2.
Are we just talking the elasticated toweling things here?
I'm trying not to think.....of.......it........
3. He should have made it..... wait for it...wait for eeeeeeeeeet ! In a silent way ?
4. Fret...don't fret...just stay away from the headbands. Ethnic beanie, tea cosy or jazz beret if you must.....even a pork-pie hat, but for the love of God....no headbands.
5.
You're obviously forgetting Mark Knopfler.......
I think we were all trying to... but thank you for bringing this thread back on track.
6.
One of the things I like about BC is the way people can express their beliefs and have an intelligent discussion without resorting to personal attacks. I rather feel that this thread, as it has grown, shows us at less than our best.
It happens, sadly. But JellyKness was right about headbands.
7.
I think he went downhill after Rockin Robin?
Oh lordy. Guffaw ? That I did
8.
Indeed. Apart from Bjorn Borg, no one ever looks good in a headband.
Word.
You preferred him wearing the tea cozy then?
Oh absolutely. It may have been Jazz, but you'd gotta have standards.
9. Could it be you're hearing the EQ and comression radio stations apply as a matter of course to what they broadcast ?
10. How do I put this ? I can understand how influential he is and appreciate his talent, his legacy, and so on....but that whole headband thing. Sorry, it just kills it for me.
11.
Hi folks, Thank you to everyone for your input - its been really helpful when it comes to thinking things through. In the end we managed to call in a couple of favours and it looks as if we can put the whole thing on for free. We managed to get a sound-engineer who needs to do a live show for his degree course at the local music college and so offered to cover for free. He comes complete with a nice PA courtesy of his college too which is fantastic. We've also managed to negotiate a free venue connected to the same college - we keep the door money and they get the bar money which is fine with us. All in all, it looks as if we're going to be able to run the whole night at no cost to any of the bands. We want to encourage everyone possible to come and check us out so we're not charging a door fee which is fine - none of us expect to make money from the band right now anyhow. It's been a bit of a nightmare to organise but it looks to be a happy ending all the same.
That's fantastic news Remember to return those favours, they're the kind of thing that keeps a music scene going.
12. Another vote for going for it - as others have said, £40 isn't a lot between you, it sounds like fun and you might make some good contacts.
13. Can't see 'em headlining the Reading Festival.
14. Is it any good for porcelain ?
15. Pending by the usuals
16. Even if you're not a fan of squlchy synth sounds, the octaver alone makes it worth the price. The pedal's been well used, but works fine - bit of paint missing from the front, rubber foot removed from the back and velcro attached. Come with box, box candy, original receipt and the rubber foot, should you wish to attach it. £25 posted, UK only
17. It's a great bass, I wish I could afford to buy it back.
18. Thanks :0 If anyone's got any tips about using Danish Oil then they'd be most welcome. Beedster's been most generous with advice as it's a bass he sold recently that got me interested in Danish Oil finishes, and so kick-started this project, which has been on the to-do list for years.
19. Fine-looking instruments.
20. Picked this up from Guitarbuild last week as part of their 'Black Friday' sale I'm planning a pretty simple finish - a good sanding and then Danish Oil. It's a lovely bit of wood in the flesh and I fancy a change form my usual black. I've got most the parts in my bits box, and here it is with a Squier CV Jazz neck which may end up being the neck I use for the time being. I fancy something block-inlayed at some point though. Not sure about the black (Hammerite, natch) control plate yet, but it completes the picture.
21. They're a bunch of loons.
22.
Is it any good for postmodernism?
I'd say not - given the Picasso influence I'd say it's intent is firmly in the modernist school.
23. Great pedals, I've got one of their Big Reverbs and it's top quality GLWTS
