1. And this is why single men have more basses.
2.
I believe Gregory had some skin surgery so wore the hat, only for it to become a bit of a trademark and then stuck with it.
A bit like Dr Hooks' eye patch.
3. Wasnt Chas the bassist on the early Joe Meek singles?
4. Beatles - Hey Bulldog. Not one of their most well known songs, but a cracking bassline.
5. The pentatonic scale is your friend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CbWotxP8JA
6. Hard pushed to find the best bass playing I ever heard, but Macca's playing on this still gives me goosebumps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usNsCeOV4GM
7. The Selector - The Selector. Actually it was on the flipside of the first 2 Tone single - Gangsters by The Specials.
8. What a great bassline on London Calling. I have just had a re listen to that song after quite a few years. What a great way of linking the Em and F chords by that chromatic run. Simenon hadnt been playing that long either.
9. Another Stingray fancier here. Even though the sound is not what I want I'm after, I still love the look of them. I went out and got a lovely black and maple SUB to quench my urge but that still sits in its gig bag.
10. She must be in her 80's now. Nice to see her and Petula Clark are still rocking.
11.
There better not be any more of those really irritating moving ones
Like the dancing spiderman?
12.
Is it true or false that a driver gets 3 months off when this happens?
A driver can have as little or as much time off as he needs. It will need to be covered by a doctors cert though. London Underground offers a counseling scheme which is excellent. Of course it can affect people in different ways. I know one guy who never drove a train again.
13. I am a tube driver on the Central Line in London. About 4 months ago some young lad jumped under the train I was driving at Tottenham Court Road station. He never made it. I feel sorry for his family but I never knew his name or why he did what he did. I was taken away from the scene almost immediately while the emergency services did their bit. It is however, an occupational hazard in my job, but a loss of life is still a huge loss. Celebrity or not.
14. I,m the bassist and main backing vox. I am also the de facto musical director. If anyone wants to know a chord sequence etc they always ask me. I only load my own stuff in and out, the singer takes care of all the PA stuff. I sometimes help the drummer carry his stuff to his car if he wants to get away sharpish.
15. The Travelling Wilburies.
16. I know these things are a bit old hat with most recordings done on computers or tablets. But are there still the dedicated all in one units like the old Boss BR 800 in my loft? And what are the recommended models these days?
17. I play the harmonica on a few numbers with the band. Its not really unusual though.
18. There are two versions of Radio Free Europe. The first was recorded for Hibtone records and the second for the debut album 'Murmur' Although the band hated it at the time, they still prefer the first version which I find a bit muddy. While I prefer the second more punchy version. The 1st version is on a compilation call 'Eponymous' if you wanna compare them.
19. My Markbass CMD 121 the other night in a loudish rock band punches well above its weight.
20.
Of course, we've yet to solve the trickiest question on this subject... Exactly what does one do with oneself during verses of Alright Now?
I take a swig of my pint and rock back and forth like Andy Fraser in the IOW video.
21. Old Macca drops a clanger about 3:01 in Let it be. He plays a wrong chord on the piano and quickly corrects it before anyone notices. Unfortunately, I did. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfX0q1aNCos
22. I always carry a spare bass. I have one of those double gig bags so one is left in it in case of bass failure or string breakage. I dont have a spare amp so I may have a look at getting a sansamp.
23.
Erm hadn't you already decided a few posts back that this photo wasn't actually a Nate Mendel and therefore wouldn't have had a Badass (or hi mass as is now) fitted? Confused....
Yes you are right. I had completely forgotten the original post. I had to re read it after I posted the comment. My memory went with my hair.
24.
What was there first album for Warner's?
Green. Released in 1988. It was the follow up to Document.
25.
I loved out Out of Time, a truly great album, I must have worn that tape thin in my car throughout 91/92.
I was in a band who's guitarist was a fan of the early IRS abums. We used to do Begin The Begin, but after they signed to Warners he thought they sold out.
