1. It won`t be light, and to be honest you`ll probably never need the 115, but it will sound immense. Plenty of guitarists use a 412 with a valve head and they never moan about the weight - or at least the ones in the bands I share the bill with don't. If you`ve the means of transport and band-members willing to help carry the cab, go for it. If my back wasn`t so bad I`d be pestering for the details of this myself.
2. Boss TU2, just picked up a Korg Pitchblack Mini for times when I have to travel light, and I also have a Planet Waves clip-on tuner, but have found it can sometimes nto be too effective on the E when there is other loud music going on.
3. I can do a Hiscox case, and there is some candy available
4. We rehearse at the same volume as we gig, which is to the volume of unamplified drums. That`s what we`ll hear on stage and any further volume to hear our own instruments will come from the monitors. No need to ever be louder than the drums imo.
5. Nice one, I have one of these on the way and am eagerly looking forward to getting my paws on it. I`ve heard a good few of these and have always liked the tone, agree, raw and punchy. The one I`m getting has had a replacement pickup put in it, but I already have another pup that I intend to replace that with.
6.
I prefer the post 2012 Am.Std Precision's, & am still glad I managed to get my 2014 Am.Std .
Same here (well 2015 for me). If these new basses are better, imo that means they`ll be amazing instruments. As such I`m not gonna take the chance on even touching one, as I know me, I`ll end up buying one.
7. I prefer to have no instruments in the monitors, with all the sound of the bass from an amp behind me, but have gigged amp-less before with only a DI to FOH and it was fine. I could probably do it without being able to hear myself at all, but I suppose it`s more down to monitoring for the drummer, if they need the bass or not.
8.
January is always a slow month for venues
Yep, in my old punk covers band we avoided January gigs like the plague. Sad, pissed off punters (not because of us, of course) nursing their one half of bitter that will have to last them the whole night night dreaming of the last working day of the month (which seems like it will never turn up) when they will finally get paid and will have some money again, after a heavy Xmas/New Year spend.
9. Providing there`s room I always take a spare along. In fact I`ve got a bass on the way to fill that position as I don`t like taking two expensive basses out with me, so the incoming is a Squier which will be perfectly good as a backup.
10. The old Linebackers, I had one of those in the late 80s/early 90s.
11. Cracking cabs, I`ve got one and these really are a one-cab does all. Great price too.
12. Given the variety of music you do I`d look for something as clean/flat/uncoloured as possible, seeing as the OTB doesn`t have the most flexible of eqs. So avoid anything with a really coloured sound, or any cabs that have a fair bit of high-end roll-off, such as Markbass. The Ashdown 112s in the Rootmaster range look to be quite good.
13. The AG is a fairly mid-forward amp so I`d look at dropping some of the high mids in the Contour and maybe a touch off of the regular mids. Adding in the Deep but cutting a bit of Bass could help too as imo (I have the AG500 as well) the 40Hz is too low, so cutting eliminates boom.
14. A fair few people mention that they can see some major punk influences in my style/sound, JJ Burnell, Bruce Foxton to name the most often mentioned. I take it as a compliment as I see those two especially as being right up there in the music that I play.
Possibly some Aguilar pick ups but these are fine.
I`ve a Precision on way with an Aguilar AG4P-60 in it that I`m planning on taking out/offloading, if interested.
16. Office parties, the worst kind of drunks that there are, two sweet sherries and they think they`re George Best and Oliver Reed rolled into one.
17. ITEM NOW SOLD One 2015 USA Jazz Bass in the coolest colour scheme there is, black black maple. We all know how good these basses are, and this is a particularly good example. It`s in pretty much new condition, any marks in the photos are a result of my crap photo-taking and not getting the lighting right. I took this in a trade to help another Basschatter out, and have always had the intentions of moving it on as I`m just not a Jazz player. Collection preferred, and no trades thanks. Am located in Hemel Hempstead, which is J8 on the M1, 20 miles north of London.
18. Regular gigs at £210 as oppose to occaisonal gigs at £350 might be something to consider. If most of the venues won`t cough higher than £210 then you severely limit your gigs if you won`t play for that.
19. That`s exactly what I do - saves all the headache of trying to get your sound from a variety of different amps. Luckily for me a Sansamp BDDI does what I need, and I`m not that fussed about the on-stage sound as long as I can hear it, FOH is where it`s at.
20. I`d go for the VM Precision PJ - I`m yet to read anything bad about the VM Series, and why not have the flexibility of adding in the J pickup to give some "bite". Duff McKagans sound wouldn`t be the same without the J pickup.
21. I try and move a bit but as I have a bad back, and because of that, bad mobility, it`s nothing much. Feels like I`m doing a marathon when doing it, but looking at videos it resembles me as being just past the standing absolutely still stage.
22. They won`t sell, they`re both round the wrong way...................
23. The article also says it took more than a decade for Ronnie Wood to become an official Stone.
