  1. Pretty much nails it for me too. We`re a 3-piece, both the other guys are my mates.
  2. I`ve a set of Precision ones that I`m not using - if interested PM me.
  3. I have a list of serial numbers but think that`s a good idea, photos and serial numbers.
  4. Looks great, Si.
  5. Think it’s a good idea, mainly for flying gigs where the bass currently has to go in the hold as the case is too big for the cabin but where they’ll let guitars on no probs.
  6. Ok, just bought a new amp! But in fairness it’s the newer, lighter version of my Ashdown RM500. Looking at it I’ve bought a new amp and a new pedal, but both are newer versions of the ones I had, and both old ones are going to be in their way. So I don’t see this as adding to the fold, just updating, which makes me feel better.

They do feel and play really nice, but do think the price is more than their worth. But then I also think that about the US Standards, which are my fave btw, I’d say they should be marked at a grand, not £1500/£1600, I don’t think there’s a thousand pounds worth of difference between them and the Mex basses.
  8. That’s exactly the way I use my Para Driver, it makes gigging life so easy.
  9. I must admit I’ve never really understood the Pledge thing anyway, it doesn’t cost that much to record an album and release it - as the sales come in you recoup your money pretty quickly.
  10. They`re meant to sound better when stacked vertically but I just look at that as an accident waiting to happen, be it with clumsy punters or clumsy bandmates. Horizontally would cause me less stress at a gig for sure.
  11. Very likely I’d say
  12. No, from what I understand then each cab will get the same amount of power, so effectively each cone in the 210 will get double what those in the 410 get. That’s not to say it can’t be done though, both my 210 & 410 are 8ohns but I don’t put too many lows through them, nor have them too loud. If anything adding in the 210 is more for show than anything.
  13. I’d say so, yes, but look at it as an achievement rather than negatively 😁
  14. For me it was The Sex Pistols, as an 11 year old their sound was like something I`d not heard before, at that point I knew what type of music I wanted to make when I got older, and that`s what I did once I turned 15 and got a bass. Started a band, playing punk songs, wearing DMs and Fred Perrys. And at 53 not a lot has changed, pretty much zero development. Which is nice.
  15. I’m pretty sure that @stewblacks post is spot on to the reasons why I’ve never bought an SVT as am sure I’d find most amps afterwards, well not quite so good, shall we say. Ive used them in the past at gigs and really like how solid and big the sound is. The only other amps that have slammed like that have been Ashdown ABMs, so I went that route - well I can lift those, after all.
  16. Totally agree, seemed odd to me that people who support a music that essentially was an “up yours” to everyone would be so sensitive at having the pee taken out of them.
  17. That’s an era I would like to have been around in. I was 11 when punk came in, but would have loved to have been able to be in the pubs watching those bands, especially Dr Feelgood.
  18. I think, to answer the original question asked, punk has had a lasting influence. In many different bands you can hear punk influences - and also via those trace them back to original 50s rock n roll imo. There are punk songs now used in adverts, McDonalds has similar artwork styles to that of what came out of punk. Would David Beckham have had a good few of his haircuts and outfits if not for punk. I’m not saying it changed the world, just that you can see its influences today, 40 plus years on.
  19. I already loved music and knew I wanted to be a musician, punk gave me my direction.
  20. Irrespective of the so-called politics and shock factor, listen to some of the early punk bands, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Blondie. The Jam etc, and you simply have great 3 minute pop songs. Punk is still around today, it`s a nice little scene, with gigs going on all over the place, and loads of new great bands coming through. Yes there are the shouty brigade, but there`s much more than just that. Regrettably it seems punk is more associated with studded leather jackets and mohawks with shouted lyrics than how it started.
  21. Aside from my punk sensibilities, with anything aside from 4 strings being the spawn of Satan, this is why I’ve never gone down the 5 string route. I just don’t need one for the music I play. I could actually get away with a 3 string if honest, and at a push maybe a 2!
  22. I walked out but that’s coz I thought they were pony. Was quite disappointed as, even with his having to be the big man and showing everyone he was boss, I’d been quite looking forward to seeing them.
  23. Strangely this doesn’t surprise me at all, as I’d always suspected that BG was far less admirable than he’d like us to believe.
  24. From the description guy no 2 - the recording isn`t going to lie, sounds like he fitted very well. Maybe his hard-hitting made everyones attack on their instruments that little bit sharper/harder, hence the nice balanced sound. Plus his experience is a big factor.
