  1. Holy low end Robin, pass me the Bat-bass
  2. Very true Chris, last night at band practice I cut at 40Hz and the result was my Precision supported nicely with a good strong presence but no low-end boom/sludge.
  3. The opposite for me, as I’d just joined a band doing much more difficult songs than I was previously used to just before COVID began I kept up practicing them and have improved big time over the last 18 months. Which is nice.
  4. It’s strange but I’ve recently realised that I’m not keen on cabs that go too low in frequency as they seem to separate the bass from the rest of the instruments rather than placing it with them. Re the larger cabs, one of the best cabs I ever had was a Marshall VBC412, obviously big, 100lbs+ but oh, the sound, didn’t need to add much in the way of low end on the amp, it was just solid and beefy.
  5. Looks great and Yammy BBs are great basses, congrats
  6. Yup 👍
  7. I heard the new songs earlier and to me they sound like they could have fitted in with the material from back in the day, which is a compliment btw, great band, great songs.
  8. Might be worth checking out Ashdown ABM600 Steve. Not all valve but a very nice warm sound when the valve is engaged and designed so it can be fixed/maintained at Ashdown HQ in Essex. Very flexible eq, bags of power, and at 13kg a lot easier on the back than all-valve.
  9. I’ve just got one for a backup Precision I’ve just bought so the residing Quarterpounder will be on its way soon, Toneriders are great, sound very much like the Fender Custom Shop 62s but at a fraction of the price.
  10. You’ll be a majority shareholder soon
  11. Yeah, in my punk band, admittedly using a Sansamp as well, my gain was at 2 o’clock, rare I ever needed to go past 9 o’clock on volume and that was on the RM500 into one of the same cabs. At the settings described above I think even Lemmy would have got earache.
  12. I felt that with my Big Twin II, although my sound was very trebly/twangy/aggressive the low end on the E string seemed to boom a bit. Any reduction in low end and the rest of the strings sounded like elastic bands and lowering the pickup under the E just meant it was then much quieter than the other strings. To be fair I have to say that was the only BF cab I had that issue with, and have had a fair few over the years. Some cabs just don’t seem to suit what you’re doing as much as others.
  13. That was def a tale that rang true for me too, for some reason rather than just buy a Precision I chased the sound with many others only to be dissatisfied all the time. Daft thing is over that period I spent more than a Precision would have cost. In fact my first “real” bass, a Yamaha BB1100s was £450 and at the time a US Precision was £325, but out of stock. Impatient me couldn’t wait, had to have a bass now!
  14. That’s why it’s good gigging there, the applause is louder
  15. And hopefully they will. I had a bass stolen years ago, it was only a cheap one with no sentimental value but I was fuming.
  16. As I’m going to see Buckcherry in November I’ve been listening to their last two albums a fair bit recently, Hellbound of 2021 & Warpaint of 2019.
  17. I’m the same, if someone tells me a bass is 9.5lbs I know how that bass is going to feel for a 3hr practice, but if someone said another bass is 4kg I’d have to convert to lbs. And not just re basses, someone who is 6ft tall and 11 stone I know is going to be rather slim. Tell me they’re 70 or 80kg and I’ve no idea. Similarly tell me a chap is 1.75metres tall, no clues, but 6ft1, a tad taller than me. For anyone thinking I’ve done the math wrong, I’ve just made up numbers.
  18. It’s unlikely that I’ll come across it but if I do getting it back to its rightful owner will be reward enough.
  19. My suggestion would have been the Markbass CMD121P & NY121 - smaller footprint, quite tall and 500 watts but unlikely to get that within budget. There’s not much on the market with a smaller footprint than Barefaced that is very loud and good on the wallet.
  20. Good call Mark, may be worth trying it with the 410 on its own
  21. Hi Phil First off welcome to the forum. Secondly I’d get the amp checked out by Orange before looking at new amps. Having had a Terror and a Nemesis 410 myself both are extremely loud and capable of handling far more than your ears (or anyone else’s) can. Unless your eq is entirely low-end and driven those cabs should easily take all the Terror sends their way, shouldn’t cut out at all.
  22. Nice one, I’ve done a few gigs where the sound engineer has worked with the same theory, always seemed a bit odd but if it works it works. Sounds like the Mesa was a worthy purchase.
  23. Prompted by listening to the radio at work Sound of The Underground - Girls Aloud
  24. Ive seen punk/Oi bands gig the Rumble 210 combos and on soundcheck they kept up with the (at that point unamplified) drums with no problems. So can’t see why the head & 210 cab wouldn’t be able to do the same.
  25. I find that if I’m enjoying my tone whilst practicing I enjoy practicing more, maybe you’ve now entered that (costly) phase?
