Thanks for the reviews folks, sounds fabby.
2. I used to listen to music all the time, then I was a librarian for 13 years and came to appreciate quiet a lot more ! I think being able to enjoy silence or quiet is important. I'll listen to an hour or two of music a day, but very much enjoy the not listening to music as well.
3.
There are some guys that just don't like gigging.
Well, that depends on the gig !
4. I read the posts on this thread and realise that I've had a hugely different experience of gigging, on and off, for 25 years to many here. Just shows you that everyone gigs for different reasons and with different expectations.
5. Cool, giving it a whirl right now.
6. Better singer - the length of time it took to mull it over was so small it even doesn't have a name
7. I'd love to get my Fender Precision back....I sold it in about 1989 and have kicked myself ever since. Easy to spot - it's black/black with a maple board....and has my National Insurance no scratched on the underside of the scratchplate !
8. I presume the capacitor(s) have been switched to allow more bass through the circuit.

DIY Effects

I took the plunge and bought some cheap breadboard and jumpers which has led to a lot of tinkering. I built a FuzzDog Wooly Mammoth clone a while back and fitted an extra pot in it which I eventually removed. Not liking the spare orifice I put a LPB-1 circuit together (tiny bit of spare vero - I was chuffed at my neatness !) and put that in as a pre-gain boost. It sounds really nice. I wonder if it sounds better because the output impedance of the LPB-1 is quite high, so when the fuzz is in a buffered chain it's more like it's being driven by a pickup than a buffer ? Either way, thought I'd share.
10. How about a speaker simulator ? I've used an EBS MicroBass II for years to send my overdriven/fuzzy sound to the PA for many years to great success.
11. Good news - I dug out the emails and the pedal's on the way back to Sound Affects in Ormskirk. I'm surprised there's not some kind of overvoltage protection in there - the voltage converter chip can only take a max of 10.5v. Not much headroom really.
12.
bummer mate,warranty still an option?
Possibly... I got it as a B-stock from a online shop, can't remember who....just need to find the emails !! EDIT: Thing is, I unplugged the Soul Food to rearrange my pedalboard to see if I could fit another pedal in....and now I can. Hmmm.
13.
no way...it does mention overloading in the manual, but i just though it precautionary. thats a bit crap
Yeah, I'm pretty miffed to be honest, mainly cos it a great little pedal which I no longer own. I guess repair's an option, but it's SMT so not easy. A little research later and it seems the 7660 converter really doesn't like overvoltage one bit. Not been my week
14. Careful when you plug them in - I just cooked mine (there's a crater where the magic smoke in the voltage converter escaped). Deep-fried Soul Food
15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xrZ61cuKLk 3 or 4 basses ?
16. What do you mean by 'soapbar' pickups ? If they're not the same size as standard jazz pickups then you may need to rout new cavities.
17.
It has always bothered me why Capitol Records in the USA put 'RECORDED IN ENGLAND' on Beatles singles.
Maybe the 50Hz hum confused them ?
18.
That's fine, as long as each output 'sees' a higher impedance at the next input, there should be no problem.
Yep, or as I remember it... High into Low - No go, Low into High - You'll fly.
19.
Aha! Even I can manage that! Thanks.
Do let me know how you get on - I'd love to see the results
20.
i what way tweak it? Ta
I'd imagine you'd need to fiddle with the gain of the amp to get it to work right
21. It's lovely - I've always been put off by the tales of chunky necks
22.
When the lightweight head vibrations became unpleasant for me, instead of turning to further medication I just quit smoking the bongs.
Word
23. I'd get the f**k away from these people, they sound like a right bunch of shits. So you're self-depreciating and, by the sounds of it, not exactly brimming over with self-confidence ? Is that a licence for people to treat you badly ? No, but it sounds like these people think so. They're bullies, pure and simple. Being in a band is meant to be fun....find another band. p.s Given their attitude to your contribution, I'd not bother telling this lot that your were leaving, just stop turning up.
