1.
....as the guitarist / singer isn't taking any notice of me and the drummer...
What sort of notice aren't they taking ? Not joking....it's a serious question.
 2.
Yes you are. I love the creative process of writing and recording, I always have. I have no illusions about making it (I haven't since my mid 20s), I simply enjoy it for what it is. I am looking at getting an original band together again at some point in the future, but even if that never happens, I will continue writing and recording for my own pleasure.
Very much so, I'm glad others feel the same way I do...in fact many of the musicians I know do this.
 3.
I bought my very first bass and its a Deko Harley Benton JB-75NA. I could not find anything wrong with it, at all. The action was fine and the intonation was fine. Electronics work fine. The tuners work fine. The neck is fine out of the box. I just had to tune it. Not sure why they sold this as Decoration Only for 42 Euros (Im glad they did). Here is also a little sound check for what its worth (Im a newbie so ... ) https://soundcloud.c...rect-bass-no-fx
Wow...nice looking bass !
 4.
So many people write about how they dislike gigging....
I've know some people say they're selective about what gigs they play, but that's not the same as disliking gigging. Did I miss something ?
 5. I'd feel like I was intruding to be honest... I think the only time I've done something similar is when I spoke to Spoombung at one of his gigs... although if he'd not been on BC I'd never have done it. Even then I felt a bit of a fool !
 6. I'd buy a cheap 2 or 3 inpiut mixer with XLR, phantom power and a phono in... It may not be as hi-tech as you can get, but it's a useful bit of kit, generally. I'm always a little wary of buying things that only do one job - I've got an Alesis MiniMix 4...it's a USB music interface as well !
 7. I can't change mine....for I am in love with acid girl.
 8. Well, that was very enjoyable, two sets from Steve Lawson, two from Jonas Hellborg and a little jam at the end. Mrs. Pook enjoyed it too.
 9.
If I'd known that was the way you had to use them, I'd have turned them all down to -8.
Turn that EQ frown upside down. :
 10.
It only takes one to change the bulb.....but another six to ask how much it weighs....
..and if it's any good for metal
 11.

12.
When you are the moon, you don't change your avatar.
I think you're hiding something....maybe a dark side we've not seen yet.
 13.
Mind you, the "hansome bearded ex-librarian" does contradict the pic I guess
Odd you should say that, but all ex-librarians get a new identity...once you leave The Silent Service it's a new passport, new history, the works. When you read everything you sometimes end up knowing too much.
 14. People do realise that my avatar isn't a picture of me....right ?
 15. I bet the settings you inherited sound huge outside the car. Those massive kicks and tizz weren't for the edification of the occupants...they're there to show how large the drivers perceives his penis to be.
 16.
....maybe even in disguise . Anyway, I saw them tonight, and it was truly amazing.
Excellent....very much looking forward to tomorrow.
 17. Unless a few are going, but don't want to admit it.
 18.
And the James one illustrates boost and cut in a passive tone stack.
A few of them boost if memory serves me.
 19.
... but maybe you can't hear the difference.
You can taste it....
 20. I've just switched from using a preamp with an active EQ (an Ampeg) to a passive one (a Trace Elliot), and I'd say that the passive EQ doesn't give the instant gratification of an active one, in that sometimes you need to get a boost by cutting elsewhere and then turning up the gain, and that there's some interplay between the controls.... However, the passive EQ does seem more....I dunno, 'musical', for want of a better term... I'm still learning and haven't done any very loud stuff with the new preamp, but I'm warming to it. If you're electronically minded then downloading Duncan's Tone Stack Calculator and playing with the controls will give you an idea of how a Passive EQ functions. There's a few different designs, the 'Fender' model is the same as Trace Elliot and Alembic use in their preamps.
 21.
Have other BC'ers had similar experiences? Or am i just over ruminating?
Happens to me all the time ! I watch someone else playing bass and wonder why I've missed all the good stuff that they're playing. I think it's natural to some extent and at the very least, more healthy than thinking you're better than everyone else. But as has been said above, the best thing you can do is play bass as well as you can in the way that pleases you...that's having your own style. That's being a free man EDIT: I think I have a solution - we get together and watch each other play.....we /both/ can't be right !
 22.
Solo bass is something of an anathema to most guys on here. If you need proof, look for the number of bass solo threads that pop up on here regularly. There's actually one going at the moment.
Is that so ? Fair enough, each to their own. I thought I'd give it a whirl...I've seen a bit of what Steve Lawson does on video and someone as highly-regarded as Jonas Hellborg has to be worth checking out in the flesh at least once. The venue's great as well - Mrs Pook and I have seen some really good gigs there.
 23. Nobody ? Wow, I thought it would be the kind of thing at least a few BCsters would go to.
