1. It's turned into a lefty.
2. If the current relief is still forcing you to curb your playing style you might want to raise the action a smidge. Try a 1/4 turn on each grub.
3. Hey that worked out really nice. I love your methodical approach to the project too... you have teh good science.
4. The only real solution is to sand it out flush and blend it into the surrounding area.
5.
Status flats are really good value, but are pretty old school & thumpy (they're probably the Picato ones repackaged actually). Might not be what you're looking for if you're new to flats, but I like them. La Bella or Thomastik tend to be the best all-rounders I've used. Chromes are much brighter - they sound like roundwounds at first, but they mellow with age. Unfortunately, all of these sets cost a lot more than rounds - I've found it an expensive business trying out flats! Cheers, B.
I've always found TI's to be mid focused while the Status flats have an open quality with plenty of top. I am using both at the moment - the TI's for old school and the Status for a more contemporary sound. I recommend the Status Hotwire line to everyone, they are fantastic... oh and they are made by Status themselves btw.
6. Try flipping the polarity of the J pup. Maybe it's just out of phase with your P pup.
7. I got one for xmas too... and also somehow ended up with a Snark as well. Fortunately this odd coincidence provided me with a great opportunity to pit them head to head in series of rigorous tests. Well... I clipped them simultaneously on a bass then a guitar and looked at them while I tuned up. me humming an E ^ Although it has less features than the Snark and the display is weirdly 90° off, the important thing is it is faster and more accurate... oh yeah, and way more discreet.
8. It's true that the ACG takes a little longer to get your head around if you are just used to vol/tone but by heck it's worth it in the end.
9. For years, the most amazing players with fantastic techniques etc have gotten by with using 4's. The only thing that has changed now is the style of music and how it is reproduced. You should go for it if the music requires it. When I listen some contemporary rock tunes which use a 5 (or more) string, I hardly notice it as it becomes integral to the sound. But often I'll hear a piece of music in say gospel or funk styles and the bassist moves onto the B and I'll be like "oh that's a 5 string" and I find it distracting. I experimented with a 5er in one of my bands any my band-mates were like "yes, that's the sound". There was no turning back.... well... until I left the band. Then I was in a band who tuned to drop CGCF(AD) mostly, so a 5 string became utterly useless and I went back to a specially set up 4. I've seen bassists use the B as a thumb-rest right the way through the set on a 5er and it makes you wonder.... what's it there for, the (alleged) kudos? The transition is very easy.. unless you are one of those dearies who can't get on with a neck that's a smidge bigger or smaller than what you are used to.
10.
... Concert chairman, as we are about to go on stage, " My Dad just died and I've found out today my wife has cancer,.anyway, .enjoy yourselves" He was pi**ed by 7. 30. ....
Poor guy
11. I find that those with an opinion, tend to describe the tone of a neck based on the colour of the fingerboard wood rather than it's actual density which if anything should make the most difference - so according to accepted popular [s]ramblings[/s] belief maple = bright and rosewood = dark... but I have yet to hear someone describe an ebony board sounding brighter than maple and yet it is infinitely more brittle and dense. I have swapped two similar necks, one had maple the other rosewood. There was a difference in tone between the two. One neck had a better fit. I believe herein lies the real answer to the audible nuances.
12.
I love Precisions. But I wouldn't use that one to prop open the outhouse door.
Looks like the neck has been used to get rid of a 3 flusher.
13.
Why does a one pup bass have a selector switch
Kill switch? There are a couple less likely things I could think of too.
14. From my g/f I got a Planet Waves NS Mini. Absolutely by chance, from her sister & b/f I got a Snark SN-2. As a more than content Polytune user I'm slightly bemused as to how this could have happened.... On the plus side it has given me a brilliant chance to put them both head to head with each other... literally.
15. Oh the horror! Please don't let him do it. All that will happen is that he will devalue it.
16. Hi welcome to the forum. It might be handy to know a few more details. What make is the bass you are upgrading and how do you want to change it tonally? Also can you explain a bit more why you "sunk" the neck pickup. You said it was because you are more used to the P pickup. The confusing thing is that the J neck pup and P pups are more or less in the same positions.
17.
Ad is "no longer available", at least to me.
Yep it's been deleted.
18. Surely, seeing as this odd turn of events have presented themselves, it should automatically be offered to either of the other 2 who contacted you offering 350.... this of course ignores the established protocol of dealing first with the 1st person who contacted you with an offer of 350 (1 in 3 chance they weren't).... particularly as at no point did you stipulate shipping conditions which would nullify any competing offers. As it stands this is still appears to be an auction because you have stated you will take 350 from one person but should an offer closer to your preferred 400 comes up you will take that instead. Just to clarify, no one is annoyed and there are no fights. This forum is proud to exist with a level of self policing... before the mods come in and cast things in stone that is. Rules are in place, rules which in fact came about specifically because of an incident pertaining to (or an accusation of) bidding in a FS thread. If your auction style thread slipped through the net a precedence might be set for others to follow, hence the interest from members. Happy Xmas.
19. Awesome Peter. What configuration of P/MM have you gone for under there?
20.
is it though?
Most of these descriptions are subjective (like AAAA maple top etc. - oh yeah, on whos scale?) and are pretty much in the eye of the beholder. And as we can see the wood and angle of cut on yours has definitely produced some nice figuring plus you are doubly lucky in that both pieces used have a complimentary figuring (EBMM tend not to bookmatch their wood) that has come out on the front producing an all over flamed appearance. If it were a flamed billet custom job you'd be looking at double the price.

Bought a used ashtray off Tim. Top banana all round. Many thanks mate. Rich.
22. Don't forget the nuts that hold the pots & jack socket on.
23. 1200 will produce an almost polished finish. For a satin finish you want to finish with 5-800 grade.
24. Having seen your pics in the FS section I must say I think the value has been affected quite a bit. The removal has resulted in quite a lot of tang damage and it's beyond having the slots filled with maple etc.... getting it re-fretted will salvage it.
