wrist ache

Warm up on bass first ? Excuse to play more guitar ?
  2.
I'm going to see them at the Tower of Song, Birmingham tomorrow. I know there will be a few bassists there. Any BCers going to the Brum gig?
Let us know how it is...
  3.
Sideman or not unless it's the star of the band any member can be replaced relatively easy. Blue
I think it's fair to say that that depends on the band.
  4. Anyone going ? I'll be there with Mrs. Pook...I suspect there'll be more than three bassists in the room
  5. Bumper to bumper. Brilliant stuff !
  6.
I know the Trombone players do.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJxCdh1Ps48
  7. I wonder if the woodwind section of the London Philharmonic consider themselves side(wo)men or members of a scratch band ?
  8.
Pah ... that's nothing compared to "Must be committed.".
i know...it's dumb....how do they expect me to answer the ad ....I'm only allowed crayons, and my hands....this jacket only does up at the back.
  9.
...and this is just a throwaway line...
We have a winner. I'd imagine some also put it in as it restates their own attitude to the band. People sometimes say things to themselves when they seem to be talking to others.
  10.
Can someone give the definition of sideman and pick-up band?
I was getting confused too !
  11.
I will make sure our sound person has my horns off. Blue
Deffo a plan. Also, if you're getting a surge in volume, what's preventing you from reducing the volume of the distortion pedal(s) ?
  12. If your cab has a tweeter you may want to turn it off. Apart from that, overdrive and distortion usually mean gain, so some increase in noise par for the course imho. Small price to pay for the roar of a nicely messed-up bass.
  13. The Nail Will Burn is an awesome song...and with you 100% on the bass sound. Still got a huge soft spot for Loop...I must have seen them a dozen times back in the depths of the past Neil MaKay used a RAT live...keep the gain quite low and the filter up and you'll get close. The only downside is the slight loss of bass - I used to use a blend pedal to dial some bass back in but now I have a custom Rat from Butterfly Effects what nails it...if you'll pardon the pun. Right, off to turn 'The Nail Will Burn' up really loud...oh, those power chords...
Hasn't bothered me so far. I do have to check the settings each time I set up tho.
Good to know....thanks.

Just a minor concern...those chickenhead knobs look very easy to knock. How stiff are the pots ? (Fnaar, etc)
  16.
However, if your neighbours bang on the wall or call the environmental health out at activities of a genuinely modest volume then hosting one is proably not for you! Horses for courses, YMMV and all that stuff.
Of course, of course....I'm not going to labour my point.
  17.
And actually significantly less noisy than having the music on at a birthday party or watching an action movie on telly.
Well, I have had neighbours who have had strange ideas of what qualifies as a sensible volume for both activities ! I think as long as people realise that their houses or flats are just that and not clubs or music venues then it's fine, but you just need to take a stroll round my neighbourhood on a Friday night to find people who seem to think otherwise.
  18. Good tips there for a chromatic progression in any style of music too ! Thanks.
  19. I was going to comment, but seeing as I have no intention of watching it.....
  20. The bridge isn't right is it ? Those extra forward screws ?
  21. Maybe I'm getting old, but the idea of staging gigs in your home seems a little unfair to your neighbours unless they're fairly small/quiet acts. ...or am I missing something ?
  22.
I'd guess there'd be much less "You can't kill me...look in your heart" and much more "I hate you, Butler", or they'd actually tell you who you were going to see...
Stands. Applauds.
  23. I had a Dean Rhapsody 8-string for a while and really liked it - played well and sounded good..
  24. Aaah, I see. A bit like a Secret Cinema - you hope for 'Miller's Crossing' but worry you'll end up with 'On the Buses' ?
