1. Cool! I'm on tour on the East Coast at the same time as you. Love getting over to the States! My advice is to enjoy every minute. Take lots of photos as they will be great to show your kids and grandkids. Make the most of your days off i.e. don't waste them with hangovers (speaking from experience!) Lastly - don't be too annoyed when the bass amp you spec turns out to be a 30 year old Peavey instead of your preferred Mesa Boogie or whatever. Give it stacks and before you know it you'll be rebooked!
2. What sort of band are you trying to put together? I guess it is a case of networking with the right people. Fastfude is a dead duck! Facebook have a few local music groups - might be worth a try?
3. I make about 50% of my income through gigging at weddings and functions. I must say I enjoy it immensely for many reasons. The crowd is always up for a laugh, and it feels great knowing you are properly entertaining a large crowd. It's great for networking with other musicians also, some of whom are scarily talented! A lot of professional players pay the bills this way. By and large the gigs finish early in NI (11pm or midnight) so you can be home and in bed early with a good wage. I have some truly great memories from gigging on this scene and have met many lifelong friends.
4. There's a band in my locality who play the brass break in Sir Duke completely wrong and it really grinds my gears! Whole sections missing or wrong. The problem there is that the guitar player has taught the other (uninterested) musicians how to play the wrong line. Absolute sacrilege!
5.
Blue, you are doing it again. You are, of course, entitled to disagree with me and I respect your right to do so. However, please stop making absolutist statements rubbishing my opinion. I am not the only person who thinks that the Beatles have been surpassed and you know it. To suggest that I am in the manner in which you did is clearly designed to belittle me in a manner which is both childish and offensive. I am entitled to be treated with the same respect with which I treat you.
+1. I have unfortunately learned to ignore Blue's posts.
6. Paul Simon plays bass on 'You Can Call Me Al' - the part is played on a six string bass and decorates alongside the familiar groove
7. I guess the likelihood of something going wrong with either is exactly the same, given that the QC out in the Far East is usually just as good as in the USA. In fact you might even avoid a notorious 'Friday Afternoon' cab
8. Can he be replaced? Bear in mind a new drummer could potentially bring a lot more to the table than you expect - musically, socially or whatever.
9. Saw Sting & Paul Simon and loved every minute of it despite the ticket cost. In fact I'd have paid that to see each artist individually! Will definitely catch this tour if it comes across t'water
10.
I know what and how the younger generation feels about The Beatles. You can't fool me.
I am 28 and have been listening avidly to the Beatles for years. I could probably busk their entire back catalogue on bass. I find your attitude disparaging and verging on reverse ageism!
11. Pink Floyd - never listened to them on purpose, and never want to!
12. I own the following Squier Classic Vibe 60s Precision (flats) Fender Jazz Bass MIJ (flats) Squier Classic Vibe 60s Jazz (flats) OLP Stingray Copy modded (rounds) Fender MIJ P/J hybrid unlined fretless bass (rounds) Listed in order of how much I use them. Would love to add a 70s styled Jazz bass with rounds, and a 5 string high end bass with humbuckers (Sadowsky, Fodera etc)
13. This is cool!
14. I've seen this done with cars. Not sure it would adhere to forum rules but worth a try in a private context.
15.
Once you switch to flats you'll not want to play rounds again.
True bill
16. Over 50% of bass atrocities can be attributed to Mark King The other half to Jaco!
17. Looks awesome! Where can I find info about your Irish dates? I will def try to come along!
18. Bought from them twice - one large item, one small. Both sent super quickly and with great communications at all points of the process. Highly recommended
19. I have the regular one and it's been great - would definitely buy again.
20. Heaven just got that little bit louder. RIP Lemmy. What a guy!
21. I guess the reason my band doesn't have any interpersonal issues is that we are all pretty laid back, have a collective good sense of humour and don't take ourselves too seriously. We also all have a mutual hatred of our sound technician
22. Motown
23.
I'm very lucky at the moment in that my current band is keen for me to play some lead stuff on bass too - I get to do the odd solo and so forth in addition to doing lots of solid chordal work. I'd like to know that they want me to do more than just plonking root notes
I bet that on the guitar equivalent of Basschat, your scooped friend is complaining about you impinging on his sonic spectrum
24. One of the nicest Warwicks I've ever seen!
25. I would advise approaching him in private instead of criticising in public. This goes for all walks of life.
