  2. So I recently bought some Schaller S-Locks for my bass and noticed that the screws for them were quite thick. Paying no attention to this at all, I took out the original screws on my bass and put in the Schaller S-Locks with no problem. It wasn't until after I installed the S-Locks that I did some research online and found that forcing in thicker screws can cause the finish to crack and chip. I would like to mention that when installing the new S-Locks, the finish of my bass did not chip or crack, but now I'm scared that it will over time. What should I do? Should I go to a luthier and have them check the problem out? Do I need to worry at all?

  4. I’ve never been a fan of black guitars either. However, respraying can be a disaster. If this is your first bass, leave it alone. If it doesn’t work out for you a black one is very easy to sell because most people like them, probably the most popular colour ever. I’ve nothing against Affinity models but check the neck isn’t a banana, I have seen some horrors.
  5. Andy Powers, the man who has revolutionised Taylor Guitars (you have to try a V class) has come up with a range of Electric Guitars with a somewhat retro shape, but with a semi hollow body. A bit pricy, but not compared to Taylor’s. I just a, not sure about the overall look. It might make a nice Jag-ish type bass if he could be so persuaded.
  6. Now that these have been out in the wild for a while, has anyone got experience with them in a live environment? I'm wondering if they have inherited the reliability and QC issues from the old Portaflex and SVT-7 heads. Basically, I'd love to buy one - the Ampeg tone is peerless to my ears, but, as someone who's owned both a PF-800 and an SVT-7 before and had them both crap out on me at gigs, I'm cautious and maybe a bit sceptical. I've heard that since Yamaha bought Ampeg, things have got a lot better, but I'd like to hear some first-hand experience. I've heard a couple of scare stories, like the V12 being unusually quiet for something with so much power. Anyone?

  8. Cheers Stew, it’s a cracking amp. I’ve been slowly reducing my kit since leaving my band, but didn’t have any interest on here for it. Sold my main GK stuff on Marketplace, at what I thought were very reasonable prices. Thought I’d try and buck the trend with this one. 🤞
  9. Open to sensible offers and postage is possible!
  10. Well after last Friday's pub gig when @ratman did an excellent job depping for me, and both he and the guitarist used backline, our vocalist has decided that the vocals sound better through the RCF732A PA without bass and guitar competing and that it was pretty straightforward to get a decently balanced mix. So I'm going to let the main line-up have their wish and revert to using backline, without FoH support, which will undoubtedly be a more enjoyable gigging experience for us individually and if it turns out not to be, then I guess Alex will find himself doing more dep gigs 😂
  11. Ha Ha... modding in the mind already! - way to go!... or change the scratchplate for a tenner...
  12. What are you asking for the amp….. I’m confused…
  13. I'm in Consett, Co. Durham. The rumble 25 seems more than £25 - £30 used, nearer £60-£70 for the V3. As long as it checks out ok I think I'm gonna buy it. Not too keen on the colour though. It's black and white, not keen on anything black and white.....might strip it down and respray it. On second thoughts, I like the black pickguard on yours....might be easier to just change the pick guard.
  14. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1704596547036073/ Bargain, grab it!

  17. Squier Affinity P... £80-£100, 25 Rumble whatever version has got to be £25-30 all day long.... I'd try £100 the pair! Ha! Nowt wrong with an affinity P! Id say 'Go For It' Where abouts are you?
  18. I’m also more of a rosewood/ebony guy but maple with blocks is acceptable. Haven’t had a proper play as yet as I need to set it up - the action needs lowering a fair bit for me so it’ll be the weekend. My MW Mustang sig has served the ‘Glam sparkle’ function for the last few years; I was was going to keep it but it’s having to go on orders from above 🤣
  19. Been away, doing stuff. Big life changes, got uninspired, left the instruments in a cupboard. And then i remembered i'm a frikin' bass player baby! Ging 5 strings a go, i blame Nightwish!
  20. Back.... Been away. Need some inspiration to lay down that boogie or i may just d*e...

    Alembic

Hit me with your... by Ian Dury: what's the bass in the video, an Alembic, maybe?
  22. We don't do the little dance thing - you get the breathalyzer and if you fail that, you are going to get a free visit to the police station!
  23. Balls. would love it. selling basses but nothing forthcoming 😔
  24. Indeed it is, 80% of drivers are above average, I am guessing at least 90% on this forum have above average taste
  25. I’ve twin Atlantic next week. and somehow missed that Tool are playing at the end of the month. Managed to get tickets as they’re on my “list of bands to see before I die” not hugely looking forward to the drive down though…
  26. I’ve bought all my Tech21 stuff from US sellers in the past, and most of them ended up devaluing the package to avoid import fees... I work for a US company now though so would probably just get something sent to a colleague’s house and get it from them next time we meet up! It is a lot of money for a pedal, but looking at it in a relative way, it’s half the cost of the dUg amp (which is one of these with a power amp) and twice the cost of a regular Sansamp (and it has double the knobs/jacks/etc. If I can sell my BDDI and DP-3X and get the same tones + more out of this, I may be interested.
  27. I still have the 5 string Musicman-style thing built for me by the Bass Doc in Newcastle around 1996-97. Lovely Wenge Fingerboard and a Bart pickup.
