1. I love The Who but no contest for me - The Beatles have much better vocals, both individually and when blended together.
2.
It seems strange to advertise on gumtree for a jazz bass player, surely any player worth their salt is already connected with the community?
Maybe that's why he wants someone else? Too many people already committed with projects etc.
3. Exit Stage Left is Rush at their best for me. Friggin love Xanadu!
4. Metallica 'Hit The Lights' off Kill 'Em All. That fade in - wow!
5. Love Jaco with Joni but can take or leave his solo stuff/Weather Report etc
6. Camel's 'Rhayader Goes To Town' off the Snow Goose album. Massive synth and huge chords!
7. Squier Classic Vibe Jazz bass - pretty sure you could get one used for under £200. Mine was £199!
8. Amazing player. Love the way he arpeggiates his chords and picks out nice counterpoint notes for melodies etc. Wonderful
9. I wouldn't do it. Spend that night practicing as a band. Will never hurt and can only bring benefits further down the line. Gigging experience is great but not at cost, and if it's going to cause friction then best to leave it.
10. I see a lot of bands using these types of stand-mounted floodlight nowadays. One per side is plenty and they are DMX controllable too.
11. Rush - Take a Friend Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever The way these songs end always leave me wanting more!
12. Yeah I was going to say that maybe they are contracted for 75 minutes or something with a set curfew, so only go on 75 minutes before.
13.
Any autographs?
All he's got is a photograph.
14. I'd say Ashdown based on their great warranty and customer service alone.
15. I much prefer gigging on New Years Eve than going out as a punter myself. Inevitably, the most comfortable place in a manic bar or club is on the stage. That, plus the fees are usually 1.5x or 2x the standard! Looking forward to it.
16.
I remember her performance at The Brits - Rihanna did something like 5 costume changes in her performance, dancers all over the place, then Adele just stood there, singing (and crying) along to the guy on the piano and completely stole the show.
I read an article once about how Adele wasn't even scheduled to take part on that bill. Lady Gaga cancelled last minute, and as Adele was one of the few acts who was available at short notice, she was asked to fill in. That was the genesis of a wave of mainstream beige pop music of which Ed Sheeran was another notable beneficiary.
17. Love his bassline in Tusk
18. Do they make bronze flats? I bet flats would sound awesome on an acoustic bass. Or even tapewounds!
19. I think playing bass is like ascending flights of stairs. Sometimes you reach a plateau, but with a little direction you can find the next step and keep progressing.
20. Had an opportunity to see Pentangle with Bert Jansch and John Renbourn a few years ago in Royal Festival Hall, London, but turned it down due to expensive flights. Wish I had seen them when they were alive. Fantastic musicians
21. Michael - you should not be allowed to post such graphic images on this forum! Another amazing bass. Health to enjoy. Looking forward to the customary groove video!
22. What cab are you using? The treble control on the head is set at 4khz which won't give you zingy top end in most cases. The head is tuned to sound vintage so maybe not the best choice if you are after loads of treble.
23. DR strings are a popular choice for 'Ray users. Have you considered flatwounds? They would certainly tame the natural top end and give you a nice low end thud.
24. Bruno Mars ranks within the top 3 gigs I've ever been to - surprisingly. Couldn't believe the quality of musicianship, arrangements, choreography, lighting and staging etc. Well impressive!
