1. Well the story about selling for someone else holds some water as the pick-up/viewing address is 2 miles up the road from the address they are offering the same options for the Squier Strat they are selling. The Ric owner has had it for over 30 years.... could they be internet/ebay illiterate and therefore need assistance selling? Perhaps. I'm going to go with it is what it says it is... a restoration. Who knows what original parts are left.
 2.
I'll take one * *As long as it comes with a free bass attached
Aye no bother pal. * *Just send me your card details.
 3. For anyone that's interested, here's the one I made for myself. I used birdseye as I knew once nitro'ed it would match the aged colour of my 1970's P bass better than the brighter ordinary maple would... although it does look a bit "boutique" close up.
 4.
Good point about the acetone. What about alcohol? I had thought of the cavities but I shielded them all not long ago. Not to worry for now anyway, I shall do some proper research when/if I actually get around to it. I'm rubbish with paint of any kind and I think such a finish would require skills I don't possess. But, it is only a cheapo Bass (Aria Pro II, MAB 20/5, Magna Series) and if I were to just go for it and experiment, it's the one to do it on. We'll see.
I'll bet you never shielded out the neck pocket though.
 5.
Think it's so you can leave a comment as to why you deleted the post, if necessary
Ah ok. Fair enough.
 6.
how much are these and would you say they were better than Alpine earplugs? Does it matter if you don't get custom fittings?
Dunno man. Like I say, have a look on ebay. I've bought 2 set now and they were about 7 quid plus postage. Never had the Alpine ones.
 7.
Mine haven't changed shape at all, and that includes being sat on various times by my fat arse.... Liam
That's the best endorsement of anything I have ever heard of.
 8. So what is the text box in the conformation pop-up for?
 9.
I don't like thumb rests.
I was the same. I tried several over the years and they just always seemed to get in the way.... then I came up with the idea of making a half height one. Hey presto it worked perfectly. It just feels like resting my thumb on a pickup cover like I'm used to. If anyone wants me to custom make them a half height one (maple, birdseye maple or ebony) get in touch.
 10.
Thanks very much. Do the different ways make a different sound? James
No, not as far as I'm aware.
 11. Even though the P is by far the easiest to wire up there are a couple of possible ways you can do it. Just pick one you fancy. This one is quite a clear example (don't worry if the component values are different to yours)... The copper plate is for hum shielding... as a P bass has a humbucking pup and shouldn't hum it's not essential but seeing as you have one just solder it to any earth that's handy (a pot casing for example).
 12.
Well, they certainly mould to the shape of your ear and remould easily. So it must be just as easy to make a hole in and fit it around the filter. Ridiculously cheap, so got to be worth a try. I already have the £150 jobs but am bound to lose one/both eventually. I'll have a fiddle later and report back.
Ah so they don't set solid. That's a bugger.
 13.
I got something similar for travelling http://www.boots.com...-3-pairs_39424/. They are a bit like blutack but silicon. Out of the packet they are too effective for me to wear for music, especially as I am rather deaf anyway. I wonder if you could make a hole in them and fit filters? I may try a diabolical experiment.
Yep that's what I was getting at. I used to do a lot of shooting and I have some quite nice pro compact filters that I think would work well with custom fitted plugs (instead of the bright orange Lt. Uhura style ones they are in just now) but f*ck paying £150+ to get a set made.
 14.
They're solid, which is a bit of a downer really, as i would like to be able to change the attenuation because they sometimes take off a bit too much. I need to get another set really, as the one for my right didn't mold properly and it doesn't extend into my ear canal so doesn't block out as much as the other, but for £15 i can't complain. Liam
That's a shame. The one thing with my ER-20's is that they get a bit itchy after a while and I start fiddling with them. I think it's just because of the fit. I don't use them on stage but I use them at rehearsals or when I'm out at other people's gigs or just in town in general (I find they quell the worst of the horridly compressed mp3 files that get played in pubs and clubs) but I don't want to make a big deal out of them or draw any attention to them by fiddling with them because once you explain what they are for folk just think you are either obsessively geeky or just plain mental.
 15.
I use these myself, i changed from Hearos Rock n Roll as they didn't fit right and didn't make enough of a difference. These seem to work a lot better, although i have only played one or two gigs with them, and used them at one (Rise Against, so not quiet) and they made a hell of a diffrence there. Liam
Interesting. Could you put your own filters in these or are they just basically solid?
 16. Will it be coming to Moffat now so the lads can have a listen?
 17.
Think you answered your own question...
Yep I already knew the answer all right.
 18. Elacin ER 20's. I never leave home without them. Have a look on ebay.
 19. If it's a rosewood fingerboard go for the defret (it's a simpler job), if it's a maple one, choose one of the other options.
 20.
The reverse is true , if I where doing it underhand I'd have pm'd in secret without posting You also state that I was asking for a price that no one would be privy to? No I just simply asked for a price, and surely anyway else interested could ask as the information was no available in the thread You must be very bored today to make issue with this
Calm down mate. I actually think Neepheid is trying to help here. Not that it could have gone any other way, as the OP has stated it was trades only deal and you yourself have stated that you don't have anything to trade with. To be fair you did ask for a price to be PM'd to you which in essence does make it info that no one else is privy to. Yes anyone else could request a price too but who's to say (hypothetically) that they all get PMd the same price - the whole point of making the price public is that every one is treated fairly. Let's move on. All that's happened is that 2 guy weren't fully aware of the rules. No one died.
Heh, you can't blame the ebony fingerboards as that's what a lot of boutiques basses have, doesn't mean they will contribute to movement. Most had strings too. Ebony is the hardest, most dense wood known to man and even sinks in water. Its not going to move more than another wood, especially as a thin laminate.
And it's heavy oil content (which presumably helps deflect moisture) makes it difficult to work with... not to mention it's self-defence properties - it makes me itch like a bastard after I've been working with it all day.
 22.
I'd look at the Lakland Duck Dunn's as well. Brilliant P basses
Raising that old chestnut "[s]How[/s] Why on earth do you pick a Fender Precision?" when there are many other arguably better offerings available.
 23. I personally would clear coat it, others might prefer an oiled finish, either are good but obviously you get more all round protection from lacquer ( clear coat ) and an oiled finish will affect your final colour.
 24. It's up to you. Pinched off the web for quickness...
Audio and Linear taper pots have the same total resistance but differ in which position of rotation the pot will reach the 50% value. Linear pots are usually marked with a B or Lin (examples 250KB, B250K, 250K Lin) and will reach 50% of its total resistance in the 50% rotation point. Audio taper pots are usually marked with an A or Aud (examples 500KA, A500K 500K Aud) and will decrease most of the resistance in the last 50% of the rotation. This can give a more gradual audio reduction is some cases. Some manufactures like Fender use Audio taper pots for both volume and tone controls. Gibson on the other hand uses linear taper pots for both volume and tone. And still others use Linar taper pots for volume and Audio taper pots for tone. However, if a problem of exists where a volume or tone pot has no effect on the sound, try a changing the taper.
25.
Yeah was thinking along them lines too. Should be an interesting task. Woodstain is woodstain right? There isnt specific ones for guitars etc.
Well some are more like a gooey coloured varnish. The beauty of the alcohol based ones is that it all evaporates off and you basically are left with coloured bare wood which you can then seal however you like.... also you can dilute or mix it to your desired colour.
