I don't play any slap at all in my band but as soon as I'm alone with my bass it's all I do! As for learning to do it...well I find the Rythmic drumming thing easy to do as I was once a drummer so I guess it just came naturally and I got better at it the more I did it.
14. Cheers guys, glad to be part of it
15. Hi all, decided to join this forum as there are loads of good bass people on it and some great info. I'm Simon and I have been playing bass on and off for over 10 years or so although my main instrument was guitar! I have now switched permanently to bass as I love the instrument so much due to the fact that I've always been a huge fan of Mr thunderthumbs Mark King! I currently play in an originals band called Exit 7 and we play indie rock/pop style of music. I use a Status groove and also a Traben chaos obsession bass both 4 stringers, an Ashdown 220 15" touring combo with the occasional addition of a Line 6 bass pod. Looking forward to some good bass banter with you guys and gals. :-)
