Time for amp shopping he says……, Well spoiled for choice methinks, but imo the following all work really well with a Precision: Fender Rumble, Ampeg, Ashdown, Markbass All will do a fantastic job, I’d pick Ashdown due to not only being excellent amps, sound great & super reliable, but both being UK based and their customer service being amongst the best around.

I’ve had basses with things like that, the first time it bothered me for a while but as it didn’t affect playability or sound I learned to live with it. Since then I just put it down as one of those things that in a perfect world wouldn’t happen, but as the world is far from perfect then so what.

REM at The BBC on BBC4 at the moment, had forgotten many of the songs but am really enjoying this.

I wouldn’t say wound up specifically, I just like idea of having a set list & sticking to it, only doing extra when called for. If a band has 12 songs on their set list and fully intends to do all 12 songs why pretend the last 2 are an encore, to me have the courage to just do 10 and if called back then do the other 2, if not then leave it there. A band can learn from this, more from when they don’t get those calls than from when they do, and a good band will put into practice what they learn from it and get better.

I must admit I’ve always like the idea of writing in an encore on the set list but only playing it if the audience ask for it, if they don’t then don’t play it. I think bands should have both the confidence and self awareness to only do encores when it’s clear the audience want them.

The Jazz in the clip sounds great, as does the Ampeg B15 tone. I must admit I’m getting more into just getting some drive/gain on my bass without changing the sound of it, this pedal, expensive as it may be looks like a great way to do that, and with the filters good levels of control.

Great tip chaps, will adopt this on my amps & basses

Thats the same for me this Thu, Nick, am on call so travelling light in case I need to make a quick getaway. After years of setting up preamp pedal, tuner, leads, DI cable it seems like a luxury.

My old band played there, we’d heard horror stories of how the locals treated the bands but we went down fine. Probably helped that we had as many of our mates with us as there were locals in the pub, bullies don’t often go for equal opportunities.

I know he mimed - or at least used to - on True, he says so in his book, as it was a synth bassline. Fair play to him, he’s not miming cos he couldn’t play it, but keeping “ahem” true to the sound of the recording.

In my last band I used to use a Tech21 Para Driver for my eq & gain, whereas in my current band I just use my amp and I do prefer it that way. I had a very specific sound for my last band though, whereas I’m now much more generic Precision sound.

In my first “real” band I was def the weakest member. But not for long. I wouldn’t say I overtook anyone but I soon caught up. Was a good learning experience, and I’d recommend it to anyone, it soon pushes your limits further than you thought and makes you more proficient on your instrument of choice.
