Strings Recycling Scheme - Strings Direct
TheGreek replied to casapete's topic in General Discussion
I've recently been recycling strings to @Useless amateur who builds project basses for charity. At least I know they are being used for a good cause. Before we open the floodgates of strings to @Useless amateur make sure you contact him first. -
Should I be excited, or vultures circling (eBay content)
TheGreek replied to oldslapper's topic in General Discussion
I don't believe that "everything happens in the last half an hour". I have placed ludicrous lowball bids on items days before and won at bargain prices. I'm also a watcher of things similar to those I own to get an idea of selling prices. -
I've got to say that in all the transactions I have done using both UPS and Parcelforce I have never been let down. I know both of my local drivers for said companies - one I went to school with and the other a big dog fan who was devastated when Shalla died. Other couriers I have less faith in - I'll always use one of the above.
-
Welcome sir...glad to see you're a dog person too... You'll fit in well here...

It does look good...you must be chuffed

Going down a string gauge and nut sizes

Don't see why not....🤔 -
If we're looking at making it more complicated the OP should also look at a GB.

I bought both secondhand. The Shuker could have been just about anything - the ACG was definitely an ACG. Agree with the Overwater being a cut above most other basses. I sold mine and bought it back. Build quality is up there with the very best and Chris and Co are some of the nicest people on the planet - always polite and helpful and will take the time to answer any queries.
-
I've had both - both make excellent instruments - and there are benefits to owning either. Personally I found the Shuker to be quite sterile with little character of it's own where as the ACG are all individuals. I know where I would spend the money if I were in your position.

I can get away with long strings on everything except the longest string - a D on must of my basses.

Cleaning the fretboard when you have tapewound strings?
TheGreek replied to BabyBlueSound's topic in Accessories and Misc
I'm a user of Tapewounds and absolutely love them. I don't suffer with sweaty hands so don't have the same issues but you should hunt down the thread about sweaty hands and cleaning fretboards which was hot a few weeks ago. Lots of good advice. -
Fender, Rotosound and Warwick have entered the Tapewound market with their own brands of strings. I've got all three fitted on basses and TBH all are worth considering for a deeper, warmer tone than you get with normal flatwound strings. Prices from £28 but you may need to shop around.
-
I disagree about them not being of value - I had a fretless - nice bass but weighed the same as two rhinos - first thing I would do in your shoes is consider chambering (removing wood from the body). If you're looking for a new pre-amp have a chat with John East to see what he can put together for you. I would recommend Herrick custom pick ups - he'll make you whatever you want at a really reasonable price. I have the original knobs if you need a set.
