  2. Today a friend and I have had an attempt to replace the broken preamp in my Sire V7 with a Sadowsky drop-in replacement. all of the soldering seems to have gone OK, including the trickier than expected task of attaching the pickup ground wires to the back of the blend pot (not as easy as various videos would have you believe!). Before finishing everything we decided it would be prudent to test everything. So we booked up my little Vox headphone amp and plugged it in. I'm passive mode it works fine, the volume and pickup blends knobs all work, which is a relief given house long we had to leave the soldering iron on the pot to get it hot enough for the solder to stick. But when we engage the preamp, nothing, not a dicky bird. We've checked the soldered connections on the spliced battery harness which all appear to be fine, and used a fresh battery, but still nothing. I've messaged a local tech to get their advice and maybe book it in, but other than the connections on the battery harness not being as sound as we think they are, or possibly the preamp module being borked, does anyone have any possible suggestions for what night be the issue?
  3. I think my point was that many musicians would just love a large collection of instruments, but few can afford it.
  4. “Well I am 77 years old” 🙄🤫There are a few of us left 😎
  5. He can afford an orchestra of his own because he hasn't spent anything on a Strad..!
  6. Very experienced, most styles. Currently playing in a gigging rock / blues band but ready for a change. Mid Sussex, Brighton, Crawley area.
  7. Price included postage within the UK…. The heart of the Golden Ratio is a vintage Clone Theory circuit. We have added back the edge switch that was originally on the pedal which brings some of the high end bite back into the signal. Along with this we have the vibro-flange switch to run the pedal in flanger mode or in vibrato/chorus mode. The Vibe/Chorus control is only active when the flange switch is in the vibe/chorus mode. It blends from 100% vibrato to 100% chorus. The rate and depth controls are the usual controls for the LFO in any chorus pedal. A great deal of time and effort has been spent on the PCB layout and the power section in order to minimize the noise that BBD-based analog chorus pedals are notorious for. This pedal faithfully recreates the tone of the original clone theory. Bassists who are chasing after the Peter Hook tone need this pedal along with our Transmission Bass Preamp to get his tone. Each pedal uses a professionally assembled PCB and is proudly assembled by hand in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
  8. Well, I know a bit about classical music, and I also know about André Rieu. I was commenting on him having a loaner Strad and not buying one, and seeing as his annual tours gross $50M, and he can afford an orchestra of his own, I'd think a Strad would be pocket change to him.
  9. Honestly never known either of those things to be true, but I guess different circles.
  10. Tried the amp in the studio and I'm 100% certain it's a mains hum. The amp sounds immense and the hum is totally manageable so I'm keeping it.
  11. After failing in the gear abstinence thread, I went in completely the opposite direction. A Behringer XR18, a Helix LT, and now a Behringer RD-8 Mk II. This was another one that first impressions were how big it was - I was expecting something on the scale of the Korg Volca series, instead it's almost as big as the Helix LT. I haven't started using it yet so further news will have to wait.
  12. Here's a few links to help your research! The Pedal: https://www.withbassinmind.com/the-pedal The Promo Video: And here's a short video of my playing a Jaco solo - There's nothing in the signal path other than the Sushi Pedal. If you'd like to know anything else - please feel free to pop by my Facebook, or Instagram pages and drop me a direct line! My very best, thanks for reading! Philip
  13. André Rieu classical? In much the same way as the Carpenters are Death Metal! 😁 Extreme Easy Listening at best, though it's only easy to listen to if you like the slimiest of cheese 🧀😜
  14. Hi Jonse! This is lovely to see - thank you so much for the mention on Basschat - I'm afraid I don't get on here much, so would love this opportunity to tell you about the unit. Firstly, I agree a little with Walshy, I also had the original unit and wasn't completely knocked out by it, so I contact Nathan Slade and we gave it a little polish! The With Bass In Mind edition updates the original unit in a number of ways, but the main refinement is an alteration in the valve which is fitted. I'm not a lover of 12AUX preamp valves, their a little harsh and over saturated for my liking, so the WBiM Edition is fitted is a 12AU7, which is far smoother, and provides less saturation, a subtle difference, but changes the pedals characteristics massively - think more Fender Bassman, than Ampeg. The idea of the unit is relatively straight forward, a small footprint DI box which runs on a 9v power supply which sits at the end of your pedal board. It's able to enrich your signal with warm valve tone and supply natural compression - it also acts as a signal splitter (XLR and 1/4'). I spent 90% of my time on IEM these days, so it's perfect. It's also great in the studio and also for supplying tube tonality to Class D amplification. Think less of it as a distortion box (which I've seen written), and more as a valve DI. A number of my With Bass In Mind students have now taken delivery - they're selling like hot cakes. As soon as I'm off this running run of performances with The Drifters, I'll be uploading a few demos.

    NPD: Helix LT

I thought I'd replace my Stomp with a full fat Helix. Thought I'd got a good deal on a Floor but it got cancelled (I missed his messages which was to say that the funds wouldn't be released until after he'd gone on a tour that he was selling the Floor to buy an amp for, otherwise I'd have bought it by another means) so concluded that I didn't need the four send/returns or the scribble strips so an LT would do. So it arrived, and the first impression was that it was very big. Second impression too. It does mean I no longer need my six-button MIDI controller or external power supply though. I tried restoring my saved patches from the Stomp, and much to my delight that worked. So now I'm going to do some more experimenting and try an organ synth in a send/return loop.
  16. Willing to listen to decent offers 👍🏼

  18. Greg's just Greg. Guy King is always on the money. I like that bass players left hand technique, effective and economical. All the right notes in all the the right places and not an ounce of energy wasted.

    Quent

Very happy to be the first to post feedback for Quent. He bought a Cort A5 from me and was great to deal with. Many thanks and I hope you enjoy playing it.
  20. Ahh ok. If may sound an understatement but Fenders are underrated!
  21. Hey Luke, I'm a fan of Overwater basses for sure, but I'm sorted in the 5 string Jazz department, cheers though!
