Right, I think that's settled then Time to engage nice email mode again.

The guitarist has emailed me over the weekend and asked if I'll help out with some recording they're going to do. Scratched my head about this a bit...seems an odd thing to ask. Mrs. Pook reckons no...she said I grumbled about him too much. Any thoughts ? Maybe I should start my own thread !

How about a lock, like the sort you get on lockers ?

Just to echo what others have said....it wasn't a sham, it sounds like a very enjoyable sabbatical, and quite possibly a much-needed one after a pretty rough time. I'm envious....I wish I'd decided to give it a proper bash, but never have..I regret that, but some time down the road you'll be looking back and with no regrets and a lot of good memories.

A cut to the highs (usually by turning the tone down on the bass) and a boost to the lower mids is what I usually use, although I find my volume is higher with fingers than a pick, or rather a lot thicker, so that's why I find the boost to the low mids helps.

Looking good. I've been looking for some of that camouflage paint...no luck yet

Well as an update on my post above, I'm just back from the try-out.. ...and, um....no. The drummer was nice enough but the guitarist was...well, just a bit abrasive all the way through. I'd been sent three tunes so we played through them, without comment from him, and then he spent the rest of the time showing me some other songs that it turns out have been recorded....why didn't he just send me all the songs and have me learn them ? Seemed a bit of a waste of time to do it that way. I left after about an hour, and politely told them I'd think about it. Hey ho, on with the search.

Me too...I've folder with lots of pictures and an rtf of serial numbers, but only of instruments.

Nostalgia is fine, but I'm not sure if making more of the past now is a good idea. Anyway, people go see cover bands to see us awesome bassists doing our stuff. Don't they ?

I asked Mrs. Pook if she had names for my basses and she told me that no, naming objects is silly and anyway, she knew what they all are so why would she need names ? To prove this we went to the spare room of basses and she proceeded to give make and model of the half-dozen basses on hanging up, and just as she left, very pleased with herself she asked me "Well, where's the Geddy Lee then ?".
