  1. Given spec required and the mention of Trace I’d take a look at the Ashdown ABM600 EVO4. Much more versatile and powerful than the previous ABMs.
  2. The old bassist of one of my fave bands, Booze & Glory used to use an Orange amp combined with a Sansamp, sounded great combining the warmth & depth of the Orange sound with the sharpness of the Sansamp.
  3. Looks great
  4. What is this illogicality that I am reading….
  5. It all depends on the band I’m in. In the last one we were a 3 piece originals street punk band, so my bass was trebly, gnarly, with break-up/gain, acting as bass and a bit like rhythm guitar, a la Lemmy, keeping the drive going. My current band is a classic rock band with guitar and keys so I do the Fender/Ampeg thing having a sound that locks with the drums and keeps out of the way of the guitar & keys. To me it’s all about the band and what it requires.
  6. I don’t get on with Stingrays, I don’t have £1700 going spare But hot-dang I want this!!!!
  7. If it’s the Rootmaster 115 combo you’re looking at if you find you like its’ sound then look to get one of the RM115 cabs and double up
  8. Quality research done there by Procter & Gamble on what image to use…..
  9. How does it compare in the “heft” stakes?
  10. Yes, imo a good addition on a Jazz as gives the option of making it a beefier sound, in a bit like Precision territory.
  11. Up until last year I was a high action hit hard kind of guy, but decided to modify my playing to lower action play gentler and much prefer it, I just seem to enjoy playing much more like this.
  12. I’d blame Dr Who, time travel has to be a factor in this one
  13. I wouldn’t let them take the easy option of blaming current events, I had a few issues with them a few years before the B & C words.
  14. Forgot the Drop Ds, thanks for reminder
  15. For US Fender Precisions & Jazzes KiOgon loom Fender Custom Shop 62 Pickups Fender Stealth A String Retainer Hipshot Drop D Extender For non US Fender Precisions & Jazzes KiOgon loom Fender Custom Shop 62 or Tonerider Pickups Gotoh 201B bridge Hipshot 3-way String Retainer
  16. That’s my choice, they suit my voice better than an SM58 as not quite as “middy”. Ideal, they sound good and are cheap as chips so not a disaster if they get damaged.
  17. Similar for me, I found that Ashdown cabs gave me the coloured sound I was after, in conjunction with my trusty Tech21 Para Driver.
  18. I’d say for anyone intending on playing in a band with drums have 300 available watts on hand into either a 1x12 or 2x10. You might not need all of that but better to not be pushing an amp as they can sound a bit rotten if pushed beyond capabilities.
  19. I’d take a look at the Vintage brand, their basses are much better than the price tags would suggest. I used to read up from pro players who said “I used to play so-and-so brand but now only play my Vintage” and think it was a paid marketing ploy. I then bought one of their Tony Butler Precisions as a backup and found it was the nearest bass in sound and feel I could get to my US Fender. From an instrument that’s a fifth of the price.
  20. Nice one, glad I could help
  21. Having had Ampeg PF500, Ashdown RM500 and Orange Bass Terror 500 I’d put them in that order for volume. That said who knows if that’s because the pots are set up to look that way, I know Ashdown set theirs so the volume increases all the way round (so not cheating) to the end. Who knows about the others but out of the three the PF500 although not quiet just didn’t seem “loud” even when it was sitting perfectly in the mix at the right volume, but then that’s an Ampeg thing imo, sitting perfectly in the mix with a Precision.
  22. Bassdirect are currently showing that gauge in stock Danny, or at least they’re not marked up Out of Stock like most of the other gauges. From what I’ve read they’re now going to be back sending them out which is great as my preferred gauge is 45-100 and not been able to get them all this year.
  23. Good point Stew, when the younglings at work talk about R&B I tell them I liked that in my youth and play them some Dr Feelgood - you should see their faces 🤣
  24. I’ve gone for yes they were, based upon what they were doing at the time when they were doing it. Of course now we all say they were classic rock but did that label exist at the time when they were doing Smoke on The Water?
