1. I know a member called xilddx has his chrome streamer on sale here a couple of years ago....the search function should dig up the thread.
2.
We've had three dep guitarists and two drummers. We supplied them with studio recordings of the songs which meant that we had to temporarily drop some of the newer material and resurrect a couple of oldies as that was what we had available. The guitarists also had tabs for most of the songs that were done by a previous full time member who had produced them to originally learn the set and which he kindly donated to us when he had to leave the band. Interestingly the guitarists were all excellent and did it for free because they liked the music and wanted to help us out and do the gigs. Consequently one of them is now a full-time Terrortone. The drummers both wanted paying and were on the whole less good. And as I said previously one of them managed to mess up the single in two different ways on the two occasions he played it.
Educational place this, thanks.
3. Interesting, I bought some replacement Badass saddles from the US via Ebay, suspecting they'd be 'unofficial' parts...I wonder if they were from an Omega ? They fitted and looked the same and sounded fine. I was curious if they were the same material so I weighed them compared with a saddle from a Badass I got years ago, and they were exactly the same - as good a test I could come up with at home.
4. Given that the 'tone' comes from an changing electrical field across the terminals of the output jack, and that changes as soon as the jack is plugged in... ...I prefer the sound of an unplugged bass. That's pure tone, right there.
5. I dunno, the Great British Bake Off finishes and everyone gets antsy.
6.
I had a session with the guitarist before we went to a studio. He effectively taught me the bass parts alongside the recordings and I took notes. With the other band I had a few recordings and they weren't bothered what lines I came up with. They knew the score and I was helping them out. The more dep work you do, the quicker you become at either learning the tune during the first verse and chorus or creating a scratch pad of well known songs. There's a reason a lot of successful bands on the circuit play the standards.
OK, thanks for the info This thread again underlines for me how much everybody has a different take on the whole gigging experience, it's very educational to read of how it works for other people.
7. I've used my EBS Micro Bass II many times for sending a good 'amped' signal to the FOH, it's a very versatile bit of it....but it is quite expensive. I've got an MXR Bass Preamp (as suggested by Naerharu) and it sounds superb - very clean and a very solid bottom end. There's the whole slew of SansAmp products that you could check out as well. I'd be inclined to come up with a shopping list - do you want compression ? A speaker simulator ? Sweepable mids ? Just a good simple three-band EQ ? It would help narrow down a large field.
8.
I've depped for two. Not a particularly easy thing to do! I did three rehearsals for the first one, and they kept changing arrangements for a couple of songs each week. .
I'm curious how they ran it - did they give you some recordings to learn from ? Chord structures ? Actual sheet music ?
9. I can't ever recall seeing an originals band (who I knew the line-up of, so I would know) using a dep.
10.
Part of the free speech movement at Berkeley, no doubt.
Aye Aye Admiral !
11.
Mormons?!
Honestly, it's getting so a man can't even quote from Star Trek movies any more !
12. Hiram K. Hackenbacker ?
13.
..this is a monstrosity: http://alembic.com/c...s/411/76710.jpg
They did a lot of LDS in the 60s
14.
Ooh look..! A bee..!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAhuSDRIDHE
15. Looks like the same design, but this is the first I've heard of them.
16.
Thoughts?........
De-caf ?
17. Nice little pedal, was using it quite a bit before being superceeded by a VFE comp. Limiter, Enhancer and Color (EQ) in one peda with the added bonus of looking like a Technics hi-fi. [s]£25[/s] posted.
18.
What do you think? Blue
I think it depends on the bands, the people, the location, a myriad other things...
19. Planet "Oh my god, look at that traincrash of a bass, I wonder if anyone will buy it" ? You'd hope...
20.
Drummer in one of my bands is a big fan of Ringo. Reckons a lot of his technique is due to him being left handed but playing a right handed kit - he starts off round his kit leading with his left, rather than his right. Or something.
...in the way he moves ?
21. I must admit I've never checked the truss rod on any bass I've bought, but I do check the action and amount of relief. If they looked too far out I think my spidey sense would start tingling...not the whole story obviously, but as much is reasonable to ask.
22. So says the talentless ex-tub thumper of the Jesus and Mary Chain.
23.
Most dub players won't use an octave, and just boost the lows and cut the highs.
Agreed. If fact if I were looking for a pedal for instant dub (band name anyone ?), I'd prolly look at an envelope filter - you can usually tweak them to act as low-pass filters that pump out nothing but bass. EDIT: didn't see your post about the fx25,duewheresmybass
24. That thing I like doing that you don't do is better than that thing you do that I don't like doing.... So Nurrrr !
