Bass --> FoH with no backline. What preamp pedal are you using?

This might be useful. Many differing price points etc… -
Another thumbs-up for one of KiOgon's solderless looms/control plates. The details are here: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/334251-bass-wiring-looms-for-sale/ You get your order in by sending him a private message: https://www.basschat.co.uk/messenger/compose/?to=7835. Particularly if your bass is not a standard Fender, chat everything through with him as he can accommodate different hole sizes or locations. I once posted him a non-standard control plate which had unusual hole sizes, and he drilled them out to the correct size and sent it back with the new loom installed.

A good workhorse ideal for a rehearsal room or for small gigs.

Looks like a home constructed cab fitted with 4 8" big cat speakers (believed to be made for Maplin by Eminence). 8 ohms impedance and probably rated at 100 to 200W. In good condition with heavy duty plastic corners and folding handles on the side. Not particularly heavy for such a big cab. Single TS jack on the back. I'm open to offers.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Here's what I have done, the cable I've been using for years is a KLOTZ 4mm² 1m cable with Neutrik Speakon connectors, I also had an identical one but was three metres in length which is far too long to connect my head that sits on top of my cabs, so what I have done is cut it down to the size I need, and re-fitted one of the connectors to the blank end. So after reading all the great advice, I now know that a 4mm cable is probably overkill, but at least I know that I have two quality cables that will probably last a lifetime.😉

For electric bass my main board is built around a Stomp. But I also have a Tonex as a smaller, more portable option. If I'm out playing my Fender Kingman acoustic bass I use a Laney Digbeth pedal. I also still have an MS60B which I still rate highly. And in the back of my van I have a Valeton Dapper that I picked up used & cheap here as an emergency back up for me or any band I'm doing sound for. I actually got to use it last year when I left my Stomp pedal board in the back of somebody elses car (yes, stupid mistake lol, but it was dark, late & we were tired & rushing!), and although I don't like the FX on it, it has a DI & tuner and it got me through the gig. -
What foot do you use to control your effects?

Secret option F - both feet as I play sat down 😄 -
I spent several years from the early noughties until about 5yrs ago playing on the UK Americana circuit. We did 4 albums, got on prime time CBS TV in the USA and did a few UK tours and festivals. There was definitely a scene but I thought it kind of fizzled out. Looking at Basschat over the last couple of days, it seems much like everything else, like it might be coming back. I enjoyed it at the time but I think having done it for so long in a really good band, it's something that I have a passing curiosity in, rather than wanting to return to it. Definitely loads of fun and I would recommend it to anyone.

I'm having a rethink of my amp set up to suit my current needs. New band etc... First up is my excellent TD650 amp. This is my main amp and I'm not really 100% about selling it but basically I don't really need such big gear now. It's in great condition and comes with its Gator 3U gig bag. Secondly my Proline 1x15 (400w 4Ohm) cab. Very tidy condition. No tweeter in this, just big bassey thump. Works great with one of the 2x10s. Collection or meet only (within reasonable distance). Located in St Helens Merseyside and happy doing a 100 mile round trip if you bung us a few fuel tokens! Priced to sell @ TD650 - £350 Collected HD350 - £250. Now sold 2x10 NeoLine £275 Now sold 1x15 Proline £140 Collected

You're a braver man than me mate. After a few 'platform related wobbles' early on with our Glam band (Meniere's can be a bitch) I decided to go with Silver and Sequin adorned Converse.....

I saw an ad recently looking for someone to join an outfit specialising in Appalachian Murder Ballads. Am I safe in saying I think that's an Americana sub-genre?

It's basically intended to be country as country used to be without all the glitz, glamour, homogeneity and mediocrity that's been associated with "mainstream" country for decades. I'm using "country" as a catch-all term including bluegrass and other American folk genres or sub-genres, but if you swap it out for "Americana" then that's where we're at.
