1.
What is this 'on the coast' thing, anyway? How is that limiting?
Could be worse, They could live on Lindesfarne!
2. There's a lot of love on here for The Gallery in London. I went there once and found them rude and surly. I never went back. Wunjo's however, let me play loads of P basses with no issues. Even encouraging me to try them through different amps. I bought 3 basses from there and still go back.
3. Heavy RH Technique
4. I now use my Sterling SUB 4 on gigs much more now since I sorted out the over powered preamp. Although its not a Fender it punches above its weight in a live situation.
5. Only to other bassists I know. I get a few bands coming to listen to us play when they are not playing. The other week a singer from a mates band wanted to sing a few numbers and the bassist joined in. I scuttled off to the bar and left him to it. Sounded great! I have never heard the sound of my rig as a punter.
6.
I nominate the Line 6 Spider 30 - an indescribably hideous aural caricature of a guitar amp! Bring it on...
Yes +1 My guitarist in my old band had one of those. It sounded like a wasp buzzing around in a tin can!
7.
The one on this album cover in 1961.
I dont recall ever seeing Bruce Welch play a Tele. Obviously a staged picture as Jet Harris took his ashtrays off.
8. I have the Beatles Recording Sessions book by Mark Lewison. Its quite an interesting read. The Beatles and George Martin worked together on the mono versions. The stereo versions were almost an afterthought. None of The Beatles took stereo seriously. In the 60,s it was considered a gimmick. The only album issued in stereo only, was Abbey Road. By 1969 mono was on the way out.
9. The P Bass split pickup introduced in 1957 has been used by countless bass makers and copies since then. It seems Fender struck gold with that design.
10. Have a listen to these excerpts of the stereo/mono versions http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtVF4zl_N0U
11. I have The Remasters on both mono and stereo. The mono version of Sgt Pepper is far superior than the stereo. There are far more little bits that were left out of the stereo.
12. I had a couple of chord books. The Beatles and All Mod Cons by The Jam. I stuck sticky labels on the frets to show where the notes are and plonked along to the records in my room for weeks. Eventually I found some friends about my age who played guitar and drums, and we would jam along together. I played my first gig about 6 months after picking up the bass.
13. Dunno about the heel stamp, but the serial number is right for a 77.
14. My Mum used to play the guitar and my Gran used to play the old Joanna down the Rub a Dub when I was a kid. The rest of my family is tone deaf. Although my Nephew is doing quite well on his violin at school.
15. I,m not a fan of that string mute on the Hurley
16. A Fender Precision when I was 16 I lusted after one. And to this day thats all I play.
17. I had a similar experience with everyones favourite London bass shop in Camden. I took a P Bass there for a minor tweak and a setup on the recommendation of other BCers. Popped it in and was told it would be ready next Tuesday. Being a bit bit of a journey from the other side of London, I thought it would be wise to ring them first. "When did you bring it in?" they asked. Last Tuesday I told them. "Then it would be ready then" OK so I trudge back to the shop only to find they hadnt even started on it! The guy on the phone couldnt even bother to check, and I had a wasted journey. Strangely enough, I have not been back since.
18. I think you are only allowed to upload a certain number of attachments. Once you hit the limit you may have to delete a few of the older ones to free up space.
19. A major and minor Pentatonic. I use these scales all the time. The building blocks of improvisation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enWrSrIGcY4
20.
For you Blue. Think USA = The Ventures, UK = The Shadows. https://www.youtube....h?v=o3tBzYcl7-8 Incidently, one group I play with still have a couple of dozen Shadows and Ventures numbers in our reportoire. Hank Marvin introduced the 1st Stratocaster to the UK and Jet, (the original Bassman), probably the 1st Precision. They were instrumental in firing up my generation into wanting to learn guitar and play in a band, and that includes just about every Brit lead guitarist you can name - Mark Knofler, Brian May etc, etc. This was my 1st LP, Xmas 1961, I still have it. You had to be there to appreciate the impact Hank Marvin's sound had. Can you imagine hearing a Strat' through a Vox AC30, with tape echo and a trem' bar having never heard anything like it before. You just had to be there!
Recorded in London's' Abbey Road Studio 2. The same studio as Blues favourite group would use the following year.
21. This pic has it all. A Fender US Standard P Bass, A dodgy pair of shorts, Markbass CMD121 inc NY ext cab AND a music stand.
22. I was 11 in 1976, so I remember the long hot summer and my last year at Junior school. It would be another 6 years before I took up the bass.
23. I have always assumed I was an average bass player. Recently, I heard a live recording of the band and was quietly impressed with myself. The whole band was tight and the runs and fills I played complemented the songs well. The guitarist once told me that I was the best bassist he had ever played with, and several bassists from other bands have complimented my playing. But still I think I,m average.
24.
I agree. Owning a Fender is about as snobbish as owning a Ford Fiesta.
I have a Fender and a Ford Fiesta.
