1. I have been tinkering with some of the preset settings on a recently acquired Zoom B1. Some of them have quite a good sound. There is a couple of overdriven ones which I quite like, but the sound is quite muddy. I take it these presets have the EQ build in to them to achieve the sound. How do I set my amp to get the best out of these? I guess I have to set it all flat??
2. So jealous.
3.
Don't drums count as "real"?
No. Fair enough you got me.
4. 1983. Westone Thunder 1 bass and Vox 50 watt amp bought from a Littlewoods catalogue. At the White Hart in Acton. Coincidentally the same pub that burned down on New Years Eve.
5. This was a big hit some 44 years ago. All done on a Moog I believe. Not a 'real instrument' to be heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KX_lnmb1Moo
6.
G, G#, A in low octave. G, G#, A in higher octave E, F, F# (Octave up) Mix them all up, throw in a C, C#, D (Octave up) at some point and job done.
Bugger! I'm still doing it wrong!!!
7. Lenny Kravitz - Are You Gonna Go My Way. Not particularly hard, but I couldnt seem to grasp the chromatic bass runs during the solo. They just seemed a random set of notes with no pattern to them.
8. Dont wipe them down after playing.
9. I really wanted to be a drummer. I nearly bough a kit but my mum wouldnt let me have one in the house.
10. John McVie. I love his lovely smooth tone and his bass lines always complement the song. If its a simple 2 note line like 'Dreams' or more melodic stuff like 'Say You Love Me' Its always a pukka line.
11. I always take two basses to a gig. Both are tuned up and ready to go. You never know if you may need a spare.
12.
I'm sure you are a nice bloke, I just like to have a nice new looking bass and try to keep it like that, I'm not anti relic I just don't get them, horses for courses, Im a nice bloke too
Funnily enough, I have a practically mint USA P Bass which I am paranoid about gigging it in case it gets knocked. I also have a reliced bass which I am not so careful with, purely because it looks worn. Even if the wear is imitation.
13. Have a look here https://www.squier-talk.com/threads/serial-number-dating.4704/
14.
Fancy joining them?
15. There is a lot of love for the Nate Mendel P Bass, but think the fake relicing lets it down. I still think its a fantastic guitar though.
16. Ever since I clicked on that link, ebay keep sending me emails asking if I want to buy it!!
17.
Oh no you've said the C word!
Thats OK, I think I got away with it. BTW, Tina Weymouth looked nothing like the way she looked in her other thread on here.
18. Just stumbled across this on the BBC iPlayer. Some good interviews with Carol Kaye and Tina Weymouth.
19. That Gordon Giltrap tune sounds like a theme tune from some obscure 70's sports programme.
20. I was a big fan of The Truth in the early 80's. They rose from the ashes of Nine Below Zero after their split. They never really made it that big, although they did get on Top Of The Pops with this. Any one recall it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0Iyob4kjqM
21. Thanks for all the input. We ran through it in rehearsal and it sounds like it might work out.
22. I hate the high tension and feel of flats. When I first started playing bass in the early 1980's flats had all but been superseded by rounds. I did try a set of flats a few years ago just to see what they were like, but took them off after a few days and went back to rounds. Incidentally, I bought a Limelight 63 P Bass off of Discreet last summer which he had fitted with La Bellas. I took them off and posted them back to him. He was most pleased.
23. Early Madness circa 1979/80. the first two albums were always on my record player when I was 15. Great melodies and jaunty songs. Lost interest in them when Driving In my Car came out. I thought they sold out.
24. I must confess to being an owner of a lightly reliced Limelight. Anything like that Strat above is far too much. (Unless you are in a Rory Gallagher tribute band)
25.
In that case there are more 'great' bass players around than I thought. Keep trying to justify her greatness ad nauseum people...
Yes! You dont rate her. We get it!
