1.
For me, my personal wants/needs are so specific that they are a real problem, or so vague that they're useless. The most important part is the music, there is no way I'd be interested in playing music I wasn't totally into. Running a very close second/joint first is the people. I don't want to play with knob'eads. There's no fun in constant arguments and butting of egos. If I could find both of those I wouldn't care if we never made any money, in fact I'd be quite prepared to lose money to enjoy it. As for gigs and recording and stuff, I don't really care. It'd be nice to have the extra stuff but getting together with some mates, having a laugh, writing tunes and playing them loudly would be enough for me.
Totally agree with you KB - I think a band should gig, so it is important that any band I'm in does at least aim to gig, but for me being in a band is about trying to create music you enjoy listening to and playing with nice people. The questions the OP suggests are still valid, mind...but you'd need to think about whether you and your bandmates are artistically on the same wavelength.
2. Anotther vote for Hercules, but I'd use beefier screws and wallplugs to fit them rather than the ones that .come in the box.
3. I'd consider putting it before the overdrives - I've found cutting some extreme bottom end before overdriving/distorting can help a sweeter tone. What's an SVT Driver btw ?
4. Maybe the advertiser's a really boring guitarist, so wants someone in the band who's got prior experience.
5. I've heard Dylan's gone electric as well
6. Agree with all the above. The man's a wonder.
7. It depends on whether the inrush current will fry the fast blow fuse. It may just blow as soon as you turn it on. I'd say give it a whirl, but I'm no valve amp expert...see what others say.
8. MEC stuff can be very expensive - I know EMG to a bass-and-treble-on-a-concentric-knob, but so do Artec, who I've used in the past and liked a lot...cheaper too !
9.
Hi All, I got this lovely bubinga/all wenge neck corvette today. Plays great, sounds great, only the preamp is really weird! It acts more like a parametric - and the vol knob is not push/pull (were they back in mid-90s?)
It sounds very much like that's what it is - the control with the notch is the boost level and the other is the frequency. Perhaps it's an aftermarket EQ...does the control on the front look the as other prolines ? Looking at that picture of the control cavity, that volume pot looks odd - not the same as the warwicks I've seen iirc
10. Bought a tremollo pedal from Lenny, top chap to deal with Many thanks
11.
You think with as much effort as that guy is putting into those drums he would be able to walk across a stage without breaking his leg wouldn't you?
And...on sticks....Dave Grohl....!
12.
You and everyone else, apparently no one knows
And thanks for the tip WoodinBlack. Not really a band I know that well at all.
13. PM'd re Trelicopter
14. Wow, 20 replies and I still have no idea what song anyone is talking about.
15.
If you decide postage is an option, I'd like first go if you don't get a local pickup please ?? Cheers, Sy.
Sorry to disappoint, I'm going to hang onto this for the mo.
16. I've used Gemini Pickups in the past and they're great pickups and very nice to deal with http://www.geminipickups.co.uk/
17.
This idea of keeping notes so you know in advance that when strings will die can only lead to one thing, boredom. How will you ever know what dull strings sound like again if you never hear them as dull. Life has its ups and downs. It is part of what makes life so interesting. When you have a bad gig/practice with bad strings you then have the new strings to look forward to. Perfection is not perfect. Just concentrate on the playing.
Okaaaaaay, it's just a list....with some dates on, I'm not trying to deny wabi sabi or anything !
18. It's like a cock block for tone, like when the guitarists amp is too loud for you to hear yourself properly/
19.
I was going to use pen and paper!
Mine was a bit of paper orginally - a bit of graph paper !
20.
I bet Lemmy doesn't have a bass spreadsheet. In fact, I bet he doesn't have a computer.
I bet he doesn't restring his own basses either.
21. I have a txt file on my music PC that records some info about my bases - their serial numbers, date of last string change, what strings, any major mods I've done, any big alteration in their set-ups, nothing exhaustive I don't think I have an awful memory !
22. Sorry folks,I'm not going to be able to make it - have a great time, and I look forward tosome pictures
23. Wow, how cool is that ? Lucky chap !
