1. I prefer smaller vintage frets actually, after having played the Squier Classic Vibe series extensively. Fretting a note (seems) to require less effort. Obviously there is less wear and tear in a smaller fret, so if I were getting a neck made, I would specify stainless steel frets.
2. There's a guy on Facebook getting some great sounds from his Hammersmith basses - check out Remco Hendriks.
3. The Feeling have loads of good modern rock stuff that's catchy. Love It When You Call and Never Be Lonely are belters
4. Drumming far too busy for me, Pino definitely more restrained as a result IMO.
5. In my experience, democracy doesn't work in a band. All the best ones have a dedicated MD, dedicated Manager, booking agent and so on. I love having a place in a band like that actually.
6. Try practicing restraint rather than embellishment. A much more useful skill.
7. Hmm slightly concerning. I had one of these on my Christmas list for home practice with an iPad. Are you using an app e.g. Amplitube?
8.
I have no way of giving you a meaningful answer but I can offer you the chance to hear/try my 3 Barefaced cabs in my signature. I'm in Belfast and gig mainly around Belfast and north Down. Just let me know if you're interested. I have several gigs before Christmas. Frank.
A top offer from a top man!
9. Average White Band - Cut The Cake Aretha Franklin - Ain't Necessarily So
10. Our Pino musn't have been available.
11. Larry Hartke's bass lounge at Sam Ash is a must visit!
12. If I was making a living from playing 4 hour bar gigs, I would be considering my options too. Do you teach bass? If so, do you get paid more for doing a 4 hour bar gig (to include expenses and travel time) than you would for teaching for 4 hours in the comfort of your own home? Granted, it may not be as glamorous, but if it's your sole income it's worth a thought.
13. Yeah Fortress was written about the breakup from his first wife too.
14. Superb songwriter, lyricist, singer and bass player. Sting is one of my favourite people! Love all of his stuff. Saw him for the first time last year with Paul Simon and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. My current favourite tracks (which change every week) are Something The Boy Said and Fortress Around Your Heart. Vinnie just superb on both.
15. Loved the older Kickback 12 combos (non lightweight) Proper tone and great in an orchestra pit where the tiltback feature meant it could run at minimal volume and still sound good!
16. Tried em all and settled on La Bella 760FL. Nice strings
17. My choice for ultra clean would be an EBS 4x10 of some sort!
18. Any love for Bose? Was contemplating investing in a bluetooth set (Soundlink) over ears type.
19. There's a guy in Ireland - think his name is Tony Thompson? Builds basses. Model names include Quadra (4 string) and Quinta (5 string)
20. I use the 410 with a DB751 head, quality thump out of that setup!
21. Lovely! Enjoy
22. Used one of the older (heavier) Kickback 12 amps for years - great piece of kit. Handled pub gigs with ease and the tiltback feature was great for personal monitoring when used with a PA. My cat absolutely destroyed the carpeted finish once however. Do they still have it, or is it vinyl now?
23. Love my Promethean P5110c and 1x10 extension cab. Took me years to find the extension but what a rig for its size!
24. I have to say - living in Northern Ireland, I haven't yet encountered any problems with people willing to post, nor would I be hesitant to courier an item to Britain.
25. Didn't like the Genz Benz Shuttle at all - far too much gain on tap and could never get a clean tone at any sort of volume. Certainly not the worst amp I've ever owned but didn't enjoy it at all.
