  1. Disappointed they have done away with the Hi Mass bridge on these CVs - probably the most useful upgrade a bass could have. I actually retrofitted these bridges to a few of my other basses! Great piece of kit.
  2. Just do what you do and if a drunk punter addresses you as a member of staff, tell them to f’cough
  3. A real pet hate of mine is bands who just throw songs together and busk them without actually ever really learning the nuances. You are 100% right in your observations. I've had to compromise many times by playing progressions that I just know are plain wrong, just because the guitarist hasn't bothered his derrière to learn the right chords. It seems to be more prevalent in 2/3 piece pub acts where most punters only care about roaring the melody after a skinful. I decided a couple of years ago not to accept mediocrity anymore when learning a song with a band and have been vocal when I have needed to be when things are going wrong. Probably hasn't made me any friends but I don't care, it's the most conscientious of musicians who respect an honest approach and those are the ones I would rather gig with anyway.
  4. Great song but not one I would ever consider covering, I guess it would appeal to the 90s generation. In my experience, you could start a set with the Force Theme and people would start to dance
  5. I owned one and didn't like it - the G string got completely lost in any mix. I'm led to believe this is a persistent issue with 'rays and probably part of the reason you see so many used ones for sale. I think there's a way to correctly use the EQ to counter this - isn't the Bass control boost only, but the mid and treble are cut/boost?
  6. Agree with all of your points except the bridge being unimportant. The traditional Fender bridge where the saddles sit atop the base plate is a completely obsolete design IMO. In modern times manufacturers are making bridges where the saddle height screws are fixed into little channels, which is a much better design from an engineering perspective as it reduces the horizontal movement of the saddles and therefore can only benefit string vibration. I have this type of bridge on all my basses,
  7. Superb track although it really doesn’t need those two old chisellers on guitar and drums, they don’t add anything. A nice doff of the cap to their heroes if nothing else.
  8. I owned a TH500 and struggled to get a clean tone at anywhere near gig volume. Tried various cabs including Aguilar and Barefaced. I found myself preferring to use a Bugera Veyron (which I also had at the time) - none of the Drive EQ nonsense and much easier to get a good clean tone. I sold the Aguilar soon after.
  9. That is one of the coolest promo vids for any instrument I've ever seen.
  10. My initial thought is that this is incredible (albeit paid-for) publicity. Bet you his next tour sells well - assuming he can find venues to accept his booking.
  11. I didn’t like the whole ‘each knob has an effect on the other’ thing. Could never get a sound I liked out of it, played through various Barefaced and Aguilar cabs. There was always a horrible gain in the sound when it approached gig volume, even with Drive completely off. On the other hand, my DB751 sounds quite simply superb.
  12. +1000. The show I went to on 1st October of this year was virtually identical to the one I went to on 26th September 2017. I think it's invidious to call the tour 'Wisdom of Crowds' and to expect the audience to be happy with a carbon copy show. The part where Theo etc pretended to be Peckapella 'for (their) first gig ever' made me cringe this time. I would think twice about going to see them live again, particularly at the cost increases by a tenner year on year.
  13. Saw the mighty Vulfpeck on Monday past in Dublin, Joe used his new Sterling for the full show. Sounded like flats indeed but the FOH sound of his bass was poor. Lacked any definition compared to his J tone. Met Theo after and he said that they have a new FOH engineer on this tour, so that could be to blame.
  14. Is your bass set up correctly? I.e. are the pickup heights consistent with distance from the strings?
  15. The disappointing thing about most Stingrays I have played is the uneven output from E string to G string. Going by the Ernie Ball forums, an awful lot of owners suffer from notes on the G string getting lost completely in the mix. This is surely a design/QC fault. You think EB would know better! It's up there with the horrible sharp pickup surround edges on a Rick.
  16. To my mind punch is midrange - I would look at Markbass or Aguilar.
  17. I like the Sennheiser E935 or Shure Beta 58A. I sing backing vocals in most registers including falsetto and find they both have a nice even response from bottom to top.
  18. In Belfast prices are around the £1,800 to £2,000 mark for a 5 piece band, 2 hour live set followed by 2 hours of disco.
  19. Worth every penny. Superb sounding gear.
  20. A great guy who took time to answer some questions I had via email about his equipment during Tull days. I still have the emails in my inbox somewhere. RIP Glenn
  21. This is News?
  22. That guitar riff in Limp Bizkit's Hot Dog tho. Worth the profanity!
  23. Isn't Sting about to release an album with Craig David?
