I used to look like this in 1987. Funnily enough, the bass looks exactly the same as it did back then but I,m 3 stone heavier and no longer have the one chin.

The Affinity's are cheap like the budgie. Cheap hardware, pickups etc. You get what you pay for. They are OK for beginners but I would spend the extra on the VM rather than an entry level bass. The VM's have a good rep and are well built with better quality parts.

I use Ernie Ball Reg Slinkies. I like the heavier G string. (.50 I believe it is)

I have the Nate Mendel P bass. Not because I am a fan of his. Its just a great bass which I like the look and the playability of. But that is the limit of my foray into signature instruments. I did like the look of the Sting bass until I saw that stupid 12th fret inlay.

Anyone use a compressor? I am thinking about getting one to give a tighter, punchier sound but I haven't used one before. Anyone got any tips or are they just a bit of a waste of money?

I dabbled a bit with flats a while back. The band I,m in plays some trebley, pick powered Thin Lizzy type stuff, and some old school thump like Free and early Purple. I could not get a set of flats to replicate the twangy stuff accurately enough. I now roll the tone off and stick a bit of sponge under the bridge if I want the flats type thump on my Ernie Ball regular slinkies.

I got to the bit about gay priests before I gave up.
