You’ve played the Squier and liked it, rather than chance the Gretsch I’d go with the certainty of the Squier.

We also used to do that in our old punk covers band and similarly it always went down well. We were called The Daves so obviously changed one line to incorporate The Davey Boys.

That’s the way we approached it, it was a gig, same as any other, albeit with a great stage to play on and a very big audience.

I had an Orange Terror paired - very briefly - with a 210AV cab and it sounded really nice. My only reservation would be make sure you use your ears carefully as the power of the OTB is pretty huge, if not used with care you may damage the cabs.

Vintage are a real hidden gem amongst the many brands out there, imo. I have a Tony Butler V4 and have the same opinion, there’s not a grands worth of difference between that and my US Fenders in terms of quality.

No DI, I’ll stick with my Para Driver. It’s too much of a lottery on the shared/provided rigs scene to hope that the sound guys have a DI box -and I’m not buying one to carry around as a just in case. Shame, would have liked to try it but it’s not like I’m missing anything with my Para Driver, best pedal I’ve ever had.

Wowzers, that would have been a great gig. The guy they got was one of their crew/techs, Ritchie I think his name was. Went on to be the singer/bassist in The Stone Gods with Dan and Ed from The Darkness.

Congrats, and welcome to the forum. ABM cabs are great imo, and on bigger stages lose none of the sound quality, that punch you mention just stays there, solid as a rock. It’s always nice to have gear that will perform no matter what stage you play, and your set up certainly fits the bill in my opinion.

There’s a lot of sense in that, could be why so many of the pro bands I see use MIM Fenders, Epiphones etc.

My thoughts: Was very surprised at the lack of Fender in the programme. Already thought Bernard Edwards was a genius but seeing the clips of him playing blew me away. Likewise Paul McCartney, seems he chose the most difficult songs on bass to sing over. Given that one of the major playing styles of the bass is slap I’m surprised there wasn’t at least a bit of RHCP/Flea in it.

Imo on a big stage, in the mix, they’re the daddy, simply cannot be best. But in a rehearsal room, or played solo I find them a bit meh. And carrying a flightcased SVT head and 810 is something I never want to have to assist with again.

It looks a bit sorry for itself but I’ve seen these go for between £300 & £500. At £70 has to be worth a punt.

In our old punk covers band we often got asked to play Kings of Leon. Singer just used to tell whoever asked to eff off. He’s one of those cheeky types that can somehow manage to do that and the other person still likes him. Takes talent, that.

I doubt I’ll be able to make it, we’re releasing our 4th album in Aug, so pretty much every Aug/Sep weekend will be gigging to promote it.

I think if I were looking at 2 basses to have maximum flexibility it would be a five string Precision and a five string HH Stingray. Precision, well that covers that sound, and the flexibility of a dual humbucker Stingray pretty much covers most others. Nearly went for a Jazz in my choice but think the Ray edges it.

You can learn to stretch further, the difference in spread from tip of thumb to tip of little finger in my fretting hand compared to my other hand is about an inch and a half, possibly two inches. But that’s taken place over years of playing and practicing using my little finger to fret notes, it’s nit happened overnight.
